Term 6/Friday 1 July 2016
Dear Parents/Carers
What a busy Term! It’s not over yet…
REMINDER MEET THE TEACHERS
A quick reminder, that there is an opportunity for you to meet your child’s new class
teacher/s (Foundation Stage – Year 5) from 3:00pm in the afternoon on Monday 4 July. The
gates will open at 3:00pm to allow you to come in through the Main Entrance and to find
your child in their new classroom (where they will have been since 2:00pm). Once you have
chatted with the teacher, you may take your child home. For those of you who cannot be
here at the end of the school, your child will be dismissed at the usual time and led out by a
TA (FS/KS1) or sent out by the teacher (KS2) to find their parent on the playground. Miss
Burch and I will be at either gate to check each child is going home safely.
Teachers will be available until 4:00pm for those parents who want to speak without their
child present or who cannot arrive until later. For those parents at work, there will be an
opportunity to meet your child’s new teacher during the curriculum/mathematics workshops
we host in Term 1.
NEWPARENTMAIL PMX
Our school will shortly be upgrading our communication system from Parentmail2 to
Parentmail PMX. The migration to the new style of Parentmail will be one system for our
parents. Parents will be able to access messages, forms and permission slips, make
payments, book events and parent’s evenings. Parents can also access an APP for Android
and IOS.
When a registration invite arrives, you will be required to click on the link and follow
the verification process and set up a password for your account. All these details will
be sent out in a letter with clear instructions as soon as we have them.
NEW DAY VISITS
Y2 RUTLAND WATER
Year 2 visited Rutland Water on Monday 23 May
to consolidate their learning about animals and
habitats. Here is Shreyansh’s review of the visit:
Firstly we went mini-beast hunting in the damp
forest. We had to look under rocks, stones and
Langtoft Primary School ~ Newsletter #102 July 2016
logs to find their habitats. Also, we used special magnifying pots to help us look at them
close up. The guide told us all about the creatures and where they live. Next we went pond-
dipping. We found lots of creatures, some we had never heard of before. My favourite
creature is a water-boatman which bobs to the surface and sticks out his bottom to breath!
Did you know that dragonfly nymphs are dragonfly babies?
After lunch we used binoculars to look on the reservoir for animals and were able to see
some which were really far away. Next we made a bird feeder using a pine cone, lard,
raisins, apples and breadcrumbs. It was very messy but great fun! We all had a fantastic
day and I was sad to leave.
Thank you to Mrs Gaches, Miss Butler, Mrs Downie, Mrs Poulter and Mrs Nickson for
accompanying Year 2 on the visit.
Y4 LANGTOFT CHURCH AND PETERBOROUGH CATHEDRAL
Mrs Graves writes:
As part of Y4’s RE learning, we visited Langtoft’s St
Michael’s and All Angels church in order to find out
whether we could see key features such as the altar,
font and lectern. We had the opportunity to ask the
Rev. Michael Howard our questions.
We then visited Peterborough Cathedral in order to
compare the church to this … what a difference!
We had a wonderful day exploring the cathedral and
finding the features. We were involved in Tudor
activities where we were able to find out what life was
like for the monks living, working and training in the
Abbey of Peter 500 years ago before Henry VIII
stepped in and the monastery was dissolved.
Finally, we were able to visit the final
resting place of Henry VIII’s first wife,
Katherine of Arragon.’
Thank you to Mrs Redman, Mrs
Adams and parent, Miss Joyner,
for accompanying the children.

Y3 VISIT TO STIBBINGTON
Mrs Britten writes:
‘Year 3 became World War 2 evacuees for the day
on Monday 20 June. They were able to gain an
insight into what life would have been like for the
thousands of British children evacuated from their
city homes and taken to the safety of the
countryside in 1940.
Year 3 braved the rain to walk from the Wansford
station to the Stibbington centre. They played
quizzes, filled out identity cards, experienced a
lesson and even practiced a gas mask drill to name
just a few of the activities.’
A special thank you goes to Miss Butler (trainee
teacher) and parent, Mr Phillips, for
accompanying Year 3 on the day.
Y6 VISIT TO SEE ‘CHARLIE AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY’
On Wednesday 29 June our Year 6 enjoyed their ‘end of primary school treat’ by travelling to
London to see ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’ at the
Theatre Royal in Drury Lane. The class were
mesmerised by the show and it provided inspiration for
our very end-of-year production of ‘Sleeping Beauty – the
Ugly Truth.’
Whilst eating our McDonald’s meal in Baldock Services,
two adults approached me to comment on the fantastic
behaviour of the children. Theo and George were sat
next to me and could not believe that people really did
this: they thought I just made up stories like this to tell in
assembly! Yes, boys, we really are that great!
Thank you to Mrs Wells and Miss Wells for
accompanying the children.

FS VISIT TO WOBURN SAFARI PARK
Miss Henson writes:
‘Foundation Stage had a marvellous trip to Woburn Safari Park yesterday, the children were
able to gain some fantastic views of tigers, wolves, black bears, lions and monkeys from the
coach…three monkeys even climbed on the roof whilst we were driving!
We learnt about tropical birds, saw penguins, sea lions and many other animals, although a
highlight was being able to stroke an elephant (that and of course lunch, pictured!). The
children were a credit to the school and behaved beautifully throughout the day, I was really
proud of them. Well done Foundation Stage!’

students, Jacob Didsbury (Y2), Evan Morris (Y1), Jak Henson (Y4) and Gabriel Carver (Y4).
Parents were invited to come and watch them play their guitar/ukulele pieces. Well done

NEW RYLEY BRISTON
Ryley Briston attended Langtoft
Primary and his brother, Theo is in
Year 6.

have agreed to help support Ryley and
Theo’s family to continue Ryley’s
medical care by selling wristbands for
#Root4Ryley on Thursday 7 and
Friday 8 July in school for £1.50 each.
Theo Briston and Thomas Payne will
be visiting each class on these days,
collecting the money from children who
wish to purchase a wristband so please

class teacher and not the school office.
Our thoughts are with Ryley and his

SPORTS DAY
Our Sports Day takes place on Wednesday 13 July, with FS/KS1 starting at 10.00am
and KS2 starting at 1.30pm. The event will take place at the pavilion sports field. If the
running track is too wet from overnight rain or if the weather forecast is poor, a decision
to cancel will be made by 9:00am and posted on our website. An email will also be sent
via ParentMail. Sadly, there will not be an alternative date set.
Children are asked to wear their NAVY BLUE P.E. SHORTS and trainers/plimsolls.
Instead of their usual navy blue PE t-shirt, we ask that children wear a t-shirt in the colour
of their house team i.e. red, blue, yellow or green. (This can be turned inside out to
Langtoft Primary School ~ Newsletter #102 July 2016
hide the image/text printed on the front if this helps!) Blue ‘Water’ house, of course,
could wear their navy blue P.E. t-shirt as normal!
Spectators are welcome to bring their own chairs or rugs to make them comfortable
during the event. We ask that you do not cross the track to speak to your child. If there
is a problem, please approach a member of staff in the first instance. Thank you for your
cooperation.
If you wish your child to wear sun protection, please apply this before the start of school
as creams and lotions are not permitted in school. You may wish to provide a sun hat
and a rain coat, too!
