Grace and peace to you, people of Zion and Salem.

I am so excited to begin serving as your pastor. It has been a

long journey of studying, praying, and discerning for all of us,

but now we are ready to begin this time together.

And how joyous to be in this time of beginning so close to the

beginning of the church year! To be together for the seasons of

Christmas into Epiphany is a delight. A time when our liturgi-

cal calendar invites us to pay close attention to God’s work in

our midst. The word “epiphany” comes from a Greek word

meaning “revelation.” It points us to the revelation of God with

us, Immanuel. For me, it is so much easier to pay close atten-

tion when I am beginning something new. My mind is focused

on how much I need to learn and observe in a season of new-

ness, so I feel a special blessing to have that boon at the begin-

ning of Epiphany. “Pay attention!” is my task right now, and let

us do this together. Let us keep watch for each other. What is

the Spirit stirring up around us and in our lives?

So let us begin this time together with eyes wide open to how

the Spirit of God is moving among us. To how God is active in

this place. I invite you to stop in and greet me in the office. I

also invite you to watch for sign up sheets for small group con-

versations. Let us get to know each other and hear each others’

stories. I am so delighted to be here with you.

Shalom

Pastor Nicole

SALEM NEWS

Salem Council Highlights - November

Stewardship: Stewardship letters went out to congregational members and the council thought the committee did a good job.

Worship and Music: will continue as a joint committee.

Old Business: Website: Janice Wyssling said they have sent pictures to web designer, but they need wording for webpage. Webpage will allow us to live stream service at the same time Ellen Wyssling Alonen is streaming service on Facebook.

Lighting: Karen reported that Kevin replaced bulbs in 2 fixtures to see time involved and if there were any problems. He feels amount of bulbs can be reduced in each fixture as lighting is better with LED bulbs. If we order the bulbs and want to proceed, Kevin would just install when he is in town and has time. Linda Tilley made a motion we move forward with this, check out application for rebates, and order bulbs second by Elaine Pallin.

Salem Budget: Steve Thomas said there was a brief meeting with Zion before council tonight to set a joint budget which Salem's portion of budget would be approximately $42,500.00. Steve Thomas explained Pastoral compensation package (this is based on synod recommenda-tions). Costs for joint items will be reviewed by member of each church monthly then Salem as the fiscal agent will pay bills and Zion will reimburse half to Salem.

New Business: Christmas Newspaper Ad: Steve said we previously did this as a Parish and wanted to know what Salem would like to do. Deadline is Dec. 13, for Christmas Eve: 4" ad is $46.69 or larger ad for $92.00 The way this is written it could include times for both churches but Linda Tilley said we need to see if Zion wants to pay part if we do both churches times.

Meeting with Zion to Establish Budget: Steve feels we should get to-gether with Zion and establish a budget for costs of shared ministry so Salem can have an amount to work with for planning Salem’s budget.

Pastor Nicole’s ordination service will be held January 25 at

1pm at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Kasson, MN. There is an

open invitation to all who would like to attend, and I ask that

you hold this special date in your prayers this month as well.

There will be an installation service at both Salem and Zion

sometime following the ordination service.

Pastor Nicole wants to meet you!

Watch for sign up sheets for a chance

to meet our new pastor in small

groups and for her to meet you.

The Salem Council has decided to end the Radio Broadcast as of December 31, 2019. December 29 will be the final broadcast, which will be the Salem Christmas Eve Worship.
