Visit of the Hon’ble MOS-PNG (I/C) to LPG Equipment Research Centre

Hon’ble Minister of State – Petroleum & Natural

Gas (I/C), Shri Dharamendra Pradhan visited LERC on 17.09.16 along with Shri Ashutosh Jindal, Jt. Secy. (Mktg) to review the activities of LERC.

LERC, which specializes in the Research & Development and Testing of Equipments related to LPG Business Stream showcased their innovations like the Tamper Evident Seal (rigid PVC seal) for sealing of LPG Cylinders, Portable handheld Leak tester for detecting valve and O-Ring leak from LPG Cylinder during delivery to customer premises, modified design of Footring and Top Ring for LPG Cylinder, Cooktop for direct mounting on LPG Cylinders, an Internal Inspection System for viewing the internal surface of LPG Cylinders to the Hon’ble Minister of State.

A demo of the Equipment developed for Internal Inspection of LPG Cylinders using an Industrial Videoscope being given to Hon’ble MOS - PNG (I/C) by the LERC team.

The features of the new Tamper Evident Seal which is already implemented across the country being explained to Hon’ble MOS - PNG (I/C) by the LERC team.

The development on modified Footring and Top Ring of LPG Cylinder being explained to Hon’ble MOS - PNG (I/C) by the LERC team.

The Hon’ble Minister of State appreciated the products developed by LERC. Hon’ble Minister of State (PNG)-I/C also suggested that LERC should play a role in helping and assisting startups and new innovators in making the LPG more environmentally friendly by enhancing efficiency & reducing emissions. The visit of Hon’ble Minister of state to LERC was a source of encouragement and motivation to the officers working at LERC. LERC was very thankful to the Hon’ble Minister of State - PNG (I/C) for giving his valuable feedback and suggestions and we, at LERC have started to work in that direction so as to achieve the benefits and results as desired by the Hon’ble Minister of State - PNG (I/C).

COMMITTEE MEETING AT LERC

The 30th Executive Committee Meeting of LERC was conducted on 26.09.16 at LERC, Bangalore. The Meeting was chaired by Shri Y K Gupta (ED-LPG, IOCL), Chairman of Executive Committee and the meeting was attended by Shri Arun Kumar Singh (ED-LPG, BPCL), Shri S Nanadi (GM LPG-OPS, HPCL), Shri Tapash Gupta (GM, LPG-Strategy, IOCL), Shri G K Acharya (GM-R&D, IOCL) and other eminent members of Petrofed, PCRA, DSIR and Oil Industry. The performance of LERC during the financial year 2015-16 and the current status of the projects was appraised to the Executive

The Meeting was chaired by Shri B S Canth (Dir-M, IOCL), Chairman of Governing Body and the meeting was attended by Shri Y K Gupta (ED-LPG, IOCL), Shri Ajit Singh (ED-LPG, HPCL), Shri Suresh Nair (GM, LPG-Sales, BPCL), Shri. G K Acharya (GM, R&D, IOCL) and other eminent members from Petrofed, PCRA, DSIR and Oil Industry. The major achievements was highlighted to the members which was appreciated by them. Members emphasized to take up more R&D works to promote new products and collaborate with research institutes for new developments..

Committee members by CEO, LERC. The overall performance of LERC and the major achievements of LERC was appreciated by all the members and LERC team was complimented on their efforts and was encouraged to continue the same trend in the upcoming years.

Moving a step ahead in the Research & Development carried out , LERC has filed three new patents to safeguard its intellectual property. These new patents are pertaining to :

MODIFIED DESIGN FOOT RING FOR LPG CYLINDER

Application No. 201641033025

Relates to a detachable footring for LPG Cylinder which will reduce the hot repair operation and ease the changing of damaged footring.

MODIFIED SELF CLOSING VALVE FOR GAS CONTAINER

Application No. 40406/2016-CHE

Relates to SC Valve for LPG Cylinders for controlling the gas flow. Relates to an improved SC Valve with two sealing gaskets, thereby enhancing safety by providing an additional sealing face.

PORTABLE COOKTOP WITH SPECIAL MOUNTING FOR LPG CYLINDER

Application No. 721/2017-CHE

Relates to a portable cooktop with special mounting on LPG Cylinder using a DPR that can be used for cooking for indoor as well as outdoor.

Tamper Evident Seal technology has been transferred and agreement signed with M/s RAMCO (I) Polysolutions, Nagpur in September 2016 and with M/s H V Polyfilms Pvt Ltd, Ahmedabad in January 2017, for manufacture of the new Tamper Evident Seals.

LERC proposes to replace the existing Rubber Components (Spindle Gasket and Joint Packing) in SC Valves with a superior elastomer (Flouro Karbomn Elastomer) which has doubly superior properties. The project is nearing completion and the product is all set for commercialization. Joint inspection carried out at SC Valve manufacturer premises with PESO and BIS officials to obtain the final clearance for commercialization.

Ideation Centre set up by LERC for giving an opportunity to the innovators / entrepreneurs to

showcase their innovations and further support being provided to them by LERC.

LERC attended the 23rd Gas Cylinder Sectional Committee, MED16 meeting in November 2016 at Udaipur as a member. LERC also demonstrated their developments i.e Modified design of Footring and Top Ring for LPG Cylinder and Modified SC Valve with double spindle gaskets to the members. The developments were appreciated and LERC was encouraged to continue the work further.

LERC attended the 20th Domestic & Commercial Gas Burning Appliances Sectional Committee MED23 meeting in November 2016 at New Delhi as Chairman of the committee.. LERC also demonstrated their development i.e Cooktop with special mounting on LPG Cylinders to the members who appreciated the same and encouraged LERC to continue the work further.
