WWF-US Sustainable Seafood Initiative

Bali workshop June 2009

Goals: Identify MSC units of certification for the swimming crab,

snapper/grouper, tuna, and mollusk fisheries in Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia, the Philippines, and Vietnam;

Prioritize which of these fisheries should complete an MSC pre-assessment;

Understand how to effectively and efficiently conduct pre-assessments at a large scale while addressing the dispersed geography of fisheries in Southeast Asia; and

Develop a shared understanding about the value of strategic fishery assessments against the MSC standard as a tool for making progress on ecosystem based fisheries management in Southeast Asia.
