As students we often read stories, articles, essays and a whole variety of texts. And from time to

time, we are asked to produce some kind of written work which is painfully read by our teacher

who is ready to dissect it in the search of mistakes, and only occasionally reluctantly read by some

of our classmates as part of some kind of peer correction activity. And then, most of our

production ends up being lost and forgotten in some dusty folder.

It is as part of a desperate fight for the recovery of these pieces of work that this portfolio was

thought. Therefore, you will find the very best work produced by senior 4 students at Institute San

Cristobal this year in these pages. Throughout the present year students worked in the production

of different pieces of writing in English as a foreign language. Here is a selection of the best pieces,

which were not only selected but also improved and edited ad hoc in order to be included in this

collection.

Most of the students have presented their work under a pen name, so the challenge for you as a

reader is to recognize some writer by his or her style. In order to help you most of the students

have included a short biography, although you should be aware of the fact that many biographies

are not true to reality. As most of the work is fictional, any similarity with reality, we must say, is a

mere coincidence. Besides, we do apologize for any information that may not be accurate, and we

do hope you enjoy reading our work as much as we have enjoyed writing, editing and publishing it.

Any comment that will help us improve on our future work will be most welcomed.

My name is Al Alt, and I am 17 years old, I was born in 1994 and live in the neighbourhood of San Cristobal. I live with my parents, Adelina, my mom and Daniel, my dad. I go to the school Institute San Cristobal and I am in 4th year. Also in this place I knew to my current girlfriend who is called Romina. I have been with her for more than one year and the truth is that in spite of my short age I could know and feel what loving someone that is not my parents is. She also studies in the Institute San Cristobal, in 4th year but unlike me, she goes there in the morning. At the age of 11 I entered the club Argentinos Juniors, I played there for two years, but then when I started secondary school I had to leave it because it was not going to be able to cope with everything but it was the best experience of my childhood.

Recoleta Design My restaurant is called Recoleta Design, and it is in the neighbourhood of Recoleta. It has a varied enough menu for there are red and white meat, pasta, vegetarian food and exotic food from other countries, mosttly enjoyed by our clients. These are plates from Brazil, Greece and America. But having so much variety is also expensive.

It opens from 9am to 2 am from Monday until Friday and at weekends from 12pm. His decoration turns into a pub up to 7am. It is modern but with sober colours not to call

for attention but very cozy. It has portraits of celebrities that have requested our service and an enormous screen for special events. Our most expensive thing are the exotic plates since they are difficult to prepare and the ingredients are difficult to obtain. The restaurant was founded in 1909 but it was remodelled due to a modern already explained aspect.

My nickname is Cielito. I am 17 years old. I study at the Instituto San Cristóbal. My birthday is on December 14. I live with my mother, my father and my sister. My boyfriend’s called César and I met him 5 years ago. I like Leopards. I am a shopaholic.

The Water Princess. Carolina Sanchez was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina on 14th December 1988. She is 1, 72 meters, 59 kilos and size 37 feet. She is 23 years old. She swims so fast that she seems to fly through the water. Her first nickname was “The little Mermaid” because she is one of the best swimmers.

Carolina made her first appearance in an international competition at the age of 10. Her greatest achievement came only four years later when she won four gold medals at the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games. It is well known.

Carolina was Argentina’s number one national hero. And there were special Argentina’s stamps to celebrate her victories in the Olympic Games.

She is happy to discuss his love of music, France, food, computer games and Sarkany clothes. She is a shopaholic. She loves dogs. Her dog is called Blue.

My name is Misa and I'm from Argentina. I like writing and drawing . I live in Buenos Aires and I'm

16 years old. I'm a student at Instituto San Cristobal.

Living a Dream

My name is Misa, I was born in Argentina on 13th February 1992. I'm 19 years old and I play tennis

professionally. My Older sister is a famous tennis player, May. I remember when we were children,

we practised sports but we were better tennis players, so my father decided we had to practise

this sport and May and me loved playing together all the afternoon, after school. I started when I

was 5 years old.

We won a lot of medals in competitions, but I could never beat my sister for she is better.

But my parents are so proud of both.

Now I'm so excited because I'm representing Argentina in Korea. I'm so proud of myself

because I never believed I could be in Korea representing Argentina.

My best friend is a player too, but she is in Japan near Korea. we'll be meeting here in Seúl,

Capital of Korea, for a concert of our Band of K-POP (Korea Pop music) we can't believe this is true!

I am living a dream representing my country in another continent, but the best part is I'll meet my

favorite band.

My name is Sophie Efron. I’m 16 years old and my birthday is on May 10. I’m studying at secondary school. I love music and going out with my friends. I would like to travel around the world.

Who I am. My name is Sophie Efron and I play hockey. I’m 25 years old. I’ve played since I was 15 years old, because my sister plays too. I go to the gym to have a great body.

I love hockey, because when I play it I feel free. It is my passion. The day that do not play hockey, I feel that something is missing... it is as if I had my legs removed! It is my passion, so I would kill and die for it.

I’m 1.70 metres, 50 kilos and size 40 feet. My nickname is lioness, because I am very strong and tough. I am also a little gross haha. I dream of being famous and meeting Luciana Aymar… She is beautiful, a very good and perfect player!

When I was 10 years old I played tennis but I didn’t like it and I was not doing well. I’m proud and I don’t regret choosing hockey.

I am RoCa, a sixteen-year-old teenager who studies at 4th year in San Cristobal Institute. I’ve

always loved animals, and felt a particular connection with Africa, “the black continent”. I wish I

could travel soon to know lots of things about its culture, people and places…

Holidays Between Lions

Dear sol,

I’m writing to you from Ngorongoro Crater in Tanzania -West Africa- under a huge baoab in the

middle of the Savana, in a breathtaking place! I’m with Noelia and Sofia and we are having a great

time. The weather is incredibly hot and dry, but this is the season when the biggest mammals

migration in the world crosses this conservation area to reach water and food.

Yesterday was our first jeep trip through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area- it was amazing! We

saw a few lions and plenty of rhinos. I spent the day taking hundreds of photos of the wildebeest,

zebras and gazelles, who are migrating from Serengeti plains and pass through the crater.

We are going to visit other places near the surroundings, such as the Kilimanjaro Mountain, in the

frontier with Kenya. Furthermore, on Sunday we are going to fly to Zanzibar. It’s a tropical island

on the Indic Ocean. We are going to meet some friends who live there and I think we will stay

there another week, visiting the beaches and historic places. It’ll be fantastic!

The Princess of Tennis

I am Karen. I was born in Buenos Aires on 15th December 1969, I am 41 years old. I love chocolate,

candy, ice cream and chips. I am currently living in Mendoza and studying at the Instituto San

Cristobal, where I met my husband. I started to play tennis when I was three years old.

I am 1,73 metres and 60 kilos. Everybody call me the princess of tennis because I have

never lost a tennis game. I am proud of all I have done.

I like tennis, it is my life but I didn´t like the gym.I practise tennis every day of my life

because it is really relaxing.

I am very competitive and I often go to exotic places to eat after each game. My husband

and my children always come to see me when I play and that gives me more reasons to win. I also

like other sports like figure skating and soccer.

My name is Mia. I’m seventeen years old. I’m studying at secondary school in San Cristóbal Institute. I live with my parents, my little brother and my sister. I love dancing and going out with my friends. I love reading and listening to music too.

Las Porotas’ Team My name is Kiara Roseltev. I’m seventeen years old and I have been a football player since I was ten years old. I play in “Las Porotas’ team”.

Last year, we went to a competition in Colombia and we won it. It was a great experience in my life because I learnt a lot from players from different countries. They were good girls, nice girls. It was a fair competition.

I have played in “Las Porotas’ team” since I was a child, so it’s very important in my life. I love football and I will always love it because it’s an interesting and passionate game. All my family love football too.

My role on the team is to score goals. I’m leading the team. I’m the captain. We are a good team. We work hard to win as many tournaments as possible. But what is important to us isn’t winning, but it is to learn and grow as a team in all the aspects that football presents to us.

At the beggining of this year I had the chance to meet players of the Argentina’s team. It was like a dream come true. I admire them a lot because they make their best in every game they play.

My pen name is Luchi. I am sixteen. I study in San Cristobal Institute. I am in 4th year. I am a very friendly person.

A Dark and Strange Day

Last week I was walking with my best friend -Antonella- by Inclan Street. It was a stormy and cold day. There was nobody in the street. It looked like a dangerous street, only the following block was crowded.

We were talking about school exams; suddenly a strange man appeared in front of us. He was tall and very ugly. `He looked like a criminal´ I thought. At the same time when he appeared I saw a black car stopped in the corner. I was very frightened. Then the man was walking at the end of the street and got into the car.

`What?!´ thought Anto and me. There was a taxi! We were wrong. We thought that we were going to be kidnapped by a strange man, but we weren’t.

When I arrived at home, I talked about the situation with my mum. She started to laugh. Please, you should never walk alone in a dark street. It could be dangerous. Anto and I

were so lucky.

My name is Emma and I was born on May 6 in Buenos Aires, Argentina. I like to write stories and

to publish them in my personal blog so that other persons should read them. When I grow up I

want to be a writer and to publish a book.

My Life: a Dream Come True

Hi! I am Micaela and I am a handball player. I was born on February 1991 in Paris, France. When I

was 7 years old I played handball for the first time in Lion Club and when I was 9 years old I played

my first game for the Lyons and I scored two goals. I won one gold medal 5 years ago in the

Olympics Games.

When I won the gold medal I started to be famous and all the sport TV programs wanted

me to have interviews. I was very happy with what I was living, because it has always been my

dream.

Today my life is very calm; I continue playing handball but not as before. I got married and

I have a two-year-old daughter. I go to the cinema and to the park with her. She also likes handball

and I teach her to play. I wish she also plays handball when she grows up and I enjoy it.

I´m Roberto Planes, I was born in Argentina on the 30th of November in 1994 and I´m the third of

three siblings, Francisco Planes and Lucas Planes. They are 17 and 22 years old. My favourite team

is River Plate! Like any other teenager, I like all kinds of music, I am delighted to ride motorcycles,

play tennis, and enjoy a good book. Furthermore, I´m a tireless figther and self-disciplined.

I have a restaurant with my father.

My restaurant is going to be in Villa del Parque. The decor will have brown walls and light blue

details. The name is going to be “Apple”.

The menu is going to be economic, because I want to secure clients. There will be a lot of different

food: fish, meat, salads, pasta and a lot more. The restaurant is open 24/5 (Mondays to Fridays),

and Saturday and Sundays from 8 am to 12 pm.

He’s nice, he even gave me an autograph, with a photo of the two of us and it was very exciting. I came back to Tokyo today, cause tomorrow there will be a concert of Korean artists. I’m going to be in the first row as always, you will be here, right? It will be awesome! Football and me

My name is Rodrigo Gonzales, I was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina on April 25, 1989. My father, Jose, always meant me to be a swimmer like him, but with my friends I learned to play football, which later became my dream. Now I am 21 years old, I am 1.80 meters tall and I am 80 kilos heavy. My first competition took place at the age of 12. I became champion in 2001 and left football after a tournament that was held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. My friends and I were very pleased with the cup obtained. My dream is to play in the most important clubs in London and Manchester, U.K., Barcelona and Madrid, Spain and to be recognized throughout Argentina. I am currently playing for Boca Juniors, my team since childhood. Now it is first in the ranking in the local tournament and we are right in the cup we are disputing. My biggest idols in soccer are Beckham, Tevez and Maradona. I would love to be like them.

Sea Restaurant.

Four years ago the Cavellari’s brothers Tom and Robert decided to open a restaurant near the sea.

They wanted to do it in that place, because they tought that it was very relaxing for all the clients.

It has a lot of amazing caracteristics like walls for example, instead of regular walls they were

made of glass, so everybody could see the outside like the beach, the sky, the roses, etc. The inside

of the restaurant is also really awesome, beautiful chairs, tables and a really nice decoration. Of

course the main menu always contains a lot of kinds of fish, in the centre of the restaurant there is

a kind of giant fishbowl with a lot of fish, with the order you can select which fish you would like to

eat and it’s also a very good way to see how fresh the food you eat is. At first it hadn’t much

success as Cavellari’s brothers wanted, but then it started to be very crowded. Now if you want to

go, first you have to make a reservation three days before the day you want to go because all the

spaces are full. Luckly it became one of the most important restaurant in town.

My Biography

My name is Jimena Romero and I was born in Buenos Aires on July 27, 1990. My dream has always been to be a singer because I have a right to sing YME Lavoz. I like singing because I feel safe.

Over the time, my mother taught me everything about cooking, recipes and typical secret ingredients.

At the age of 17 I enrolled in a cookery course. Now I have the degree and my mother is preparing our next debut. "The Pandora's box" will be a restaurant for all types of events, dating, birthdays, meetings executive, etcetera. You will have different sections for each occasion or meeting, and there will be a surprise for each customer. Hence the name we gave it.

I just hope everything goes well.

I’m SoMa. I’m 16 years old. I go to San Cristobal school and I live in Boedo. I take drama lessons, because I like it. I have got a sister. She’s 8 years old whose name is Florencia.

Fresh Food at the Port I’m going to open a restaurant . It will be located in the port so people can see the sea. It will be decorated with white tables and red chairs. The walls will be red and there will be pictures.

The menu will have hamburgers, fish, ham and cheese sandwiches, salad, chips, ice cream, milk shake, and basically fast food.

The place will have a playground where children will be able to play. It will have a children’s menu.

The prices will be very accessible and the opening times will be between 8 o’clock and 10 o’clock.

The restaurant will be called “T.G.I Tuesday”. SoMa.

father ,mother and three brothers. My favorite sport is soccer and I am a River Plate fan, the

largest club throughout Argentina

Description of a Restaurant

Fran’s is a really sophisticated and modern restaurant located in Palermo. It was founded by my

father and a friend of his ten years ago. In 2009, I inherited the restaurant because neither my

father nor his friends wanted to keep working in the restaurant. Since 2009 the dishes that are

offered have changed a lot. Now we serve more modern and exotic food than ten years ago. Our

menu is based on exotic dishes of pasta like spaghetti with squid ink. However, we serve other

types of food too. We have excellent recipes based on beef or chicken. There are 32 tables and we

have a capacity for 120 people. We open everyday from 12:00 to 15:00 and from 20:00 to 00:30.at

this moment we have 10 waiters and 25 people working in the kitchen directed by an important

European chef.

My Life. Hi! I’m Brian Parchomczuk, and I´m 17 years old. I have 3 little brothers, so I´m the biggest and oldest. Santino is close to his 5th anniversary; Angelina is 2 and a half years old and also Tiziano, but he has a different mom and he doesn´t live with me. I see him only a few weekends per month. I like sports a lot: soccer, handball, basketball, tennis and a few more. My favourite football team is River Plate, the greatest team of the country. I love food, I really want to be a chef to cook for my family and friends, it´s awesome and very funny! Another thing that I love is music. I can´t live without my music. I really like all kinds of music, but I prefer Rock N´Roll, heavy metal, etc. Right Now I´m listening to Radio/Video, from System of a Down. Last October 5th I went to see them in concert. It was amazing! Also, I went and saw Avenged Sevenfold when they played here last April, I knew every word of every song, it was the best! I have a T-shirt of those concerts, as a souvenir. Let´s talk about school my favourite subjects are English, of course, and P.E. because we play football and volleyball. My name is Keith Richards, I was born in 1995, I am 16 years old. I was born in Buenos Aires Argentina. I study at school San Cristóbal. I love football and rock and roll. I am an only child, the name of my father is Eduardo Richards, and my mother is Eleanor Ponce. My father is a musician, and my mother is a bachelor in philosophy.

Tuxon: The Restaurant of the Century XXV

Tuxon is a restaurant created in 1995 by Keith Richards. The shop is in Rondeau and Sanchez de Loria´ Street, Buenos Aires. This restaurant has a huge combination of food, but mostly vegetarian food, that´s why most people who go there are vegetarian. This is one of the biggest and most important restaurants in the city. All the employees offer a lot of experience in their work. They are trained to give what people need. The restaurant has a great service catering. In the morning people go to have a sweet breakfast, but in the night the restaurant is full of people who go for her dinner and after that, the people of the place offer the clients a funny show. This restaurant is the new fashion of Parque Patricios. What Keith Richards wants is to have the people who go there comfortable. Keith Richards has never changed the way he handles his business and still he is a successful guy. So, don´t wait anymore! Go and know the new Tuxon restaurant

I am Caroline and I am 20 years old. I live in Buenos Aires but I was born in New York. I like

listening to music. I have a band with my best friend Merry, where I am the principal singer and

the guitarist. With my band I would like to know the whole world.

Holidays in Jamaica

Hello! Mom, Dad, I miss you so much. I am having a great time here. Yesterday I went swimming

all day. It was fantastic. The food is exotic and delicious here. I love Jamaica! It is beautiful, exotic,

tropical and the people are friendly with me.

Last Monday I went to Jamaica’s Zoo. It was great. There are a lot of animals; I could touch a big

lion. It was a beautiful experience. After I visited the zoo I went to a disco, where I dance all night

and I met a lot of fun people.

Tomorrow I am going to a spa in the Hilton Hotel. I wish it will be comfortable. I promise to call

you soon and when I come back I will bring you a tropical present to Jamaica.

My name is Soledad. I live in Buenos Aires. I live with my family. I've studied economics at UBA. Now I have opened my new restaurant at the center of the city. This is my dream.

PART OF THE COUNTRY JUST IN THE MIDDLE OF THE CITY

I’m going to open a new restaurant in the city, which is going to be called “El Establo”. The restaurant will have country decoration. The tables will be made of wood as the chairs. The outside and inside walls will have red brick fronts. The environment is going to look like a stable, with pictures of horses, horse shoes and the bar will have the statue of a horse. The menu will have a big variety of meat. The main plate will be the “argentine asado”, this plate will be served with salads or French fries. As deserts there will be chocolate Ice-cream and fruit salad. Prices will be considerable, except for some kinds of meat, which will have different prices according to the one you want.

The restaurant will be in the center of the city, so I think it is going to be very popular, and it is going to be attractive because of the country decoration.

Follow the Cow

I welcome you to my restaurant "Follow the Cow", my name is Juan Listorti, I was born in Buenos

Aires, Argentina. My dream has always been to have my own restaurant and with the help of my

parents I did it. It was always my dream because my grandfather had a restaurant which I liked. I

liked the idea of seeing people eating the typical foods of my grandfather. My restaurant has

decorated walls in apple green and with famous people´s pictures. The chairs and tables have

tablecloths in white and blue. Our recommendation for the menu in the morning is coffee and

croissants, coffee with milk and natural orange juice.

For lunch/ supper: meat (beef, pork, hamburger, etc.), salad (tomato and lettuce) potato /

French fries, pasta and fish.

The location is in Belgrano. The opening time in the morning is at eight o’clock and the

price is $40 the cutlery. It closes at twelve o'clock. You can celebrate birthdays and events. Come
