BALBOA WOMEN’S MINISTRY
Balboa Women’s Ministry is a thriving and growing ministry of Balboa Baptist Church. We have seen our num-bers for Girls, Games, and Goodies (GGG) grow from 40 at our first meeting five years ago to 190 and increasing monthly. We could easily host 275 to 300 for our Christmas Luncheons where now we can only accommodate 200 maximum. We envision offering Day Retreats two to three times a year with an average crowd of 250.
What the proposed OUTREACH CENTER would mean for BWM:
Room to comfortably seat 300 attendees at tables for luncheons, Bible studies, style shows, instructional events, etc. allowing ALL GGG attendees to fellowship in one room rather than spread out over other classrooms;
Permanent stage for greater visibility when making announcements for all events;
Better audio/visual system for events needing video capabilities instead of a makeshift screen we made from boards and a sheet for our last Christmas luncheon;
Storage space that is desperately needed for supplies, games, hanging racks for our 80 assorted tablecloths, various card tables, round tables and rectangle tables used for luncheons and teas;
“Café” type area with TV, tables & chairs for guests to ‘drop by’ during the day to enjoy coffee, conversation, reading, etc. with BWM supplying ‘freshly baked goodies’ on a scheduled basis;
Space to accommodate a washer & dryer for laundering tablecloths & kitchen towels;
Areas for exercise to use Bible studies that include work out sessions with each lesson.
A wish list for BWM includes:
A recreational area equipped with “WII” and ping-pong ta
ble(s).
Instant hot water dispenser in the kitchen for quicker access to hot water for tea preparations.

MEDIA MINISTRY
“April showers bring May flowers” is a saying we are all familiar with and we have been blessed with showers in April and now look forward to being blessed with beautiful flowers. God is Good All the Time! May also brings you new books by some your favorite authors to look forward to: Fire By Night - 2nd in Refiner's Fire Series (Austin), Distortion (Blackstock), Inn at Ocean's Edge – Sunset Cove Series (Coble), Buried Secrets (Hannon), Chasing Sun-sets - 2nd in Angels Walking Series (Kingsbury), A Life Intercepted (Martin), Sa-brina's Man and Raina's Choice - 2nd and 3rd in Western Justice Series (Morris), When Jesus Wept and Take This Cup – Jerusalem Chronicles (Thoene) and He Speaks to Me (Shirer). For our patrons who have not read any of Brodie and Brock Thoene's books, I thought I would introduce you to them. Bodie and Brock Thoene (pronounced Tay-nee) are a husband and wife team who write historical fiction. They are authors of more than 65 works and eight of their books have won Gold Medallion Awards. Born in Bakersville, California, the couple first met each other when they were three years old. They were married as college sophomores in 1970 and have four children. Bodie holds a PhD in creative writing and Brock holds a PhD in history and a Master degree in education. Their Historical fiction work titled When Jesus Wept is the story of David ben Laz-arus and Lazarus tells the story – of his own life, of meeting a man called Jesus, of Jesus' teachings and their profound influence on the people and religious authori-ties of the region. Take This Cup is a story woven into the fabric of prophecy. It tells of a young boy named Nehemiah and of his dreams and visions that alert him to a future and des-tiny as cup-bearer to the King of kings. Do you want to develop a more intimate prayer life? Even more, do you want to hear from God in practical ways? Priscilla Shirer offers a deeper understanding of the Holy Spirit based on the life of Samuel, who first heard God's voice while still a small boy. She also gives practical examples from her own life. Through her book, He Speaks to Me, Shirer shares her teachings. Come by and Check Us Out! Sherry Karr and the Library Committee

May 7 Worship Team Banquet
May is the month when we pause to appreciate our Worship Leaders of Balboa. This is a special time when we recognize your individual and joint service ministries to our Lord. We hope every worship team member will make every effort to come and join us. (For all involved on the Media Ministry Team, Celebration Choir, Celebration Bells, the “Light” Ensem-ble, Staff Ministers and secretaries.) Gathering is at 5:30 p.m. with dinner served at 6:00 p.m. Cost for spouses not involved in these particular ministries is $12.00 each.
Our featured entertainment is Rev. Bart and Becky Morrison of Hot Springs Baptist Church. Bart is Minister of Music and the accompanist for the MasterSingers of Arkansas, and Becky is an Ad-junct Music Professor at Ouachita University. She has been the director of The Ouachita Sound this year. The Morrisons came here from Oklahoma.
In a special called business meeting March 29, the
church approved a new garage for the Disaster Relief
Team which will be built by Mitchell Brothers on
church property just west of the existing DR building.
The building will be paid for with existing funds in the designated
DR account.
Construction has begun.

Many people ask at what age should they take their children to church.
The following is from a column by Dr. Billy Graham in the ‘Arkansas Gazette’ on
January 30, 2015.
“I encourage parents to take their children to church whenever possible, even
as babies or toddlers. No, They won’t understand everything that happens; in
fact, they may understand very little. But over time they’ll understand one
thing: Church is very important to you, and someday they’ll realize the reason
church is important to you is because God is important to you—and should be
important to them too. The Bible says, ‘Start children off on the way they should
go, and even when they are old they will not turn away from it.’” Proverbs 22:6
WELCOME OUR NEW MEMBERS

ROGER AND LINDA JURNEY
Roger and Linda both grew up in Illinois and both graduated high school from schools in their respective home towns—Roger in Plano and Linda in Plainfield. After gradua-tion, Roger began a remarkable career with Western Electric, a manufacturer of com-ponents for varied communications equipment. He was drafted into the U. S. Army, serving one tour of duty in Viet Nam. After separation from the Army, he returned to Western Electric as a draftsman, retiring in 1996 after a 35-year career. He then transported school children to and from schools in the Plano school district for five years, and finally retired to begin preparations for the move to the Village. Linda was a stay-at-home mom for several years prior to beginning her 27-year career also with Western Electric. Her tenure with Western Electric ended when they conducted a re-duction-in-force in 2000. Citizens First National Bank in Sandwich, IL was fortunate to employ Linda as a personal banker for thirteen years. She, too, ended that position to prepare for their move here two years ago. Linda presently enjoys being an attendant at the Desoto golf course pro shop. Her gregarious personality makes her a real “pro” at that! Roger and she are enjoying their pursuit of their first holes-in-one on our great golf courses. They have one daughter, Christine. She and her husband Eric Kuehl live in Lemont, IL. Their grandchildren are: Eric, Jr. and Lucas who are still in grade school, and Carlie and Corey have begun successful careers after their college and career training. Linda indicated she and Roger had visited other churches in the Village, but had not chosen one as their place to worship. After she began working at the pro shop, she met Debbie Reifschneider who invited them to visit our church. They immediately felt at home and warmly welcomed by our members. It took very little time before they made the decision to become members. They are members of the Welcome Sunday School Class, taught by the Rypkema/Lewis team. Please make it a point to say hello to Roger and Linda, you will be blessed.
DENNIS AND LINDA RYMER
Raytown, MO is Dennis’ hometown. He graduated HS from Raytown South and attended the University of MO, ultimately joining the U.S. Navy. Unfortunately, a HS football injury was responsible for his Navy career being short. He spent most of his one-year tour having four knee surgeries at the Balboa Hospital in San Diego. After considering several career choices, he began a 33-year career with Union Pacific Railroad as a locomotive engineer. The recurrence of his knee injury forced his retirement in 2006. He now marshals at Granada GC and recently purchased a Suzuki Bergman motor scooter to enjoy riding in the beau-tiful foothills of the Ouachita Mountains. Linda grew up in Steubenville, OH. After graduating HS, she attended a local business college, which was B.C. (before computers). She became very profi-cient on “state of the art” business machines such as the key punch and calcula-tors. (Think that’s funny—this writer learned the comptometer!! –look that up on Bing or Wikipedia!) After moving to Las Vegas in 1975, Linda had a varied and interesting career in the gaming industry. Her jobs with several of the ma-jor casinos were highly visible and professional—beginning with cashier to ca-sino hostess and department manager. A move to Kentucky in 2007 brought a new career focus for Linda. She was employed by Franklin Bank & Trust in Franklin, KY where she and Dennis lived for five years. They returned to Las Vegas for a brief two years, where Dennis’ two sons and five grandchildren live, and realized their lives were just too, too busy! So……they purchased a motor home and traveled several states before visiting Linda’s cousin in Ohio. She informed them her father-in-law lived in this great place in Arkansas and suggested they visit him in HSV. The rest is history—they came, they saw, they bought! They arrived permanently on December 15, 2014. After visiting other churches and ours, it didn’t take them long to determine where they wanted to worship and serve the Lord. They were impressed by Pastor Denny’s preaching and the friendliness of the people they met. They became members of our church on January 15, 2015! They are happy members of the Seekers SS Class, taught by Larry and Diane McGhee; their small group leaders are Art and Karen Laib. Make it a point to be blessed by meeting this enthusias-tic couple.
