Resolution RECOGNIZING and CELEBRATING

Hispanic Heritage Month

______________________________________________________________________________

Section 1 The Young Democrats Hispanic Caucus hereby finds, determines and declares as follows:

Whereas, The Young Democrats of America preamble expresses as its purpose the stimulation in young people of an active interest in governmental affairs and promote their involvement in the political process.

Whereas, Each year, Americans observe National Hispanic Heritage Month from September 15 to October 15, by celebrating the histories, cultures and contributions of American citizens whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean and Central and South America.

Whereas, The observation started in 1968 as Hispanic Heritage Week under President Lyndon Johnson and was expanded by President Ronald Reagan in 1988 to cover a 30-day period starting on September 15 and ending on October 15. It was enacted into law on August 17, 1988, on the approval of Public Law 100-402.

Whereas, The day of September 15 is significant because it is the anniversary of independence for Latin American countries Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua. In addition, Mexico and

Chile celebrate their independence days on September 16 and September 18, respectively. Also, Columbus Day or Día de la Raza, which is October 12, falls within this 30 day period.

Therefore be resolved it:

Section 1 We celebrate and recognize the invaluable and historic contributions the Hispanic/Latino communities have made to our Country, which have been imperative to the successful development of our Nation common core values and principles.

Section 2 We congratulate and celebrate all the Hispanic/Latino community in the observance of the Hispanic Heritage Month for your hard work and perseverance, being strong pillars for our society enrichment and development.

Section 3 This Resolution was approved unanimously by the Young Democrats of America Hispanic Caucus National Executive Board on Wednesday, September 23 th, 2015.
