CAO Update Hello again Ryley! For my final article of 2019, I

thought I would pass along some progress news…Our final moment for the “Cessation of the Train Whis-tle” is extremely close! As I mentioned in August, Angel has been keeping a close eye on the file and we now only wait for CN to make some timing adjustment to the crossing arms and then it’s all done. Of course, their strike came at the worst time, but we’re crossing our fingers for some Christmas silence. Either way, 2020 will be the year that Ryley will finally be able to listen to train rumbles, track clack-clacks and metal wheel squeals in relative, splendid silence.

Robert Young is eagerly waiting for winter to set in earnestly so he can build the ice for the Outdoor Skat-ing Rink. Unfortunately, we haven’t received enough interest in curling, so we’ve delayed the installation of that ice surface – it’s simply not economical to oper-ate the plant without enough teams. Maybe you can spread the word and encourage some members of our community to take up the sport? Perhaps you can sign up? Nevertheless, we are looking for alternatives to use the space if curling doesn’t take hold this year.

We’re very encouraged by some of the business development that is occurring. The River Rock is now providing a lunch and supper service while Grethe con-tinues providing breakfast and lunch. We are working to get our fuel service back online and several home-based businesses like Mike Klassen’s drone Gradient Imaging are starting to gain traction. We are eager to help you succeed in your commercial endeavours so please let us know how we can help to support you.

It’s been six months since you’ve welcomed me in as your new CAO. I’ve learned a lot about Ryley in that time and I remain very enthusiastic about some of the wonderful ideas and initiatives that Council, Staff and numerous Citizens have brought forward toward building our community even stronger and fulfilling our vision of “Living the Life of Ryley”. Regardless of some fiscal pressures from National and Provincial challenges, we enjoy some solid Municipal advantages because of our great partnerships with Clean Harbors, Beaver Municipal Solutions, Beaver County and fellow regional towns and villages. Additionally, community member voices such as yours and groups such as the Ryley Public Advisory Committee (RPAC) push us to strive for excellence and demand of us to continually reach higher.

Finally, I know you’ve noticed that 52 Avenue by the School and Pool didn’t get paved; the weather beat us. However, as soon as the spring weather clears enough, that project will be promptly completed. In the end,

that extra time spent under traffic will compact the sub-surface just a little tighter and our street will be a stronger construction. We’re now planning and weighing options for our 2020 capital project(s) so we can get right to it. We can’t announce anything yet, but I have a strong feeling that we have a great year ahead of us.

Club By Storm Josh Ruzicka, Club Reporter

The Beaver County 4-H Multi Club has begun in its third year of 4-H in Holden, with more members and more projects, including the new business entrepre-neur project in which there are 11 members. The other projects include small engines, heifer, sheep, swine, horsemanship and carcass beef.

The club has had three meetings so far and they have all been very productive, and the snacks have been delicious. Our club goal this year is to have all members complete their record books and 4-H diaries on time.

We’ll keep you posted for the next update for the Beaver County 4-H Multi Club.

Check out the club’s Facebook page (Beaver County 4-H Multi Club) to see upcoming events and news.

HAITI REBUILDING FUNDRAISERTHANK YOU !!

Once again, I’d like to express my heartful thanks to everyone who donated used items to my Value Village FUNDrive fundraiser for a construction project in Haiti in 2020. This time, 10,000 lbs of used items were col-lected and delivered to Value Village. That’s about 4.5 tons of material that might otherwise have ended up in our landfill. Good job, everyone!

The environment wasn’t the only winner - between the money paid by Value Village ($1200) and other generous cash donations, over $2300 was raised for my Haiti construction project. That’s almost enough to build another hurricane shelter home! Thank you so much!

A special thank-you is due as well to the Ryley Library Board and staff who graciously allowed me to use the library and some staff time to collect the used items.

I may hold another used clothing drive in the Spring if there is sufficient interest so if you’d like to partici-pate again (or weren’t able to donate this time), you may have another opportunity. I also hope to partici-pate in the Village Market in March.

Thank you again, Ryley! This is indeed an amazing community of which we can be proud!
