Program information

Starts: Thursday, 4th January 2018Ends: Tuesday, 23rd January 2018Each subject will have its own timetable for each day on campus. Classes will always be scheduled between 8:30am - 5:30pm.

The cost of the program is $400, payable upon an offer of a place in the program. Fully sponsored places are available to equity students and students from In2Uni high schools.

Summer Master Classes will be held at both the UOW Wollongong campus and the UOW South Western Sydney campus in 2018. Subjects vary for each location. Look for the icon next to subject title:

This subject gives you the tools to understand the fundamental interrelationships that exist in responsible business decision-making. It explores responsible decision-making with reference to the impact on company strategy, disciplinary functions, stakeholders and customers.

LHA001: Discovery & Rediscovery in the 21st CenturyFaculty of Law, Humanities & the Arts HSC Syllabus extended: English Expected Times: M, W, F (8:30am - 3:30pm)

Through exploring and responding to a wide range of texts in relation to global and social issues, you will learn to make discoveries about places, people, societies and relationships and learn to create your own new ideas. Some of the topics include: Unearthing Inhumanity with Oxfam, Local Writing and Research Abroad, Rediscovering Anarchy with “Game of Thrones”, and Un-Concealing “Frozen” Selves: Disney’s Narrative Warming.

LHA002: Controversies in Contested HistoriesFaculty of Law, Humanities & the ArtsHSC Syllabus extended: HistoryExpected Times: M, W, F (8:30am - 3:30pm)

This subject explores global conflict and deals with the issue of how historians separate fact from fiction. There will be a wide range of case studies from different eras and parts of the world including Alexander the Great, the Tudors, the World Wars, Cold War, JFK and the Russian Revolution.

LHA003: Introduction to Visual ArtsFaculty of Law, Humanities & the ArtsHSC Syllabus extended: Visual ArtsExpected Times: M - F (8:30am - 4:30pm)

Designed to develop your creative practice and give you the skills to develop your HSC major work, this subject includes both lectures and dynamic studio workshops taught by professional artists and aims to underpin and support the development of two minor projects. Your completed work will be exhibited in the TAEM (School of the Arts) gallery at the end of the program to give you exhibition experience.

HAS001: Determinants, priorities and health promotion in actionFaculty of Social SciencesHSC Syllabus extended: PDHPE, Society & Culture, CAFSExpected Times: M, W, F (8:30am - 3:30pm)

Understanding socio-cultural and environmental determinants and how they impact health behaviour is essential in helping develop programs and preventative strategies. This subject offers you the opportunity to examine health priorities and populations at risk. With input from experienced practitioners, you will workshop case studies and local examples of health promotion in action.

SMAH001: An Introduction to University ScienceFaculty of Science, Medicine & Health HSC Syllabus extended: Biology, Chemistry, SciencesExpected Times: M- F (varies 8:30am-5:30pm)

SMAH001 offers you an opportunity to develop scientific research skills, to use modern laboratory equipment and to learn to use modern research tools under the guidance of UOW staff. In this subject, you’ll undertake study in the strands of Anatomy, Biology, Chemistry, Earth & Environmental Sciences and Physiology.

B or above in a Science subject; ANDC or above in Mathematics (2-unit) OR C or above in Extension Mathematics

STEM001: Sustainable Futures through Maths, Physics and EngineeringFaculty of Engineering & Information SciencesHSC Syllabus extended: Physics, Maths & EngineeringExpected Times: Tu - F (8:30am - 2:30pm)

In STEM001, you will explore the big challenges facing future development and engineer your own micro hydropower system. Utilise a 3D computer aided design package and 3D printing technologies to design and test your theories, while combining maths, physics and engineering to find the most effective solution.
