Dear Parents and Caregivers

My name is Mrs Megan Irving and I will be acting while Mrs Georgina Wales is on leave. Welcome back! Welcome back to the ‘new normal’. This is a rather bizarre time of our lives, but the staff and students and well and truly risen to any

challenges that have come their way. On that note I would like to publically acknowledge to amount of effort that staff have put into

ensuring that all students were catered for. Our attendance is continuously improving. Currently we sit on around 87% attendance.

Reporting

As parents may have heard through the media our school reports for the first semester will be different to our past documents with no

A-E grades given to students because of the disruption to learning that has occurred during this semester. Students will receive a general

comment as well as comments about their progress in English and Mathematics. For all other learning areas students will receive an Effort

assessment.

Pick up and drop off I want to thank all those parents who are following the Director General of Education WA`s request that parents remain outside the

school boundaries on school days. The staff and I are very appreciative of this, but understand that it may be difficult not being able to

accompany your child/children to class. I can say that all children have made it happily to their classes and that teachers have been

impressed by their growing confidence and independence.

If your child is unwell with cold symptoms such as a cough, sore throat, frequent sneezing, fever, etc, please keep them at home until they

are fully fit for school. Now is not the time to expect your child to ‘soldier on’ and send them to school. Your cooperation in this matter is

very important as keeping other students and school staff in good health is extremely important – especially in current times. If children

become unwell during the school day we will call parents to collect their child.

If you want to contact your child's class teacher the best way is via email or to phone the school.

Enrolments for 2021

This has been evident by the amount of Wundowie WOW certificates that have been sent to the office.

The information shared to the Wundowie community regarding a possible bus service in the future is to increase

applications. The position of School Bus Services has not changed as not enough applications have been received to

qualify for a bus service. Once more applications have been received SBS will review their position. Parents can submit

an application for transport assistance to be assessed for eligibility of a conveyance allowance. Please apply via the

School bus service website www.schoolbuses.wa.gov.au

WHAT WOULD YOU TAKE TO MARS? This week years 5 and 6 had

the opportunity to answer

this question during an

economics lesson, as they

planned supplies for their

own trip to Mars.

Choosing from a list of 40

items, students worked in

groups discussing the merits

and failings of each item as

they slowly narrowed their

choices down from sixteen to

just eight.

As I walked around the

classroom I overheard some

great discussion and debate.

Students put a lot of thought

into their choices, considering

both their needs and wants.

After a lunch break, we then watched two videos, one on the value of vertical farming and

hydroponics, and another on the amount of water it requires to produce one kilogram of

various types of food. Surprisingly, chocolate had the highest amount, followed by beef.

Everyone then reassessed their choices. One student changed their choice from soil to toilet

paper, whilst another exchanged baby chickens for tools. Some students did not make any

changes after watching the videos because they felt confident in their initial decision. All

students showed a great level of consideration for each other as they took turns debating

their choices with valid opinions.

I wonder, what would you choose to take to Mars?

Regards, Mrs Webb
