Reading Monday - Making Connections

Task: Please read a book of your choice for at least 30 minutes. Try to read the whole book from the beginning to the end.Once you have read the text, your challenge is to make some connections with the text you read. You must make these connections:

● Text-to-self. This is a connection that you personally have had with the text. It could be a similar experience you have had that happened in the book. For example: This book reminded me of the time I...

● Text-to-text. This is a connection that you have made between two different types of texts/books. For example. This book reminds me of another book I have read because...

● Text-to-world: This is a connection you have made with the world from reading the text you choose. For example: This book reminded me of a news article I listened to because...

Are you finished? ● Once you are finished make sure you are editing you work for any spelling or punctuation

mistakes.● Read an article from Kids News● Complete a task on Studyladder under the ‘Reading Pod’

WritingUse your creativity to create your own story, then answer the questions about the picture and finally draw a picture. Use any paper you have or a word document.

Teachers are not marking work at this stage so remember to self edit what you are writing.

Task One Your task is to use the picture to write a creative story. You can use the story starter that is given to you to start your story or you can think of your own one. Remember to use interesting language and show not tell us what you can see.

If you have finished everything or are unable to finish the tasks here are some ideas of things you can do:

Complete an Activity from the choice board (next slide)

Some sport/ move your body e.g. Dancing, Yoga

Art - You could draw your family or yourself

Do some more research on National Parks and the Great Barrier Reef

Afternoon Activity Choice Board. Choose an activity you would like to do and have the materials you need easily available.

Book CoverThinking about the book you are currently reading or have just completed. Design a new cover from the book - one that would make someone want to read it

Physical EducationComplete a P.E with Joe lesson.

Coin ResearchResearch a different currency from around the world. Draw some pictures of the coins and notes.

Bookmark DesignDesign a bookmark for a non-fiction book you read. Include some great facts and pictures.

TimetableMake a schedule for your day. Write down the times you will do each thing in your schedule. What takes the most time? What takes the least amount of time?

Non Fiction TextWrite down as many interesting questions from the text as you can. Can you then create a poster with this information?
