PATRIARCHAL SOCIETY

It consists of a male-dominated power structure.

Men hold the position of power . The man is :

- the head of the family unit

- the leader of social groups

- The boss in the workplace

- The head of government

QUESTIONS

1. A girl´s birth is not celebrated. She is not welcomed . The neighbours commiserate with the mother and

nobody congratulates the father.

(Mothers feel uncomfortable , sad – then shocked – finally guilty )

2. Girls are forbidden to go out alone, without a man escort. They are confined at home. They are no more

free individuals.

3. Men : code of honour women : obedience

5. Quiet – humble – submissive

6. Mothers teach the same lesson of obedience to their daughters and the same lesson of honour to their

sons.

school means that she has entered the world of dreams and aspirations for her future life.
