1. One kind of mental model for the computer is the naïve model. A naïve mental model in the context of computer programming is that a computer is an intelligent system. This model is naïve because giving directions to a computer is like giving directions to a human being.

2. One kind of mental model for the computer is the naïve model. According to van Merriënboer (1997), "A naïve mental model in the context of computer programming is that a computer is an intelligent system, and that giving directions to a computer is like giving directions to a human being" (p. 145).

"For some time -- for three or four years -- rumors and reports of Blueskin's doings in the West Indies and off the Carolinas had been brought in now and then by sea captains. There was no more cruel, bloody, desperate, devilish pirate than he in all those pirate-infested waters. All kinds of wild and bloody stories were current concerning him, but it never occurred to the good folk of Lewes that such stories were some time to be a part of their own history (Pyle 151)."

The philosophical position known as constructivism views knowledge as a human construction. The various perspectives within constructivism are based on the premise that knowledge is not part of an objective, external reality that is separate from the individual. Instead, human knowledge, whether the bodies of content in public disciplines (such as mathematics or sociology) or knowledge of the individual learner; is a human construction. References:Gredler, M. E. (2001). Learning and instruction: Theory into practice (4th Ed.). Upper Saddle River, NJ: Prentice-Hall.
Does knowledge exist outside of, or separate from, the individual who knows? Can students trick Turnitin? Some students believe that they can “beat” Turnitin by
employing various tactics. Instructors should rest assured that these tactics do not work as our algorithms take such “tricks” into account. In addition, the best practice for ensuring that students are not able to “beat the system” is to review all Originality Reports – regardless of the percentage shown as the Similarity Index. Instructors who look at the Originality Reports will be able to tell if something untoward has occurred.

There is a design methodology called rapid prototyping, which has been used successfully in software engineering. Given similarities between software design and instructional design, we argue that rapid prototyping is a viable method for instructional design, especially for computer-based instruction. The study of learning derives from essentially two sources. Because learning involves the acquisition of knowledge, the first concerns the nature of knowledge and how we come to know things.... The second source in which modern learning theory is rooted concerns the nature and representation of mental life. References:Driscoll, M. P. (2000). Psychology of learning for instruction (2nd Ed.). Needham Heights, MA: Allyn & Bacon.

Peer Review and Self Assessment The author himself is the best judge of his own
performance; none has so deeply meditated on the subject; none is so sincerely interested in the event. - Edward Gibbon ‘Memoirs of my Life’ (1796)
I never teach my pupils; I only attempt to provide the conditions in which they can learn. - Albert Einstein
The only kind of learning which significantly influences behavior is self-discovered or self-appropriated learning - truth that has been assimilated in experience. - Carl Rogers
I cannot teach anybody anything, I can only make them think - Socrates
Personally, I am always ready to learn, although I do not always like being taught. - Winston Churchill
Peer Review and Self Assessment 2 systems available – Blackboard – Turnitin Typically used at draft stage Students provided with the marking criteria Forced to provide feedback on set number of
papers against the criteria May or may not include their own paper Given a mark for participating and/or quality of
feedback Improves the markers final submission as the
criteria against which they will be marked are embedded
