Yamaneko-Ryu Karate Club was started by Sensei Ian Lennox (5th Dan) in Durban, KZN. It was solely a Kyokushin Karate Club, it was then passeddown to Sensei Ivan Rossi who started his karate career in 1982 under the guidance of Sensei Ian Lennox.

The dojo was then moved to Cape Town in 2005, and Sensei Ivan was then joined by his son Sensei Giovanni Rossi.

Sensei Ivan has over 38 years of karate experience and has a�ended many compe��ons in his career. Whilst in Cape Town Sensei Ivan wasgraded to 4th Dan in Kyokushin Karate by the Tezuka Kyokushinkai Associa�on of Japan in 2014. Sensei Giovanni was also graded to 3rd Dan in 2014.

Yamaneko-Ryu in 2019 decided to change direc�on and move over to another style and associa�on namely SA Shotokan Karate, the decision waschosen so that the students will be able to enter Interna�onal Compe��ons as well as Olympic Compe��ons.

The club name ‘Yamaneko’ (山猫), is Japanese for ‘wild cat’. It is referred to as someone who is strong, vicious and strikes fast. Yamaneko - Ryufocuses on tradi�onal shotokan karate now but is also involved in the spor�ng side, therefore tournaments are now regularly a�ended.

1) All karateka are subject to the rules and regula�ons of Yamaneko - Ryu Karate.2) Karate is a contact sport with the possibility of physical injury. Training is therefore done at own risk;

however, the utmost care is taken to ensure that no karateka is being put at serious risk during the training sessions.

3) Sensei Ivan or Sensei Giovanni as well as any other instructors taking the class needs to be informed of any medical condi�ons BEFORE THE CLASS.

4) Karateka’s will not be allowed to par�cipate in training if such training will impair their health in any way. However; every karateka injured or not will be at all lessons to show spirit and support fellow karateka’s.

5) Please, no parents allowed inside the dojo while class training or grading takes place, except otherwise informed so by Sensei’s.

6) Correct karate ou�it will be worn to class, Full Karate Gi & Belt or Karate Pants, Belt & Club Shirt.7) No jewellery, armbands, watches, shoes, socks, or other t-shirts except club issued may be worn.8) No chewing gum allowed.9) No grading for the karateka will take place unless the karateka’s grading, monthly & yearly registra�on

fees have been paid in full and upto date.10) Karateka should at least have done 30 Karate Classes per semester to be allowed to grade and pass the

fitness test.11) Grading’s will be assessed on the karateka’s ability and understanding of the style as well as being able to

perform all that is required for that grade.12) fees are payable up un�l 31 January the following year.Yearly Membership13) are payable on the , wether it be a public holiday, Saturday or Monthly payments 1st day of each month

Sunday. Extension will be granted un�l the .3rd of each month14) Only EFT Payments will be accepted.15) No cash or cheques accepted.16) The month of December is payable even though the dojo closes early in December.17) Monthly fees are , due to work, sport or other related payable regardless of classes not a�ended

ac�vi�es. 18) If karateka resigns from Yamaneko-Ryu Karate, there is a one (1) months cancella�on and class fees

will be payable �ll the end of the following month karateka has informed Sensei Ivan or Sensei Giovanni of resigning. If karateka does not inform Sensei’s of resigning, it is accepted that the karateka is s�ll a member and trainee of Yamaneko-Ryu Karate, and therefore liable for class fees.

19) Any administra�ve enquiries should be directed to Sensei Giovanni, BEFORE or AFTER class, or via electronic mail. The instructor of the class may also be consulted and queries will be directed to Sensei Giovanni via the instructor.
