Are you ready for the August 21, 2017 solar eclipse? Dubbed "The Great American Eclipse," this total eclipse will ONLY be visible on a narrow track stretching from Oregon to South Carolina across the U.S. However, this amazing celestial event WILL be visible from Connecticut as a partial, not total, eclipse. To view it safely, you need proper preparation. CCSU astronomy professor Dr. Kristine Larsen will discuss how to view this
eclipse and more on Tuesday, June 27 at 7:00 pm in the Griffin Room. All are welcome to this free program. Contact the Community Services Department at (203) 630-6349 if you would like to reserve a seat.
The Great American Eclipse
The Life and Legend of Meriden Diva, Rosa Ponselle
On Thursday, June 15, 2017, at 6:30 pm in the Griffin Room, Valerie Bubon, teacher,
lecturer and opera singer, will present a program of the extraordinary career of Meriden-born opera diva, Rosa Ponselle. The program will include an overview of Rosa Ponsell’s
career with audio excerpts from her opera and high-lights from her radio broad-cast years from 1934 – 1936. Also, a film clip of Ponselle’s MGM screen test will be shown. A question and answer period will follow. Ms. Bubon teaches “Exploring Opera” through the Meriden Adult Evening School. She served as President of the Rosa Ponselle Fund of Meriden and coordinated opera concerts at the Ponselle Museum when it was
housed at the Augusta Curtis Cultural Center. Ms. Bubon was a member of the Greater New Britain Opera Association and appeared in many of its productions, making her opera debut in Franz Lehar’s “Merry Widow” in 1988. All are welcome to this free program cosponsored by the Meriden Historical Society. Contact the Community Services Department at (203) 630-6349 if you would like to reserve a seat.
