Introduction

XTS36

The XTS36 is designed to a llow the user to fully contro l his X10 system via the Touc h Panel.

The Touc h panel allows for ma nual c ontrol of ea c h individua l mod ule as well as full scene

control and multiple scheduled events using our user friendly Graphical User Interface(GUI). The unit is self co nta ined and ba tte ry ba cked up in case o f po we r failure, thereby

eliminating the need to have a c omputer running in the ba ckground. The system is

com prised of three sec tions inc lud ing the Touc h Sc reen, the X10 serial interface and the

PC based Lighting Configuration software package.

The XTS36 is a full featured c olour 3.6 inc h VGA Touc h Panel unit. The dev ice fea tures

an active matrix wide viewing angle LCD display with exceptional brightness and high

cont rast. The Touc h Sc reen is ava ilab le in two ve rsions one mo unting in a sta ndard 2

ga ng elec tric al box and a nother in a ta ble top e nclosure.

An IR remote option is available allowing control of scenes via a handheld IR remote

control

The CM11 serial inte rfac e is ma nufa c tured by X10 and a llow s the XTS36 Touc h p anel to

c ommunic ate to the pow er line.

How to Install

The Touc h Sc reen should b e removed from the box and the p rote c tive plastic c ove rings

should be remo ved (there m ay b e p rotec tive p lastic o n the front of the b ezel as well as

on the top of the LCD d isplay. Be ve ry c areful when remo ving the protec tive c overing of

the LCD d isp lay).

Insta llation inc ludes the c onnec tion of the 4 wires to the Touc h sc reen c onnec tor.

In the c ase o f the ta ble top enc losure a stand ard C AT5 ca ble is c onnec ted direc tly from

the RJ45 connec tor on the enc losure to the RJ45 connec tor on the IES Serial Ad apter.

In the c ase o f a w all mo unt unit the 4 CAT5 wires a re c onnec ted to the 4 wire terminal

bloc k on the rea r of the Touc h p ane l. The Terminals a re m arked as follows and should be

c onnec ted to the CAT 5 Cab le co lours as listed .

Note. Wiring should be checked and Voltmeter should be used to verify +12V and

Ground be fore co nnec ting to the Touc h Sc reen.

A DB9 cable is then connected from the serial adapter to the X10 CM11. In addition the

supp lied po wer supp ly must a lso b e c onnec ted to the serial ad ap ter.

USB Driver Installation

Connec t a USB c ab le from a USB po rt o n the PC to t he m ini USB c onnec tor on the Touc h

Sc reen (When front cover is remo ved the c onnec tor is loc ate d on to p of the Touc h

Sc reen).

Note, it is reco mm ende d to c onnec t the USB cab le be fore powe ring the Touc h Sc reen

espec ially when using a Desk top PC.

The PC will dete c t tha t new hardwa re is c onnec ted and the following sc reen will be

displayed . Clic k No and then Next.

Note, that the first time the program is launc hed you w ill be asked to e nter the location

and the Loc ation sc reen will be d isp laye d . After selec ting the c ountry, c ity and time zone

press the mod ules tab to naviga te b ack to the mo dules sc reen.

Enter the m od ule Type, you c an c hoose from Lam p , Ap plianc e or Windo w Trea tment .

Next lic k enter and ente r the House a nd Unit Co de for the module.

Module types are as follows:

- No t Defined : The de fault c ond ition, the user must de fine the type from the list.

- Lamp : Is used for d imma b le de vice s.

- Ap plianc e : Is used for non dimma ble de vices.

- Windo w Treatment : Is used for shutters, blind s etc . (may not a pp ly for all systems)

Note, it is impo rta nt to spe c ify whe ther the mod ule is a two wa y X10 mo dules or supp orts

the extende d X10 forma t. This will a ffec t whether unit is c ap ab le or rec eiving feed bac k

to b e d isplaye d o n the Touc h Sc reen.

Please refer to user guide for individua l X10 mo dules to de termine the c ap abilities of the

X10 de vice .

System Name

The System Nam e a llows the user to e asily c ustom ize the w elcome a rea of the sc reen b y

ente ring new text into the system nam e a rea . The new text will appe ar on the Touc h

Sc reen instea d of the de fault Welcom e . Add itiona l customization c an b e d one using

the Skins customization Software.

Download

The d ow nloa d c hoice will do wnloa d the displayed X10 Configurat ion to the Touc h

Screen. To d ownloa d c onnec t a c ab le from the USB po rt on the PC to the c onnec tor on

the Touc h Sc reen (When removing the front cover the c onnec tor is loc ate d on top of the

Touc h Sc reen). Click do wnloa d.

Calibrate

The c alibrate func tion a llows the insta ller or user to rec alib rate the Touc h Sc reen to uch

area (this may be necessary if the user determines that the touch areas do not align

properly with the graphics (i.e. you can touch outside of the selected area or in the

selec ted a rea and there is no respo nse from the Touc h Sc reen).

To c a librate c onnec t the c ab le from the USB port to the c onnec tor on the Touc h Sc reen .

Clic k ca librate . You w ill see the Touc h Sc reen go into c alibrate mod e a nd yo u will be

asked to touc h the sc reen in the four corners with a stylus.

The Touc h Sc reen will then indica te to yo u that c a lib rat ion is c omplete d a nd w ill go b ack

to the ma in menu sc reen.

Serial

Serial allow s the user to set the c orrec t serial po rt that is c onnec ted to the X10 serial

adapter.

Connec ting to the interfac e a llows the user to test SW co nfigurat ion.

To set the serial po rt the user should c onnec t the c ab le from the PC serial port (It should

be note d tha t some PCs tha t d o no t ha ve a serial p ort w ill req uire a USB to serial

converter that will have to be purchased separately) to the interface using a standard

seria l cab le.

The user should then selec t the seria l po rt a nd left c lic k the m ouse t o selec t.The user will then be a ble to c ontrol the individua l lights via the ma nual c ontrol butto ns as

seen o n the sc reen o n the next pa ge.

X10 Unit Prog ram mingThe X10 programming a llow s you to p rogram spe c ial functions on the X10 units suc h as

addresses.

The p rog ram ming requirements are de termined from the b roc hure and user guided fo r

the individual X10 modules.

It c an b e removed by simp ly pulling at the sides.

Scenes

The Sc enes sc reen a llows the user to a c tivate the Scenes tha t were prog ram me d via the

configuration Softw are.

Simply push on the d esired but ton to ac tivate .

Note, when the Touc h Sc reen c om munica tes to the X10 serial ada pte r a red ind ic ato r is

see n on the top right c orner of the d isp lay. This indica tes tha t the Touc h Sc ree n is

transmitting to the X10 Interfac e o r wa iting for a response.

Manual

The Ma nual b utton na viga tes to the Room s sc reen.

This allows the user to c hoo se the de sired room and nav iga te to the devices in that

room.

Manual Control

The user ca n ma nually c ontrol a de vice b y simp ly c hoosing the dev ic e to be c ontrolled

(the b utton w ill highlight as show n. The user can then c ontrol the fo llow ing:

Use Up/Down arrows to control Intensity manually

Pushing on the device button and holding for about a second (i.e. Light) will toggle the

sta te o f the device (On o r Off) without the nec essity of using the On/ Off but tons.

Please note that if an appliance module is chosen only the On and Off will be

displayed.

The Intensity ba r show s the level of intensity of the a c tua l lamp.

When you navigate from Rooms screen to a specific room you will see red indicator in

right upp er co rner indic at ing tha t Touc h Sc reen is com municat ing to the X10 Interfac e.

Sched uled Events

The Sc hed uled e vents sc reen a llow s the user to enab le sc hed uled events as

programmed via t he c onfiguration softwa re.

To e nable a sc hed uled e vent simp ly click on the de sired sc hed ule and the g reen LED in

the but ton will highlight (the sc hed ule will only be ena bled if the Green LED is ON).Plea se note tha t m ultiple schedules can be enab led

Setup

The Setup sc reen is displaye d by pushing on the BMB banne r on the w elcome sc reen

for ap proxima tely 3 sec ond s.

The Setup sc reen a llow s the user to set the following:

- Brightness : Disp lay brightness- Co ntrast : Disp lay Co ntrast

- Time : The time tha t the d isp lay is on befo re backlight is shut off (set ting to

off (0) will keep d isplay on a ll the time).

- Click : Turns the aud ible key c lic k On or Off

Screen Loa der Program

The Screen Loa der Program a llow s the user to up date the sc reens in the Touc h Sc reen.

The up da te is do wnloa de d to the Touc h Sc reen via the USB c ab le. The p roced ure is as

follows:

Run the sc rload er.exe prog ram tha t is found in the utilities folde r (naviga te to prog ram

files\ IES\ Lighting Configurat ion\ utilities ).

The following sc reen w ill be see n.

Chec k the box ca lled Reb oot Touc h Panel at Prog ram Com pletion .

The following sc reen w ill be see n.

From the file menu c hoose the sc reen to be do wnload ed .

The file will be in the sc reens folde r which c an be found at Prog ram files\ IES\ Light ing

Configurat ion\ utilities\ sc reensThe file will end in .ies (i.e. Defaultsc reens.ies).

Clic k on program to d ownloa d the file (The d isplay m ay turn white o r cha nge c olours

during the dow nloa d).
