+ EDITOR'S LETTER

Welcome to our renamed publication FuelWorld!

Good, bad or indifferent, do let us know what you think. It has been something that has been debated for at least 18 months internally.

Then in March 2018, we mentioned this to a number of market executives and clients who all made sensible comments.

This Issue 2 for 2018 is also the first time since the quarterly magazine was 1st published in 2009, that we are doubling up as the Official Catalogue for the Fuel Retail & Distribution Conference & Supporting Expo 2018 in Kuala Lumpur. Although there will be a separate Event Supplement that includes the Conference schedule and event floor plan.

Our news section includes the new index for the previous period since our last publication. However the news content has been reduced by 33%. This is paving the way for more features related to each continent going forward.

In future issues, we are including more segmented market news for example, aviation and marine fuels as well as the various fuel brands and local distributors' profiles.

The next expanded issue 3 2018 of FuelWorld will also have Service Station World of Convenience integrated to include Fuel Brand Franchise, Food Services and ancillary services. It will be presented as two publications in one.

The PW Team and I want to thank our clients, subscribers and key market players for their support and we look forward to further serving the industry over the coming years at a time of immense change.

The transaction is to provide northern Mexico with the fuel products. An indirect wholly owned subsidiary of Valero Energy Corporation, Valero Marketing and Supply de Mexico, S.A. de C.V., (Valero), has forged long-term agreements to directly supply refined products from its Corpus Christi and Three Rivers, Texas, refineries through a pipeline and terminal expansion, into northern Mexico.

Valero’s existing infrastructure for supplying northern Mexico is increased by this transaction, in addition to enhancing the efficiency of fuel delivery into this area. By year-end, the company expects to begin delivering products through this expanded facility.

Gary Simmons, Senior Vice President Marketing & Supply, said “This agreement is another step in our strategy to extend Valero’s supply chain. This transaction combined with our agreements to supply central Mexico demonstrates our commitment to efficiently supply fuel and diesel to the growing Mexican markets and will further strengthen our distribution presence, including branded sales.” 18052018

Valero Long-Term Deals for Refined Products Supply To Northern Mexico

Exxon Mobil Unit Sells Italy Refinery, Fuel Terminals to Algeria

Exxon Mobil Corp. has agreed to sell a refinery and three fuel terminals in Italy to Algeria, as the OPEC member seeks to cut fuel imports by refining its own crude.

Esso Italiana Srl, a unit of Exxon Mobil in Italy, signed an agreement for the sale of its Augusta refinery in Sicily to Algerian state energy producer Sonatrach. It’s also selling three fuel terminals in Augusta, Palermo and Naples and related pipelines to Sonatrach.

The terminals will enable Sonatrach to ship Algerian crude to the Augusta refinery and send oil products back to Algeria after refining, Omar Maaliou, general manager of the company’s marketing department. Neither Maaliou nor the Esso statement gave details of the sale’s value.

Algeria, which depends heavily on oil natural and gas exports, has struggled to trim its fuel imports and narrow a budget deficit that ballooned to more than 15 percent of gross domestic product after crude prices began plunging in 2014. The North African nation’s oil production dropped to 990 million barrels a day in April from 1.27 million barrels a day in January 2012.

The Augusta refinery purchase marks Algeria’s first international investment in refining, Sonatrach Chief Executive Officer Abdelmoumen Ould Kaddour said. Sonatrach announced a deal earlier this year with oil trader Vitol Group to ship Algerian crude to Italy to be processed and sent back as refined products, the first deal of its kind.

Sonatrach is to complete its purchase of the refinery and fuel terminals in Italy by the end of 2018, and the deal is subject to conditions and legal requirements, including consultation with trade union representatives and approval of the antitrust authority. About 660 Esso employees at these facilities will be transferred to Sonatrach once the sale is completed.

Algeria consumes more oil than its refineries can process into products, according to Sonatrach data. The company’s fuel tenders to cover that shortfall have sometimes been among the largest in the Mediterranean products market, making them important for regional prices. 11052018

Chevrolet and Shell are getting ready to unveil the industry’s first, in-dash fuel payment and savings experience.

Without the swipe of a credit card or using a mobile device, the new feature allows drivers of eligible Chevrolet vehicles to pay and save directly through the touchscreen in their vehicle when they fuel up at participating Shell-branded fuel service stations.

In order to use this feature, users will need to press the Shell icon within Marketplace and choose their preferred station location. A code will be generated, after a few taps on the in-vehicle touchscreen that allows the user to activate a desired unit and start fueling, which then lets payment to be automatically charged to the payment method on file, with Fuel Rewards savings applied.

The automotive industry’s first commerce platform for on-demand reservations and purchases of goods and services, Marketplace, powers Shell, which also allows users other services like ordering food, make dinner reservations, find parking or hotels, among others.

Rick Ruskin, senior manager, Online Commerce, Chevrolet, said “We introduced Marketplace to deliver value, productivity and convenience to our customers. Bringing the Shell Pay & Save functionality right on the touchscreen of our vehicles is the latest advancement of this platform, allowing drivers to simply access Fuel Rewards and pay for fuel while inside their car.”

Shell, through Marketplace, already provides customers ease of navigation to their nearest Shell station, together with information about station amenities and the ability to sign up for the Fuel Rewards program. Chevy customers, with the launch of in-dash fuel payment to the nation’s largest branded fueling network, will now be able to pay and save from the comfort of their vehicle at participating Shell fuel service stations.

“Being the first to deliver this type of in-dash fuel payment and savings is very exciting. At Shell we are constantly

working to develop better products and services for our customers, and we are always evolving according to their transforming needs and expectations around convenience, quality, digitalization and service. We’re thrilled to be working with Chevrolet to make this a reality,” said Sydney Kimball, Vice President, Fuel Sales and Marketing Americas for Shell Oil Products U.S. 20042018

Fuel Retail Conference 2018

Welcome Selamat Datang and welcome to our 2nd Fuel Retail Conference and supporting Expo 2018 being held in Kuala Lumpur. The event represents a new era an independent international platform for the fuel retail and distribution market; from storage to end-user.

While the market circumstances have changed from last year, the theme of fuel pricing and technology remain topical. Day One is “The Challenge of Fuel Pricing” and Day Two we have the theme of “Technology from Storage to End User”. As previous attendees and clients of PetrolWorld will know, we use the platform to introduce both fuel brands and supplier solution companies from around the world to inform and tell their story.

The new event platform created last year also has a strong focus for distributors to meet and network. Local equipment and solution distributors play a crucial role in the operation and maintenance of fuel supply and retail networks.

At the time of writing this welcome message, we estimate the attendance to the event would be similar to last year’s event with a wider variety of international visitors and a higher number of first timers.

While the main Conference and supporting Expo dominate proceedings over two days, we have a VIP Lounge plus VIP Venue level that operate in and around the event. Together with the main dinner on Tuesday evening, this will provide all participants with quality networking and business time to meet their objectives.

PetrolWorld targets the fuel retail and distribution markets. This includes the Fuel Retail Service Station Networks, Commercial Fuels (including Aviation& Marine Fuels), Distribution Logistics and Lubricant’s. It is also concerned with ancillary services around the fuel service station including the franchise, food services and convenience retail.

The PetrolWorld Fuel Retail & Distribution Conference with supporting Expo is about creating a key “Local & International Meeting Point” for the industry. With the trade event being held in Kuala Lumpur, there will be a special focus on the ASEAN fuel retail market region. With PetrolWorld’s geographical reach, we are expecting participation from other parts of Asia, Middle East and some parts of Africa.

The Asia Pacific region is the most significant developing fuel retail region in the world along with Latin America. The Asia Pacific region demand for energy is likely to rise by 50% and oil

by 40% over the coming 2 decades. On the fuel supply side development of the fuel retail network and fuel distribution infrastructure are a huge challenge.

In Malaysia and Singapore fuel retail markets, employing technology (mobile payments), loyalty programme and generating revenues from ancillary services like the shop are now fundamental to network development. The Philippines has seen a transformation of the fuel retail network in terms of independent players like Eastern Petroleum, Phoenix Petroleum and Seaoil Franchise. China and India have witnessed a revolution in fuel retail network numbers where consolidation remains a key strategy.

PetrolWorld has covered all these regions over the last 12 years and held forum events in all of the countries mentioned above. This Fuel Retail & Distribution Conference in June 2018 is a key meeting point and platform for both local and international players.

PetrolWorld is the only established international business media platform operating in Asia since 1998 that is focused on the fuel retail, handling and distribution markets.

Gallagher Fuel Systems Ltd (Gallagher), founded in 1939, is a leading manufacturer and supplier of products to the fuel retail industry. Gallagher’s vapour recovery systems are installed extensively throughout Australasia and comply to the strictest environment protection regulations throughout the world.

Gallagher is pleased to introduce Universal Vapour Recovery (UVR). Using global best practice methodology and leading-edge technology, UVR delivers a high performing VR2 solution to those wanting a safer and healthier environment for employees, fuelling customers and the planet. UVR is also the sensible choice for those wanting to significantly reduce their evaporative fuel losses and improve their bottom lines. UVR is a retrofit VR2 system that operates universally with any fuel dispenser, irrespective of make, model or age.

UVR continuously monitors the vapour recovery performance of every petrol sale. If the system falls outside agreed performance criteria an alarm is raised to the support provider, ensuring that a fault can be quickly rectified.

UVR continuously monitors fuel flow rate, vapour flow rate and fuel temperature. The data collected accurately controls the Vapour over Liquid (V/L) ratio via an Electronic Proportional Valve (EPV), thereby minimizing the risk of air entering the Underground Storage Tank (UST), or saturated petrol vapour being released to the atmosphere.

UVR also monitors vapour concentration. Ensuring that only saturated petrol vapour is recovered and returned to the UST. UVR can detect whether there is a leak between fuel delivery and vapour recovery paths, which could see purchased petrol returned to the UST rather than being delivered to the customer’s vehicle.

Oil Company Retail Brand News > Asia: News & Updates Section 2 29www.fuelsexpo.com

Enhancing its market share to 6.2% in 2017 from 5.7% the previous year, Phoenix Petroleum Philippines, Inc. has reinforced its position as one of the country’s leading independent fuel companies. It strengthened its reputation as the fastest-growing fuel company in the country with the Department of Energy in its Oil Supply/Demand Report for 2017 also showing Phoenix improving the most in market share among the top four players.

Posting record volume sales in 2017, Phoenix Petroleum led other independents. Petronas Energy Philippines’ share, the LPG business acquired by Phoenix last year which has been renamed Phoenix LPG Philippines, Inc. is also included in this.

Dennis Uy, Phoenix Petroleum President and CEO, said “We are proud to be an emerging major in the industry today, after having started just over 15 years ago in Davao City. As we enter the next phase of our growth, we will continue to be passionate and committed in serving our customers’ needs and growing the business. This milestone inspires us further towards our vision of being an indispensable partner to our customers and business partners.”

In 2017, it posted triple all-time highs in sales volume, revenues, and net income, recording its best performing year yet.

The company recorded a 65% growth from ₱1.09 billion in 2016 reaching a net income of ₱1.79 billion. Core income reached an all-time high of ₱1.42 billion, taking out the non-recurring gains and costs related to the newly-acquired LPG business.

Driven by a strong fuels business in which sales volume increased by 17% to 1.76 billion liters, revenues grew 45% to ₱44.43 billion. A growing number of commercial and industrial accounts in power, marine, manufacturing, transportation, aviation, and other industries is served by Phoenix which has 530 fuel service stations nationwide.

With a nationwide refurbishing of stations, it is strengthening its fuel retail network to a better appearance. Reflecting the company’s aspiration of becoming the next generation fuel company catering to the needs of next generation drivers, Phoenix opened its 100th fuel service station earlier this year that sports the new design.

Powered with Phoenix PULSE Technology, the Company has also launched its upgraded fuels. Phoenix PULSE Technology is a fuel additive with advanced cleaning and protection properties for enhanced power and acceleration, available in all its fuel products.

Phoenix is also investing in new revenue and profit streams, aside from strengthening its fuel business. Marking its entry into the higher margin and high-growth businesses of LPG and convenience store retailing, it acquired Petronas Energy Philippines and Philippine FamilyMart in the past 12 months.

Positive Q1 Result for Phoenix Petroleum in 2018

Phoenix Petroleum Philippines, Inc., leading independent fuel company, has posted an all-time high quarterly revenue

of ₱18.083 billion, continuing its momentum of growth in the first three months of 2018. This is up by 107% from the ₱8.727 billion of the same period last year.

66% growth in total fuel volume sold led to the increase, with major contributions from the Company’s new business segments – regional trading and supply arm PNX Petroleum Singapore Pte. Ltd. and Phoenix LPG Philippines Inc. The local LPG business of Malaysia’s Petronas was acquired by Phoenix Petroleum last year and established the Singapore trading office.

As volume increased by 11%, LPG has accelerated growth compared to the same quarter last year. As Phoenix opened more fuel service stations and secured deals to supply to key accounts in the power, manufacturing, shipping, transportation, construction, and other industries, the traditional fuels business continues to show strong organic growth.

Since its acquisition last January, another new business, Philippine FamilyMart CVS, Inc., increased its same store sales by 3%. A franchise of Japan’s FamilyMart, with 65 stores mostly in NCR, Family Mart is the country’s third largest convenience store brand.

From ₱282.31 million for the same period of 2017, Phoenix Petroleum grew its comprehensive net income for this year’s first quarter by 65% to ₱464.75 million. This was inspite of the increase in finance costs related to new business acquisitions and aggressive network expansion, and the increase in cost of sales resulting from higher fuel prices.

From 5.7%, Phoenix Petroleum increased its market share in 2017 to 6.2%, the highest increase among top fuel players, and cementing its standing as the leading independent.

As it opens more fuel service stations and refurbishes the look to a new and better design, the company continues to expand its fuel retail network. Reflecting the company’s aspiration of becoming the next generation fuel company catering to the needs of the next generation drivers, it opened its 100th fuel service station that sports the new look. 16052018

Ethiopia: EPSE Proposes To Build 160 Fuel Service Stations

The Ethiopian Petroleum Supply Enterprise (EPSE) has decided to build 160 fuel service stations across the nation, in a bid to relieve shortage of fuel stations in the country.

With the view of filling the gap in the fuel distribution sector, CEO of EPSE, Tadesse Hailemariam, said that the Enterprise is planning to form a new company that will engage in fuel distribution business. The proposed company will build 160 fuel service stations in Addis Ababa and regional towns, with sixty fuel service stations in Addis Ababa. “For the time being, the administration has prepared five locations for us.”

The business proposal will be presented by the management of EPSE to the board and if approved it will be presented to Council of Ministers for endorsement. In partnership with a foreign fuel firm, EPSE is contemplating to venture into the fuel distribution sector. “The

government will decide either we will from a joint venture company or we shall do it all by ourselves,” Tadesse said.

The growth of the sector is being hampered by many obstructions in the Ethiopian fuel distribution sector. Some of the red-tapes hindering the development of the sector are low profit margin, unavailability of land for fuel station construction and inefficient transport system.

With a population of 100 million, Ethiopia only has 800 fuel service stations while neighboring Kenya with a population of 40 million has over 2,000 fuel service stations operating in the country. There are 15 fuel companies in Ethiopia engaged in the fuel distribution sector while Kenya has 65 companies.

There are more than 800,000 registered vehicles in Ethiopia, with 480,000 of them concentrated in the capital Addis Ababa. There are only 100 fuel service stations in the city while most of them are old and have small and ageing fuel depots that have limited storage

capacity. An average of 4,000 vehicles are served by these rickety 100 fuel service stations.

Scarcity of land is the other major obstacle hindering the growth of fuel distribution sector. A myriad of challenges to secure land particularly in Addis Ababa will be faced by fuel companies or private investors who want to build fuel stations which has limited the number of fuel stations in the capital as well as the regional towns.

Investors do not prefer to invest in the fuel distribution sector due to this and other pertinent issues. Fuel companies are unable to build new fuel service stations particularly in Addis Ababa.

CEO of National Oil Company of Ethiopia (NOC), Tadesse Tilahun, said that his company has invested a huge sum of money and created many jobs for the youth, although the minimal profit margin is discouraging companies not to make new investments. Managing director of Total Ethiopia, Lasina Ture said that when

Uganda: Shell EasyGo Card Online Sign Up Launch

The Shell EasyGo Card is an all-round Visa-enabled payment solution

The Shell EasyGo card has attracted a lot of attention from customers with massive sign up and usage, following its launch in February 2018. By providing an online sign-up alternative for customers who may not have the time to go to our Shell fuel service stations to sign up, Vivo Energy Uganda has made the card even more convenient and easy.

Customers can have the card delivered to their preferred Shell service station for pick up, after they conveniently sign up for the Shell EasyGo card directly from the EasyGo portal.

An all-round Visa-enabled payment solution, the EasyGo card allows customers to manage their fuel, service car, shop at service stations, other Visa outlets and online.

"Since we launched the Shell EasyGo card on the premise of providing convenient and relevant solutions to our customers, we are making it easy for our customers to get the card using the online card sign up platform. The EasyGo card was developed because of the growing trend of cashless and online transactions in Uganda.” said Vivo Energy Uganda’s Managing Director, Gilbert Assi. 07042018

compared to other African countries, profit margin, is very minimal, adding that it was deterring investment in the fuel distribution sector.

The newly-established indigenous fuel company’s manager, Yigzaw Mekonnen, said that fuel companies and fuel service station owners earn only 15 cents per liter while the minimal profit margin in Africa is 1.50 cents. “There is a huge gap between the profit margin companies get paid here and the lowest profit margin in other African countries.” 15052018

Kenya: NOCK To Open 185 New Fuel Service Stations In 3 Years

As part of National Oil Corporation of Kenya’s (Nock) turnaround strategy, it plans to open 185 new fuel service stations across the country over the next three years, with the State fuel marketer also planning to pick a firm in

the next few months to partner with, in setting up onshore drilling, signaling an intention to step up the hunt for fuel in its blocks.

Nock chief executive, MaryJane Mwangi said that the ambitious plan to expand its fuel retail footprint would double its market share to 10 per cent within the next two and half years. "The first area of focus is growing our retail station footprint from the current 115 stations to 300 stations primarily through partnerships with Kenyans under a franchising model."

Incorporated in 1981, Nock is involved in the marketing of fuel products (downstream), development of fuel infrastructure (midstream) and exploration of fuel (upstream activities).

With the firm beginning operations in 1984, its strategic mandate is to play a price-stabilizing role and arrest

any cartel-like behavior by private marketers. To grow its retail footprint and boost earnings, the agency is banking on the huge unserved demand across the country.

Ms Mwangi said that National Oil has been tasked with providing fuel to government entities. To achieve this objective a wide network is key and will assist the corporation to bring quality and affordable fuel products closer to the people, particularly in areas that are currently underserved.

The State fuel marketer is eyeing to scale up its specialties; liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and lubricants. With LPG penetration currently standing at only 10 per cent, this presents an opportunity for growth for the corporation. The SupaGas LPG brand has been growing at an average of 40 per cent year on year for the past two years.

The agency is targeting to penetrate more markets in rural and peri-urban areas. National Oil, has signed a partnership with an international firm to boost its fortunes. The company has lagged behind its competitors in the supply of lubricants. It is an aspect it attributes to lack of its own blending plant, forcing it to rely on competitors for blending.

Nock expects to be listed on the Nairobi and London bourses, by next year. Through sale of shares in an initial public offering, the dual-listing on LSE and NSE targets to raise $1 billion (Sh100.62 billion under prevailing rates). 24042018

Denmark: DCC Energy & YX Truck euroShell Cards Deployment Collaboration

The venture allows euroShell Card to be used in over 160 Shell and YX Truck lorries in the country. Operating the Shell network in Denmark, DCC Energy, in joint venture with YX Truck, makes it possible for the country's heavy transport companies to use their euroShell Card on over 160 Shell and YX Truck lorries in Denmark.

The two companies, with the new agreement on card deployment, open up for the country's lorry drivers, freight forwarders and lorries to pay with their euroShell Card at YX Trucks tanker in Denmark. At selected Shell fuel service stations, YX Truck customers can continue to only use YX Truck cards.

For carriers using euroShell Card, the Shell fuel card gives access to over 160 facilities in Denmark, along with several thousand Shell truck stations in Europe, where the card can also be used.

When it comes to contact with customers, DCC Energi and YX are still competitors. Nonetheless, a new approach to focusing on efficiency and exploiting synergies in the fuel industry is being announced by the initiative for heavy road transport.

"The agreement with YX Truck provides some interesting new opportunities for euroShell customers operating in heavy road transport. In addition to our own truck stations, they can now also consider YX Trucks networks and pay with their euroShell card. This makes life easier for drivers on the roads, "says Christian Heise, CEO of DCC Energy.

Only card customers within heavy road transport includes the possibility of using the euroShell Card on the YX Trucks network in Denmark.

The business market is being addressed by the euroShell card, along with a number of benefits and an easy and secure payment solution. A user-friendly online system that collects card administration and usage and payment overlap somewhere is followed by the card. 22052018

Sustainable Aviation Fuel Takes Off In European Union

Sustainable aviation fuel produced during the project will meet jet fuel certification standards and will be used by commercial European airlines in regular passenger flights.

Coordinated by Italy’s RE-CORD (Renewable Energy Consortium for Research and Demonstration) at the University of Florence, the four-year project BIO4A (Advanced Sustainable Biofuels for Aviation) will run until 2022 and will be carried out in partnership with Total, SkyNRG, CENER (National Renewable Energy Centre of Spain), CCE (Camelina Company España), EC-JRC (European Commission – Joint Research Centre) and ETA-Florence Renewable Energies.

In 2011 the EU launched the Biofuels Flightpath Initiative to promote the market development of sustainable aviation fuels and set the target of 2Mt/y of aviation biofuels consumption in Europe by 2020.

Total’s La Mède biorefinery will have a production target of at least 5,000 tons of HEFA (Hydrotreated Esters and Fatty Acids) sustainable aviation fuel when it opens in mid-2018. BIO4A will cover all links in the value chain, from sourcing of sustainable feedstocks, to conversion into ASTM-certified sustainable aviation fuel, to blending and distribution to end-users at European airports where biojet will be distributed through standard airport infrastructure for commercial passenger flights.

The project will also investigate Camelina, a drought-resistant non-food crop that could be grown on land at high risk of desertification and used to produce biojet. By adopting a combination of biochar and other soil modifications, the research will aim at developing a cost-effective long-term strategy to increase soil resilience to climate change and fertility, while simultaneously sequestering and storing fixed carbon into the soil and producing a low-ILUC (Indirect Land Use Change) aviation biofuel from Camelina.

Prof David Chiaramonti, RE-CORD, project coordinator said: “Air transport is among the most critical ones to decarbonise, a priority for the European Union together with heavy duty and maritime. “BIO4A is a significant step forward towards clean aviation in Europe: it will bring the use of sustainable biojet ahead in terms of volume and innovation. Moreover, the research on increasing resilience of EU Mediterranean dry marginal land to climate change will open a new window to sustainable biomass production in the EU.” 04062018

Uniti Expo in Stuttgart - Post Event Update

It has been a busy week in Stuttgart at Uniti Expo but all good things must come to an end!

The evnet was made up of three halls; Equipment & Solution Suppliers (Hall 5 & 3); Car Wash Hall 3 : and the shop/convenience Hall 1 for the German speaking countries. The event was bigger this year and was held one month earlier than the previous two occassions of 2014 & 2016. Uniti is now the most important gathering of the European industry and being held every 2nd year, as opposed to the annual NACS PEI, has made Uniti internationally popular.

Seminars in a special sound proof facility in Hall5 was generally full for its presentations and in Hall 3, the Car Wash presentations also proved popular. A number of the large stands also held well organised market presentations. Not having to walk long distances to other parts of the Messe Exhibition center

appeared to ensure the success of the seminar programme.

International visitors also appreciated the fact that the Messe Expo center was based at Stuttgart airport and had both good taxi as well as subway into the town centre. Watch out for the many media reports from the event around Europe.

Uniti also issued its initial post event report. The Uniti press release stated that on 40,000 square meters of exhibition space, Uniti expo offered a unique industry show with an exciting lecture program. To guarantee an ideal overview and an efficient stay for the visitors, the exhibition was divided into the four themed areas ‘Technology, payment & logistics’, ‘Carwash & carcare’, ‘Oil companies & fuel retailers’ and ‘Shop & convenience’. With 467 exhibitors from 37 countries and 17,000 attendees, Uniti expo 2018 is the biggest trade fair of the fuel retailing and car wash industries in Europe. Roll on 2020! 170518

Great Canadian Oil Change, which has 73 franchised stores in five Canadian provinces, will become Valvoline’s largest quick-lube brand in Canada

Valvoline Inc. announced that it has signed a definitive agreement to acquire the business assets of Great Canadian Oil Change, which franchises 73 quick-lube stores in five Canadian provinces, primarily in British Columbia and Saskatchewan. The acquisition is expected to be completed within 60 days. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Great Canadian Oil Change, based in Chilliwack, British Columbia, was founded in 1978 and is the third largest quick-lube system in Canada. The acquisition will expand Valvoline’s existing quick-lube network to more than 1,200 company-owned and franchised locations.

“Growing and strengthening our quick-lube network through organic store expansion and high-quality acquisitions in both core and new markets is a key business strategy for Valvoline,” said Sam Mitchell, chief executive officer. “The addition of Great Canadian Oil Change, with its established brand – which we intend to keep in place – and loyal customer base, provides us with an excellent opportunity to expand our quick-lube footprint outside the U.S.”

“Owners Trevor and Carolynn Weflen have spent 40 years developing the Great Canadian Oil Change brand and building its reputation in the Canadian marketplace,” said Tony Puckett, president, Valvoline Quick Lubes. “We’ve developed a strong relationship with Great Canadian Oil Change over the years through our Canadian installer business team and blending and packaging plant in Mississauga, and look forward to working with Great Canadian Oil Change’s large and experienced franchise-owner base to further grow and improve the business. We believe there is significant opportunity for system growth through both support of franchisees and company-owned store expansion.”

“Great Canadian Oil Change has been part of our family since 1978, and we are extremely proud of the brand we’ve built and the growth we’ve achieved,” said Trevor Weflen, owner of Great Canadian Oil Change. “Although the decision to sell was difficult, we are very confident that Valvoline is the right steward for the Great Canadian Oil Change brand and our franchisees going forward. Valvoline is a 150-year-old company that has a long, successful history of taking care of its people, franchisees and customers. We know Valvoline is dedicated to the growth and success of the brand and every franchisee.” 18052018

USA: Motiva Signs Supply Agreement With Global Partners

Motiva, through a supply agreement with Global Partners (Global), has entered the northeastern U.S. market. Global is a midstream logistics and marketing company that owns, controls or has access to one of the largest terminal networks of fuel products and renewable fuels in the northeast.

Brand meetings were hosted by Motiva earlier this year with more than 20 New England wholesalers interested in marketing the76® Brand at both new fuel service stations as well as the rebranding of current locations. Motiva, through this supply agreement, has established a robust distribution network to this important region while creating significant opportunities to further grow the 76 Brand.

General manager of business operations for Motiva, Eric Lockwood, said, “Marketers are looking for reliable supply and exceptional fuel brands, and Motiva consistently delivers both. These newest supply points provide a ready supply to New England wholesalers, who have expressed an interest in the 76 Brand.”

With plans to continue expansion of the 76 Brand as part of Global’s growth

strategy, Global has entered into a branding agreement with Motiva to rebrand certain fuel service stations to the 76 Brand in 2018, in addition to the terminal ling agreement, which provides Global with a number of reciprocal supply points at Motiva terminals in the southeastern U.S.

“Global invests in brands that provide a high-quality customer experience. Global looks to develop this type of strategic relationship with its business partners, and we look forward to working with Motiva in the growth of the 76 Brand within our retail and terminal network,” said Mark Romaine, chief operating officer of Global Partners LP.

Together with the aggressive growth planned for the 76 Brand, Motiva also has begun discussions with key unbranded fuel customers in the New England market. Motiva will begin posting pricing at unbranded racks in June 2018 and bidding for contracted business later this summer. 17052018

76® Mobile Pay Launch In Los Angeles

Fuel brand 76® launched Mobile Pay, a new payment feature in its My 76® app, a mobile app that allows drivers to find the nearest 76 fuel service stations, track KickBack® Points and stay up-to-date

on promotions. With Mobile Pay, people can now pay at the pump and in-store on their mobile devices to quickly get back on the road to enjoy their journey – whether a road trip or daily commute. Mobile Pay launched this month in Los Angeles and is rolling regionally throughout the year.

To celebrate the new Mobile Pay feature in Los Angeles, 76 is offering 10 cents off per gallon, for up to 20 gallons per fill up at participating 76 locations through December 31, 2018 when drivers pay for their fuel using the My 76 mobile app.

"At 76 we're continually looking for ways to provide drivers with the best experience as they fuel up," said Manager of Brand, Jared Robinson. "Now, in addition to being able to find the nearest 76 fuel service station, the My 76 app can help you pay for fuel at the pump in a fast, friendly and seamless way."

Shell Argentina Acquired by Raizen

Shell has signed an agreement to sell its Downstream business in Argentina to Raízen for US$0.95 billion in cash proceeds at completion, subject to customary closing conditions.

The sale includes the Buenos Aires Refinery, around 645 retail service stations, liquefied petroleum gas, marine fuels, aviation fuels, bitumen, chemicals and lubricants businesses, as well as supply and distribution activities in the country.

Additionally, after the transaction closes, the businesses acquired by Raízen will continue their relationships with Shell through various commercial agreements, which represent an estimated value of US$0.3 billion.

Raízen, a joint venture set up in 2011 between Shell and Cosan, is a leading biofuels producer and fuels distributor in Brazil, where it already manages more than 6,000 Shell service stations.

“We plan to continue thriving in Argentina’s downstream market through Raízen,” John Abbott, Shell Downstream Director, said. “Raízen has already delivered significant value for us in Brazil and we will remain an important fuel supplier to Argentina under this deal.”

Shell has been in Argentina for more than 100 years. The Shell brand will remain prominent through a licensing agreement with Raízen. Customers in Argentina will continue to enjoy access to high-quality, Shell-branded products and services. The agreement is consistent with Shell’s strategy to simplify its portfolio through a US$30 billion divestment programme, and follows a strategic review of Shell’s Downstream business in Argentina that began in August 2016.

The agreement with Raízen is the result of a competitive bidding process and the sale is expected to complete later this year. It offers the opportunity to consolidate a regional partnership

between Shell and Cosan. The sale does not include Shell’s Upstream interests in the Vaca Muerta shale formation. Shell sees substantial long-term growth potential in Argentina’s shale resources. 240418

‘Onexpo30 Convention & Expo’

The 30th edition of ‘The Onexpo Convention & Expo’ has taken place. The event raised the challenges in terms of infrastructure for the storage, transportation and distribution of liquid hydrocarbons, among other challenges that entrepreneurs have of fuels in Mexico in the face of the advances and scenarios of the Energy Reform and deregualtion of fuel retail.

Sergio Zyman, the renowned marketing guru, will held a session entitled, ‘The end of the fuel service station as we know it’, which will show the wide range of possibilities that is available in fuel retail in Mexico.

Experts in the operation of companies in the new digital economy, including Octavio Regalado, held discussions about the use of social networks as a sales tool to win customers.

Celebrating 30 years, the Onexpo Dealer Association is an unique organisation operating in Mexico. PetrolWorld was the international media partner for the event last month. Even more important, The Mexican dealer organisation and PetrolWorld have signed a long term agreement partnership in January 2018 looking to the future development of the Mexican market where PetrolWorld can be a two way gateway for the internaitonal markets. 16052018

Istobal Sustainable Solutions To Reduce Use of Water

Each ISTOBAL rollover saves over 1,800,000 liters of water per year thanks to their recycling systems

ISTOBAL saves almost 2 million liters of water per year on each rollover thanks to its recycling systems. Committed to the environment and the initiatives of World Water Day, the company is a pioneer in the development of sustainable solutions aimed at reducing the use of water and energy and minimizing environmental impacts.

The firm's environmentally friendly car wash technologies include recycling systems that allow rollovers to save an average of 128 liters of water every full service. The company has underlined the fact that, if that water were not reused, it would compare to a tap running for 106 days.

ISTOBAL physical and biological recyclers reuse up to 80% of the water used in each service in the following wash program, and prevent contamination of the water coming out at the end of the process.

Committed to responsible water use in their car wash and car care solutions, ISTOBAL has managed to reduce water consumption by 45% for commercial vehicle wash equipment, 40% on the latest rollovers, and 33% on jet washes.

Similarly, the ISTOBAL esens® chemical product range is certified with the ‘Swan Ecolabel’ of Nordic countries, one of the most important and demanding sustainability certifications in the world.

On the occasion of World Water Day, ISTOBAL calls for responsible water use by car washes. The company reminds us that washing your car at home with a hose requires much more water, 500 liters approximately according to ECODES.

ISTOBAL has pointed out that rollovers and high-pressure jet washes are the best choice to save water. The technology used at jet washes -high pressure water spraying- ensures an average consumption between 40 and 60 liters for a full program. Rollovers in turn use 160 liters of water on average for the full service, and 80% of that water is reused thanks to the recycling system. 22032018

Implico’s OpenTAS Certified

The certification of Implico’s OpenTAS terminal management system for usage with the new EMCS Release 2.3 has become mandatory starting November 2018. The ideal prerequisites for migrating customer systems has been created by the software and consulting company.

Whenever goods are transported within the EU without applying excise duty, the electronic EMCS (Excise Movement and Control System) is used. Beginning November this year, registration and processing must be carried out via EMCS 2.3. After the downstream experts at Implico successfully adapted the software to meet the latest requirements, Implico’s OpenTAS terminal management system has now been certified for use with the new EMCS release.

Since Implico had successfully completed the certification process, with a fully integrated customs clearance tool, Implico Group's logistics solution will continue to help tank terminals and refineries automate their shipping processes.

All customer systems will be migrated to EMCS 2.3 by Implico in due time. To ensure that these are well prepared when the predecessor version can no longer be used, Implico will therefore immediately start adapting the software in all refineries and tank terminals that want to continue using fully integrating customs clearance. OPW Introduces New FibreTite Tank Sump

OPW is proud to introduce its all-new FibreTite Tank Sump, the most watertight tank sump on the market.

From the collaborative engineering labs of FlexWorks and Fibrelite, OPW has made the best even better.

OPW FibreTiteIn addition to being the newest member of the FibreTite family of sumps, the most watertight sumps on the planet, the FibreTite Tank Sump has been designed to meet all of the EPA’s new 2018 UST regulations, which go into full effect on Oct. 13.

“Our goal is to ensure that our customers’ sites are watertight and are in compliance with the EPA’s new regulations when the deadline arrives on October 13,” said Ed Kammerer, Director of Global Product Management. “This solution accomplishes both and is an integral part of our Watertight Wonders product line.”

The FibreTite Tank Sump functions as a liquid-tight isolation container and provides secondary containment for tank fittings, valves and pumps, as well as FlexWorks and fiberglass pipe fittings. This watertight wonder provides surface access to the tank itself, while creating a clean and dry environment for future service and maintenance. Additionally, the height-adjustable top hat accommodates different bury depths.

This innovation represents the only sump manufactured using superior Resin Transfer Molding (RTM) technology. The RTM process utilizes a two-sided mold to ensure consistent wall thickness and exceptionally smooth wall surfaces, inside and out, for an ultra-tight entry-fitting sealing surface.

“We’re dedicated to elevating environmental protection to new levels, radically eliminating water intrusion, increasing the efficiency of product installation and enhancing customer profitability,” added Kammerer. “This collaboration between FlexWorks and Fibrelite is just another example of how we’re defining what’s next in retail fueling.” 06042018
