Year 12 Midway Assessment Period
Internal Exams
Summer 2018
Year 12 PPEs• These are Pre Public Examinations (PPE)
• Monday 11th June – Friday 15th June
• You will be issued with an examination timetable after Easter
• There will be study leave for these examinations. If you are not in an exam then you will be off site unless pre arranged with your Head of Year.
• You will receive results during Mentoring on the PPE results day: Monday 9 July
• You must pass the PPE to be able to continue studying the subject in Year 13
• One resit opportunity will be allowed Monday 16 July.
GCSE Re-takes
• Pupils must attend all GCSE Re-take lessons
• Additional supported study sessions run by the English or Maths department
• Pupils complete in class assignments and practice exams
• Pupils are expected to use Mind Maths or Corbett Maths online outside of lesson time
• Weekly practice questions and papers
• External examination period June 2018.
Level 3 BTEC Qualifications - PPEs• BTEC PPEs – beginning of April
• ‘Real exams’ – May/June
• Resubmissions and Retakes – BUT students must have met all deadlines and have proven that they are able to work at the required level
• If students do not pass the retake, students fail the whole programme
• All Units that are completed in Year 12 must be passed to progress to Year 13.
Level 3 BTEC Work Experience• Pupils who are undertaking a full BTEC pathway
will complete work experience week commencing Monday 11th -15th June.
• This will be funded and supported by an outside agency (Develop). Work experience can also be organised by pupils themselves.
• Pupils must consider a placement that would be purposeful and linked to their desired vocation.
• Purposeful placement experience will enhance a pupil’s personal statement, UCAS reference and/or apprenticeship application.
Why are PPEs important?
• They are a mid course attainment check
- Useful for students, staff, parents
• Help support transition in to year 13
• Teaching staff use them to inform what predicted grade they give you for UCAS/Apprenticeships applications
Attendance
• Attendance to the exams is compulsory and vital
• Any absence must be supported by medical documentation
• If you know of any reason why you wouldn’t be able to attend your PPE exams you must speak to the HoY NOW!
To Summarise
• Progression to year 13 is dependent upon:• You must pass your Year 12 PPEs
• You must pass the BTEC Units completed in Year 12
• You can’t re-start Year 12
• We want to ensure all pupils are successful at the end of the two years

Learning Mentor and Chaplaincy support
100% Attendance
• 100% attendance leads to success
• Non – attendance can jeopardise entry to exams
• Year 12 pupils are to be in school at 8:50am for registration each day.
• If parents have provided permission, pupils can leave at lunch time. Pupils do not have to return if they do not have lessons in the afternoon.
• Pupils MUST attend all lessons on their timetable including Mentoring, PSHE, General RE and Key Skills.

• All of our students will be expected to start to think through the application process and to complete a personal statement.
• This is a vital piece of writing in that it can be used to draw together evidence and knowledge needed for an apprenticeship application or as a basis for a job application letter.
