    The heart of your diving

    equipment and your most

    important choice when assembling

your personal diving system. There are

many regulators on the market and the

selection may seem daunting. Apeks makes

the decision easier. As regulator specialists

we are dedicated to manufacturing regulators

that give reliable high performance in the most

demanding situations - perfect for professional and

tech divers and the only choice for serious recreational

divers. The performance of your regulator is of the utmost

importance, as this reflects the ease of breathing in all diving

conditions and increases the enjoyment and safety of your dive. Our equipment has evolved through many years of research and

development. Independent tests prove their superiority, comfortably

exceeding the tough US Navy Group A test and the CEN European

Standard CE (the first regulators to achieve this mark of distinction). While our

performance figures are impressive, even more important are the comments we receive

from our customers. Divers choose our regulators because their friends, family, colleagues

and instructors, have wholeheartedly recommended Apeks. The most experienced divers from

all disciplines believe in us. We have achieved our original goal - to make the best diving

equipment in the world - and we continue to strive for excellence.

    XTX REGULATOR RANGE- TAKE CONTROL

    2/12

XTX Reversible Venturi System (RVS)Ambient pressure is greater than the pressure under the diaphragm, so the

diaphragm is pushed down onto the lever to assist with the breathing effort.

With the venturi lever in the minus position, the air-flow from the 2nd stage is

directed onto the diaphragm, closing the valve and preventing freeflow.

The Apeks Reversible Venturi System (RVS) allows the diver to control the venturi

assist with greater precision due to the indexable Venturi Lever*. Gas flow to the

diver can be directed towards the mouthpiece by indexing the venturi lever

towards the plus position. This allows the diver an assisted breathe resulting in a

more comfortable dive with less breathing effort. Due to its unique design the

venturi lever can be moved to either the left or right side of the regulator,

depending on the desired hose configuration.

The Indexable Venturi Lever can therefore act as a pre dive switch. Set in the

minus position, the second stage will not free flow either during the entry phase or

if the regulator is dropped in the water. When the diver begins to use the regulator,

the venturi lever can be indexed toward the plus position and the second stage

will give increased venturi assistance according to the set level dialled in.

*Indexable Venturi Lever incorporates a ratcheting mechanism, giving a more precise, tactile feel when setting.

Only available on certain models. The standard venturi lever is available on all other models.

The XTX range offers new features to advance Apeks tried and

tested regulator designs. The option for either left or right-hand

hose configuration and the Diver Changeable Exhaust system

    (DCE). Take control.

The XTX regulators can be dedicated to either left or right-handeduse. The hose routing can be altered from right to left or left to

right by an Apeks Service Technician. This is an extremely useful

feature offering much greater flexibility for personal kit

    configuration over other regulators.

XTX Reversible Second Stage Valve OperationWhether the spindle is set in the left or right-handed configuration, the

diaphragm is drawn down as the diver inhales (see Open Position diagram)

depressing the lever. The lever tilts and lifts the balanced valve and rubber

seating off the valve seat (orifice) allowing the air to flow through the valve

mechanism to the divers mouth. When the diver stops inhaling, the diaphragm

recovers and the spring pushes the poppet valve and rubber seating back onto

the seat, preventing further air flow.

Pneumatically BalancedThe Balanced Spindle Mechanism can be set by your local dealer in either the

left or the right-hand configuration, depending on your individual preference.

Combining existing technology with new ensures maximum performance and

versatility, whilst retaining our world renowned reliability. The poppet valve

allows air to pass through its centre to a counter-balance cylinder, which assists

the spring to close the valve eliminating the need for a heavier valve spring

    reducing the breathing effort.

Cracking Resistance ControlThe Cracking Resistance Control is used to adjust the spring load of the poppet

valve assembly and so vary the initial cracking resistance of the second stage.

The further the control is wound in the greater the cracking resistance. The

Cracking Resistance Control also incorporates an internal fine adjustment for

use by an Apeks Service Technician. This allows the second stage to be set to a

minimum breathing effort with a wide range of first stage medium pressures.

The Diver Changeable Exhaust (DCE) offers the choice of either a

compact, light-weight system, or a longer exhaust diffuser. DCE

can be configured to prevent virtually any bubble interference

from obscuring the divers view. The exhaust diffusers can be

easily and very quickly changed by sliding and locking the

preferred set into place. Divers can now configure their own

regulator exhaust diffusers for individual dive conditions or

    requirements.

XTX REVERSIBLE REGULATOR FEATURES (CONTINUED)Balanced Diaphragm First Stages

Our first stages represent the cutting edge of design. The Apeks team has overcome

complex engineering constraints and produced equipment that achieves top

performance and yet remains uncomplicated, guaranteeing greater reliability and

lower cost maintenance and service. The first stage - the powerhouse of your

regulator - reduces the high pressure air stored in your cylinder to a controllable

intermediate pressure of 9-10 bar. The air then flows along the medium pressure

hose to the second stage (demand stage).

Apeks manufactures an extensive range of first stages to meet the needs of every

diver. All are of pressure adjustable depth compensated balanced diaphragm design

and supply air at exactly the right pressure. For example: as the diver descends the

demand for air increases. To maintain the supply, the intermediate pressure increases

in ratio to the water depth. In the Dry-Sealed System this is achieved by allowing

hydrostatic pressure, acting on the outer sealing diaphragm, to be transmitted to the

primary diaphragm via the load transmitter. Diaphragm first stages have a number of

advantages over piston type first stages, especially when combined with Apeks Dry

Sealed System*. They offer outstanding gas flow, easy maintenance and adjustment

of interstage pressure, and a sealed mechanism totally protected from all types of

    contamination and freezing.

*Apeks invented the first successful dry environmentally sealed system

and all our regulators intended for cold water use, have this

    system as standard.

    Exceptional Breathing Performance

Serious professional and military divers respect Apeks as a manufacturer of superior high performance breathing regulators. The XTX

range not only has to exceed all current European Standards, but also has to be better than its predecessors - the world renowned TX

and ATX range of regulators. Aesthetic considerations alone are never enough to satisfy our designers. You cant tell how good a

regulator is just by looking at it. The XTX range uses all that is good and successful in the TX and ATX, and with typical Apeks attention

to detail combines this with new ideas and materials to produce even better regulators.

The Apeks XTX range has evolved through many years of regulator development. Their

performance is exceptional. The graph (right) details the breathing cycle of our flagship XTX200

regulator. Performance is calculated by plotting and recording this cycle. The inhalation line begins

on the right hand and runs across the bottom to the left. The first oscillation (termed the cracking

spike) represents the effort required to initially open the valve and begin air delivery. Even at this

testing depth the graph shows the low Work Of Breathing (WOB), indicating the diver is expending

almost no energy in maintaining air flow. The cycle continues and the upper line (left to right)

represents the WOB whilst exhaling (greater due to increased gas density at depth). The total Work

Of Breathing is calculated by measuring the total area within the loop - an incredible 0.41 Joules per

    Litre*.

We are experts in the field of regulator technology. Apeks purpose built factory in Blackburn contains the complete process under one

roof. Our unique design, development, testing, manufacturing, plating, inspection and assembly facilities produce high quality, highperformance equipment. Such is our confidence in the quality and reliability of our manufactured equipment we offer a lifetime

guarantee. The XTX range has been developed to further enhance underwater enjoyment for all divers.

    * To qualify for the CE mark, regulators must be less than 3.0 J/L at 50 metres, RMV.: 62.5 (2.5L x 25 Breaths/min), and for US Navy Group A the regulators WOB needs to be less than 1.4 J/L at 60 metres.

    Total work of breathing = 0.41 Joules/litre.

    Acceptable limit = 3.00 Joules/litre.

    EN250 criteria 50 msw 62.5 l/min.
