People may have different views on whether tourist should comply with the local traditions

or not. While I cannot deny that the host nation had better accept other cultures, I strongly

believe that it is necessary for visitors to follow the native norms and rules

On one hand, welcoming new cultures may significantly benefit local people. The reason

simply is that the country’s destinations will attract a large number of tourists. If the government

and residents are easy-going and accept cultures from all over the world, visitors are likely to be

appealed to that; as the result, they may desire to pay a regular visit to the famous landscape.

This also means that the service industry will develop, which expects a rise in national income.

Another considerable advantage is that native people can broaden knowledge of cultures such as

languages, cuisine or customs, which is indeed helpful.

However, foreigners have to follow local norms because of several factors. First, the

tradition of a country has been maintained for a long time; therefore, it is challenging for both

governments and the whole population to assimilate into a new culture. Some western countries,

for example, consider asking women’s age is fairly impolite while it is ordinary in the eastern

religions. Secondly, visitors can be accepted their behaviours only when the government adjusts

the law. To illustrate, in Singapore, a really clear country, if people chews gum in public and

then litter, they will be punished even if they are tourists.

In conclusion, visitors had better follow and respect local customs because changing

traditions and belief is actually not a straightforward task.
