  • Health and Social Care Career Fair

A Health and Social Care Careers Fair was held in the school hall on Wednesday, November 13th for Yr 10 and Yr 11 pupils studying BTEC Health

and Social Care as well as Year 9 pupils who are thinking of taking the course next year. Employers from across Gwynedd who work in the area

of Health & Social were invited to attend the event. 15 of them came to share their experiences and discuss their career paths. Pupils were

shown the many different aspects of working in social work, nursing, dealing with adults with disabilities and the homeless. It was an eye opener to the many opportunities available in Gwynedd.

Mrs Sian Thomas from the college in Pwllheli gave some worthwhile advice on the Level 3 BTEC courses available and it was a pleasure to wel-

come Michaela Griffiths a former H&S student and 2 of her friends from the college. Employees from the Welsh Language Commissioner came to emphasize the advantages to pupils of being bilingual and the real need for individuals who can speak Welsh in Health and Social Care

field. It certainly was a useful morning and we are very thankful to CAMHS, GISDA, the Red Cross, Antur Waunfawr, Mrs Delia Roberts from

Ysbyty Bryn Beryl, Mrs Bethan Llwyd form Gwynedd Council, Mr Mike Daly, dentist, Dr Arfon Williams, family doctor, Age Concern, Mr Eryl

Rogers from Bryn Meddyg Nursing home and an social services for being so supportive of the event.

Student following the BTEC Hospitality course took responsibility for the catering, providing refreshments for the employers on their arrival

and during the interval. There was much praise for the scones and the white chocolate cookies were excellent! Thank you to Mrs Caryl Jones a

Karen Williams for their help and support.

  • Happy Christmas and a Happy New Year to everyone! School re-opens on Monday - January 6th, 2014

PE Department The -16 and -14 rugby teams have won all their games this year. They will now represent the area in the Welsh Cup in the new year.

A group of 50 pupils went to Cardiff in mid November to watch the Welsh rugby team play against Argentina. Following the success of the trip, we hope to

    arrange another one soon.

The boys have been running cross country for two weeks during the lessons and a number of school records to have been broken by Tomos Davies yr 7,

Rhys Jones yr 8, Harri Hughes and Ifan Roberts from yr 9.

Sam Schwabauer has recently improved several of his personal times in swimming. A fortnight ago he took part in a North Wales Competition Llandudno

North Wales and finished in the top three in many of the races and most of his times were in the fifteen fastest in Wales. Keep up the good work Sam!

Winter Fair Our annual Winter Fair was held on Wednesday, November 27th with the proceeds going to Alaw Ward, Ysbyty Gwynedd. A team of 20 pupils from Year

10 volunteered to arrange the fair, and worked extremely hard to determine its success with the support of Mrs Jacqui Parry. The school hall was a

hive of activity with twenty local businesses selling crafts and goods on their stalls as well as stalls and activities by the pupils. Father Christmas also

paid a special visit on the evening.

£1300 was raised on the evening and there is still more money coming

in. The evening would not have been possible without the hard work of

pupils and staff of the school and family and friends that came to sup-

port on the evening. We are also extremely grateful to the local busi-

nesses and individuals who donated prizes for the raffle. Thank you

    for all the support shown.
