FEB 27 THREADS OF HOPE

Ladies are invited to Threads of HOPE from 9am-3pm on Thursday, February 27th in Room 115 (Fellowship Hall). Please join us to find out how easy it is to be a blessing to someone and receive a blessing yourself! Please remember the time change for the Crochet/Knit group and the new Fidget Mats group.

Threads of HOPE will be making beautiful pillowcases for Hospice patients in homes and inpatient facilities. The pillowcases are easy to make and provide comfort to Hospice patients and a lasting blessing for their families. If you have not made a “Burrito” pillowcase, please join us. There are several steps involved in making the pillowcases, and helpers are needed, in addition to those who sew.

April Catlett, crochet and knitting instructor, will be teaching the Crochet/Knit group how to make lap robes. Lap robes are easy to make and needed by those in Memory Care facilities, patients in cancer treatment, and those in Hospice care. The group will continue making slipper socks, also. If you do not know how to crochet or knit, April, our instructor, would love to teach you. Remember, the new meeting time is 9:00 am to 3:00 pm.

The Fidget Mats group will continue working on Fidget Mats for Memory Care facilities. Remember, the new day and time for the group is the fourth Thursday of the month from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm in room 115, Fellowship Hall. A fidget mat provides sensory and tactile stimulation for the restless hands of someone with Alzheimer’s, other forms of dementia, and autism spectrum disability. The need for Fidget Mats is great and deciding what to put on each one can be very time-consuming. To speed up the process, packaged kits will be available that will include fabric for the mat, backing, embellishments, and instructions.

Please join us to find out how easy it is to be a blessing to someone and receive a blessing yourself! If you sew, please bring your sewing machine, notions for sewing cotton, and neutral- colored thread. All fabric will be cut, pinned, and ready for sewing. If you do not sew, or do not want to sew, your help is needed with pinning, assembling fabric for sewing, pressing fabric, assembling project kits, and signing notes of encouragement to be included with the finished project. If you crochet or knit and have crochet hooks or circular knitting needles you would like to use, please bring them. If not, yarn and needles will be provided.

Coffee, coffee cake, and a delicious lunch will be provided for you in appreciation for volunteering to Help Other People Everywhere. To ensure a correct count for lunch, please call or text Sue Griggs at 501-984-1401.

We rejoice at new members joining the music program of our church. Those who have

joined in the last few months:

9 AM Celebration Choir—Greg Collins, Mike Costlow, Larry and Janet Curtis, Melissa Kirk,

Suzanne Lofgren, Frank and Judy Massingill.

10:30 AM Worship Team—Liz Buchanan, Ron Clark, Jerry and Beng Gormley, Jeff Krout,

Mark Varley, Betty Vaughn.

We rejoice over these newer musicians but we are always open to others joining us.

We are also in special need for these instrumentalists:

9 AM Service—a drummer, a bass guitarist and lead guitarist, brass, wind and string

instruments. If you play, read music and have an instrument available, consider joining the

music ministry and let Pastor Jim know. (FYI—we have drums and a bass guitar available.)

10:30 AM Service—bass, rhythm guitar, and drummer. If you play, have played, and have

an available instrument, please consider using them in service of our church, and let Teylor

Arndt know.

If you have talent and a heart of dedication in the Lord’s service, use it for God’s glory

through our music ministry. May God bless our church mightily this year through our

obedience and faith.

February has arrived and I am wondering where January went. I must be having a lot of fun, if it

is true that time flies when you are having fun. I am thankful that God has blessed me to be a part

of this church and pray daily for the health and stamina to continue to do what he has planned.

We do have three new books in the library for February. Listed below are three by authors that

we are familiar with and are already a part of the library inventory.

Seaside Reunion by Irene Hannon is a story about going home again. It is also about life in a

small town on the Northern California coast. One description of this book is that it is a heartfelt tale

of the lasting impact of friendship, the healing power of love, and the importance of touchstones

(the people, places, and experiences we measure the world against) in our lives.

Tending Roses by Lisa Wingate is a story of love and faith that proves the old adage that we

should take time to smell the roses and try to put our modern problems in perspective. It deals with

many issues that families deal with today regarding separated family members, aging, dementia,

and busy lives. It is a fiction write that lets us see how others deal with problems.

Smoke Screen by Terri Blackstock is a work of fiction set in a small Colorado town. It is filled with

characters who are real, flawed, and relatable. It is suspense as Terri Blackstock does so well. One

father was murdered, another convicted of his death, all because their children fell in love. This is a

book of suspense and life relationships that I enjoyed and found hard to put down.

Take some time in February to browse the library and find a book or two or three to enjoy.

GENE & KAREN NADEAU

Karen was born in North Dakota, but at an early age, her

family, including 5 brothers and sisters, moved to Braham

Minnesota. After high school, she went to Minneapolis to find

a job and started working at Dillards. After several years and

several jobs, she met Gene on an innertube rafting date on the

Apple River in Wisconsin. They were married in 1967.

Gene was born and raised in St. Paul, Minnesota, and after

high school, he went to Hamline University, where he majored

in math and education. He joined the Air Force in 1966 and

became an officer in 1967. They then moved to Alaska where their daughter, Yvonne, was born. Gene served

most of his career in Space Operations, dealing with satellites and missile warning while commanding two

squadrons. He was in operations, education, and data analysis. After living in 8 locations for over 24 years,

Gene retired as a Lt. Colonel in Wichita Falls, Texas.

After dealing with depression, while living in Denver, Karen found the Lord in a neighborhood Bible

study. Karen found the best way for her to serve the Lord was with her gift of writing quality Christian poetry

and devotionals, which she continues to do today. Two years later, Gene gave his life to the Lord after

reading the book “Basic Christianity”. With their many moves, they have attended Lutheran, Bible, and

Baptist churches.

After the Air Force, Gene taught math at Midwestern State University in Wichita Falls for 2 years and they

also ran their own income tax business successfully for 20 years. They retired in June 2019 and found Hot

Springs Village on the internet. They moved here in September and joined our church soon thereafter.

Welcome to an interesting couple.

LINDA HALE

Linda Hale was born and raised in Bastrop, Louisiana. She married

her high school sweetheart, Lavell, and relished 56 years of loving

companionship with him. They have one son, Kelly.

Linda was her husband’s caretaker for the last 15 years of his life.

Lavell was a high voltage lineman for several utility companies which

necessitated several moves involving Phoenix, Vancouver and Kansas

City. Linda held several positions including selling real estate, and for 21

years she was pricing coordinator for a group of stores.

They relocated to HSV in 2018 and soon after Lavell entered into

eternal rest Linda was invited to visit Balboa Baptist Church by several of

her neighbors. Sherry Karr helped Linda find her way into Balboa’s

Friendly Hearts group, led by Glenda Arey, and has been a significant

support for her during the last few months.

Linda’s hobbies include reading, sewing, cooking, gardening, travel, flea market shopping and Bible study.

She is a member of Dr. Polly’s class and loves the great times she is having with her “Fun Group”.

Say hello to this quiet, soft-spoken lady and get to know her, and maybe she will invite you over for one of

her special meals!
