Celebrated on November 1st, the Christian holiday of All Saint's Day honors and recognizes all of the saints of the Christian church, many of which were martyrs. The church sets this day aside to celebrate over 10,000 recognized saints. We will discuss the top ten most influential Saints such as: The Apostle Paul, Mother Teresa, St. Patrick and others. Short video excepts will be show. If you have a saint you would like us to discuss in this class, please see Christine prior to the class date.

December - "Georges Seurat" - The artist Georges Seurat is best known for originating the Pointillist method of painting, using small dot-like strokes of color in works such as his famous painting, "A Sunday on La Grande Jatte." The artist Georges Seurat was born on December 2, 1859, in Paris, France. After training at the École des Beaux-Arts, he broke free of tradition. Taking his technique a step beyond Impressionism, he painted with small strokes of pure color that seem to blend when viewed from a distance. Seurat's career was cut short when he died of illness on March 29, 1891, in Paris. Source: Bio.com

September - "Grandma Moses" - Anna Mary Robertson, also known as "Grandma Moses," became widely famous for her nostalgic paintings depicting rural American life. Born in 1860, artist Grandma Moses spent decades living the rural, agricultural life that she would later feature in her paintings. She only began devoting herself to art when she was in her seventies. In 1938, an art collector discovered her work. Completely self-taught, Moses soon became famous for her images of country life. October - "Caravaggio" - Michelangelo Merisi Di Caravaggio (1571-1610) was the most influential and controversial Italian painter in the 17th century. His paintings were often shockingly realistic, and he made dramatic use of light and shade. HIs life was dramatic too - he killed a man and spent the rest of his life on the run. Source: Bio.com

November - "Picasso" - One of Christine's favorite artists is the legendary Pablo Picasso. Picasso is one of the greatest and most influential artists of the 20th century, as well as the co-creator of Cubism. A Spanish expatriate painter, sculptor, printmaker, ceramicist and stage designer, Picasso was considered radical in his work. During the reign of Emperor Constantine, Christianity enjoyed protection from persecution. From this moment on, we recognize the influence of Roman culture on early Christianity. This lecture follows the history of Christian architecture from early classical basilicas to resplendent Gothic cathedrals. We also pause to admire medieval stained-glass windows, tapestries and illuminated manuscripts.

Is there Jewish art? Yes, there is. Jewish art adores temples and synagogues, beginning with the instructions in the Hebrew Bible for the mishkan, the tent/tabernacle constructed to protect the Holy Covenant. We begin with ancient texts and imagined depictions of Solomon’s Temple. Then we tour the world to follow the history of synagogues, beginning with examples in antiquity and ending with famous modern temples in our Westchester area.

Mosques reflect the cultural context of the country and do not permit depictions of humans within its walls. Therefore, we will first study the structure of the mosque and then follow its history by viewing the most magnificent examples located all over the world. We will study secular images in Persian manuscripts that narrate the legendary stories about kings, heroes and supernatural beings, carried down through the ages since medieval times.

As holiday season decorations start to appear everywhere, we stop to consider: Where did these ideas come from? Did people always exchange gifts for Christmas and Hanukah? Who “invented” the fat and jolly Santa Claus? What is a “hanukiah”? Photos of celebrations and popular holiday items provide a light-hearted look at “giving and getting” on this St. Nicholas Day.

Meditation can wipe away the day's stress, bringing with it inner peace. See how you can easily learn to practice meditation whenever you need it most. Learn about the different types of meditation and the elements of meditation. A quick lecture will start this class and then we will put what we have learned to use.

The most overlooked and arguably, the most important word in health is “balance”. Better body balance makes it easier to move and helps prevent injury. But it’s a “use it or lose it” kind of thing, which means it’s important to practice balance at all ages. Meet Jeff Ciolino, Occupational Therapist and Balance Specialist! Residents go through his obstacle course of walking backwards, stepping on certain blocks, walking over blocks, all while having fun and building up their strength for improved balance. Music is played, people clap along to encourage one another, and different stretches are taught throughout the class. Come join us for this fun and exciting class!

The cajo’n drum box is the most widely used Afro-Peruvian musical instrument since the late 18th Century. Slaves of the west and central African origin in the Americas are considered to be the source of the cajo’n drum. The “drum box” is played by the drummer sitting atop the box and striking the front and rear faces with hands, fingers, or sometimes various implements such as brushes, mallets, or sticks. We will introduce the cajo’n in our drum circle along with new additional instruments to create new music. Please join in making some new music plus there may be a few surprises along the way!

Every month we will have a different health topic to discuss that various health professionals will be leading. These informative classes will also have literature and some will have videos that will be shown.

September - "Onam" - Onam is the biggest festival in the Indian state of Kerala. Onam Festival falls during the Malayali month of Chingam (Aug - Sep) and marks the homecoming of legendary King Mahabali. Carnival of Onam lasts for ten days and brings out the best of Kerala culture and tradition.

November - "Benefits of Exercise" - Faculty: Roy Milom - Like most people, you've probably heard that physical activity and exercise are good for you. In fact, being physically active on a regular basis is one of the healthiest things you can do for yourself. Studies have shown that exercise provides many health benefits and that older adults can gain a lot by staying physically active. Even moderate exercise and physical activity can improve the health of people who are frail or who have diseases that accompany aging. Join Roy as he discusses the benefits of exercise as we age.

December - "Come In From The Cold" - Faculty: Reghan Giannelli Cold weather can pose serious health hazards to older adults. Falls and other accidents, hypothermia and depression are more common as the temperature drops. The key to safety is prevention. Join in as Reghan reviews simple tips to ensure a safe season.

October - "Importance of Handwashing" - Faculty: Barbara Mullins, R.N. - Handwashing is like a "do-it-yourself" vaccine—it involves five simple and effective steps (Wet, Lather, Scrub, Rinse, Dry) you can take to reduce the spread of diarrheal and respiratory illness so you can stay healthy. Regular handwashing, particularly before and after certain activities, is one of the best ways to remove germs, avoid getting sick, and prevent the spread of germs to others. It's quick, it's simple, and it can keep us all from getting sick. Handwashing is a win for everyone, except the germs. Learn the proper way to hand wash....you wont believe your eyes, as we show you that you might be doing it all wrong!

September - "Flu Season Is Upon Us: The Benefits of Vaccinations" - Faculty: Daniel Molino, Owner of Grassy Sprain Pharmacy - Vaccination has greatly reduced the burden of infectious diseases. The increased vulnerability to infection of the elderly makes them a particularly important target population for vaccination. Join Mr. Molino as he discusses how important vaccinations are to our health.

The Month of October: "The History of New York City ~ Part 2" - A comprehensive history of New York City from colonial times to the present. Join Prudence as she takes us back in time and then brings us through what New York has become today. Video clips and excepts from historical books will be shown throughout each class.

The Month of December: "The Wright Brothers" - Wilbur and Orville Wright were American inventors and pioneers of aviation. In 1903 the Wright brothers achieved the first powered, sustained and controlled airplane flight; they surpassed their own milestone two years later when they built and flew the first fully practical airplane. Join Prudence as she talks about the history of the Wright Brothers and the invention of the airplane.

October - "Diwali/Lakshami Puja" - Lakshmi puja is one of the important rituals performed during the festival of Diwali. This ritual is performed to invite Goddess Lakshmi at home. Prayers are offered to the Goddess, so that the New Year (Hindu New Year) is filled with peace, wealth and prosperity. How to do Diwali Puja describes step by step instructions to perform a simple Diwali puja process at home, come learn how with Chandra!

November - "Nehru Jayanti" - Jawaharlal Nehru was the first Prime Minister of India and a central figure in Indian politics for much of the 20th century. He emerged as the paramount leader of the Indian independence movement under the tutelage of Mahatma Gandhi and ruled India from its establishment as an independent nation in 1947 until his death in office in 1964. Nehru is considered to be the architect of the modern Indian nation-state: a sovereign, socialist, secular, and democratic republic. Learn more about this spiritual man and his life and career.

December - "Gita Jayanti" - The Bhagavad Gita is considered the most important and influential Hindu scripture for its philosophical, practical, political, psychological and spiritual value. Bhagavad Gita Jayanti, or simply Gita Jayanti, marks the birth of this holy book. (about.com)

The Month of November: "The Life of Abraham Lincoln" - Lincoln was born on February 12, 1809, in a one-room log cabin in Hardin County, Kentucky; his family moved to southern Indiana in 1816. Later in life, he became a self-taught Illinois lawyer and legislator with a reputation as an eloquent opponent of slavery. He shocked many when he overcame several more prominent contenders to win the Republican Party’s nomination for president in 1860. Carol Burnett is a beloved comedian and actress who had a long-running sketch and variety show, 'The Carol Burnett Show,' in the 1960s and '70s. In 1967 she received her own comedy-variety program, called The Carol Burnett Show. She also appeared in a number of feature films, and on Broadway. She published her autobiography, One More Time in 1986.

John Wayne portrayed the quintessential American hero on the big screen. This Emmy Award-winning 1970 television special shows that he wasn't just playing a role as he hosts an uplifting review of the major moments in American history. This star-spangled salute includes musical numbers by Johnny Cash, Leslie Uggams and others, plus sketches with Dean Martin, Bing Crosby, Lucille Ball, Lorne Greene, Phyllis Diller, Michael Landon and more.

The extraordinary, easy-listening crooning talents of Andy Williams were first unveiled when he was 8 years old and inducted into the Williams Brothers Quartet as its youngest member. Later in life, he debuted his own TV variety series on NBC, The Andy Williams Show. The show won three Emmy Awards and lasted until 1971, continuing into the 1990s as an annual Christmas special featuring Williams's entire family.

Tuckahoe was put on the map in the early 19th century by the discovery that it was sitting on a rich vein of brilliant white marble. Tuckahoe is centrally located between Manhattan and White Plains and serves commuters with two Train Stations, the Crestwood Station and the Tuckahoe Station, located at either ends of our Village. Being less than one square mile in size gives residents the opportunity to walk to most of our businesses and excellent restaurants. Members of The Historical Society will come speak about the history of this great town we live in.

The game was thought up by the Grey Family aboard the SS Suevic in the 1910s. Join Dorothy as she teaches us how to play this fun game!

Each Wednesday will showcase 2 magicians from the Society of American Magicians from the Westchester Chapter. Mexican Train Dominoes, also known simply as Trains, is a variation of the game dominoes. The object of the game is for a player to play all the dominoes from his or her hand onto one or more chains, or "trains", emanating from a central hub or "station". The game's most popular name comes from a special optional train that belongs to all players.

The community discussion group is facilitated by Mercy College students and a faculty supervisor. The objectives of this group are to enable participants to maintain communicative function in a variety of domains and to adapt to the losses encountered in the normal aging or atypical aging process and to promote transgenerational engagement. All participants in the community discussion group are encouraged to: recognize the value, wisdom, experience, and knowledge of each other’s life experiences; share opinions with respect; listen to the other generation’s sharing; and learn from each other without bias.

Marty wants to bring back to life a remarkable time, place and people. It will never be duplicated unless you lived through it. What survives of the Borscht Belt is the memory. Marty details the history of The Borscht Belt. Some of the sites that Marty will discuss are the following: Old Route 17, Red Apple Rest, Bungalow Colonies. Marty will talk about the following hotels: Grossingers, Concord and kutcher's. Marty will conduct a Simon Sez routine with the group. Just about all comedians back then got their start in the Catskills. Marty will talk about the following comedians: Red Buttons, George Burns, Rodney Dangerfield, Sid Caesar, Henny Youngman, and Milton Berle. What caused the decline of The Borscht Belt will be discussed.

The Ziegfeld Follies ran from 1907 to 1931. Florenz Ziegfeld glorified the American girl and made her a symbol of the modern independent woman. Florenz Ziegfeld was instrumental in bringing women to the center of society. The Ziegfeld Girl became an American Institution. Marty will talk about the following individuals: Irving Berlin, Anna Held, Justine Johnston, Ann Pennington, Peggy Hopkins Joyce, Fanny Brice, Joseph Urban and Ruth Etting. The following songs will be a part of the lecture: My Man, Second Hand Rose, and A Pretty Girl is Like a Melody.

Explore the neighborhood where New York began! Marty will discuss the former site of the Dutch Fort Amsterdam. The lecture will span 400 years of New York City history. From the original Dutch settlement and trading outpost at Bowling Green, to the peaceful takeover of the British in 1664, to the world financial capital of today, this lecture has it all. Marty will discuss the history of Lower Manhattan with the architecture, people and events that power “Wall Street”. Some of the additional sites that Marty will touch upon are Trinity Church, Federal Hall, the New-York Stock Exchange, sites associated with 18th century slave uprisings, Alexander Hamilton, George Washington, JP Morgan.

This class is for a great cause. Have you ever wanted to receive a beautifully handmade card in the mail? The troops who are oversees sometimes don't receive mail for weeks. Come and create cards to send to the troops and put a smile on their faces. Be creative and make someone else happy in this class.

Oktoberfest, the world's largest beer festival, is held annually in Munich, Germany. It is known as much for its traditional folk music as it is for its beer drinking. The folk festival has given its name to similar festivals worldwide that are at least in part modeled after the original Bavarian Oktoberfest. The Oktoberfest tradition started in 1810 to celebrate the October 12th marriage of Bavarian Crown Prince Ludwig to the Saxon-Hildburghausen Princess Therese. The festival was eventually prolonged and moved ahead to September to allow for better weather conditions. Today, the last day of the festival is the first Sunday in October. Oktoberfest celebration with Lee's Musicians will be held on Friday, September 23rd at 3:30 pm in the AS and will follow with an Oktoberfest themed diner served in the main dining room.

There are many different ways to perfect your pool skills. In this class, discover some basic tips to enhance your game! How billiards came to America has not been positively established. In 1600, the game of billiards was familiar enough to the public that Shakespeare mentioned it in "Antony and Cleopatra". Most likely, it was brought over by Dutch and English settlers. Nevertheless, the game did spread throughout the Colonies and even George Washington was reported to have won a match in 1748!

In this workshop we will discover the joys of writing poetry. We will explore creating poems by capturing experiences from memories, the world around us, dreams. Using language, artwork, objects and other fun tools, we will find our way into the exciting work of writing. You will be surprised at how natural poetry is to all of us, like song. We will discuss some of the unexplained mysteries of the world. Is there a Big Foot roaming the earth? What is Area 51 all about? Is there compelling evidence to say that the Loch Ness Monster once, or still does exist? Let's try to offer some rational explanations for these so-called mysteries as we learn more about them, including the direct evidence that debunks some of them. If you have any interesting unexplained mysteries that you would like us to research, please speak to anyone in the Community Life Dept. and let them know.

Although most anyone can be a target of fraud and identity theft, senior identity theft is on the rise. There are a number of things that make older Americans more likely to be targets — and victims — of fraud and identity theft. The Tuckahoe Police Department will give tips and advice to the audience on scams that target the elderly, such as the IRS scam, arrest warrant scam, or red-light scam in which a person pretending to represent the police department will call and say the victim was caught on camera running a red light and must pay a fine. Other common scams include the mortgage and home repair scams or solicitation phone calls or emails asking for money for various reasons. A common scam going around is the PC hoax in which the victim receives a call telling them they have a Microsoft virus on their computer and they must give the caller their password. Learn what scammers are doing to target you, and what steps you can take to help protect yourself from becoming a victim.

The most overlooked and arguably, the most important word in health is “balance”. Better body balance makes it easier to move and helps prevent injury. But it’s a “use it or lose it” kind of thing, which means it’s important to practice balance at all ages. Meet Jeff Ciolino, Occupational Therapist and Balance Specialist! Residents go through his obstacle course of walking backwards, stepping on certain blocks, walking over blocks, all while having fun and building up their strength for improved balance. Music is played, people clap along to encourage one another, and different stretches are taught throughout the class. Come join us for this fun and exciting class!

Learn how to create beautiful bracelets that we will be making for a local children's hospital. At the end of the year, the group will take a field trip to hand deliver the finished products to the children. A class that is not only fun and social...but extremely rewarding!

December - "Georges Seurat" - The artist Georges Seurat is best known for originating the Pointillist method of painting, using small dot-like strokes of color in works such as his famous painting, "A Sunday on La Grande Jatte." The artist Georges Seurat was born on December 2, 1859, in Paris, France. After training at the École des Beaux-Arts, he broke free of tradition. Taking his technique a step beyond Impressionism, he painted with small strokes of pure color that seem to blend when viewed from a distance. As students and residents learn from each other and share there ideas and attitudes regarding a wide arrange of worldly subjects.

Core exercises are about more than just strengthening your abdominal muscles; they also strengthen your hips, back and all muscles in the midsection of the body. The cajo’n drum box is the most widely used Afro-Peruvian musical instrument since the late 18th Century. Slaves of the west and central African origin in the Americas are considered to be the source of the cajo’n drum. The “drum box” is played by the drummer sitting atop the box and striking the front and rear faces with hands, fingers, or sometimes various implements such as brushes, mallets, or sticks. We will introduce the cajo’n in our drum circle along with new additional instruments to create new music. Please join in making some new music plus there may be a few surprises along the way!

October - "Importance of Handwashing" - Faculty: Barbara Mullins, R.N. - Handwashing is like a "do-it-yourself" vaccine—it involves five simple and effective steps (Wet, Lather, Scrub, Rinse, Dry) you can take to reduce the spread of diarrheal and respiratory illness so you can stay healthy. Regular handwashing, particularly before and after certain activities, is one of the best ways to remove germs, avoid getting sick, and prevent the spread of germs to others. It's quick, it's simple, and it can keep us all from getting sick. Handwashing is a win for everyone, except the germs. Learn the proper way to hand wash....you wont believe your eyes, as we show you that you might be doing it all wrong!

November - "Benefits of Exercise" - Faculty: Reghan Giannelli - Like most people, you've probably heard that physical activity and exercise are good for you. In fact, being physically active on a regular basis is one of the healthiest things you can do for yourself. Studies have shown that exercise provides many health benefits and that older adults can gain a lot by staying physically active. Even moderate exercise and physical activity can improve the health of people who are frail or who have diseases that accompany aging. Join Roy as he discusses the benefits of exercise as we age.

December - "Come In From The Cold" - Faculty: Reghan Giannelli - Cold weather can pose serious health hazards to older adults. Falls and other accidents, hypothermia and depression are more common as the temperature drops. The key to safety is prevention. Join in as Reghan reviews simple tips to ensure a safe season.

September - "Flu Season" - Faculty: Reghan Giannelli - Vaccination has greatly reduced the burden of infectious diseases. The increased vulnerability to infection of the elderly makes them a particularly important target population for vaccination. Join Mr. Molino as he discusses how important vaccinations are to our health.

We want to decorate The Fountains in the spirit of Halloween. We have to be prepared for the holidays. There are a lot of Halloween decorations but pumpkins can be the main decor if designed right. Learn different techniques to pumpkin decorating!

Denese and Maria will discuss the importance of massaging pressure points to relieve stress, pain, headaches and much more in our bodies. Did you know that there are 40 or more pressure points in your hands alone?! Join us as we discuss how to do self treatment and we will provide short massages to a limited amount of participants in the class.

Oktoberfest, the world's largest beer festival, is held annually in Munich, Germany. It is known as much for its traditional folk music as it is for its beer drinking. The folk festival has given its name to similar festivals worldwide that are at least in part modeled after the original Bavarian Oktoberfest. The Oktoberfest tradition started in 1810 to celebrate the October 12th marriage of Bavarian Crown Prince Ludwig to the Saxon-Hildburghausen Princess Therese. The festival was eventually prolonged and moved ahead to September to allow for better weather conditions. Today, the last day of the festival is the first Sunday in October. An Oktoberfest themed diner served in the dining room on Friday, October 23rd. Oktoberfest celebration with Richard Spear will be held on Saturday, September 24th at 2:00 pm in the AS.

Take a nostalgic trip through the various decades. Learn and discuss events from times gone by. Share your memories with others as you travel back into the 1920's to the 1990's reliving history. Also test your skills with trivia questions from these time periods.

We will discuss some of the unexplained mysteries of the world. Is there a Big Foot roaming the earth? What is Area 51 all about? Is there compelling evidence to say that the Loch Ness Monster once, or still does exist? Let's try to offer some rational explanations for these so-called mysteries as we learn more about them, including the direct evidence that debunks some of them.

In Hebrew, Rosh Hashanah means, literally, "head of the year" or "first of the year". When most people hear the term New Year they think of partying and celebrating however, the Jewish New Year is a time to begin introspection, looking back at the mistakes of the past year and planning the changes to make in the new year. Learn more about this holy holiday and learn from some of your peers, the traditions they had on this day.

We will the learn about the culture, traditions and people of that destination. At the end of each class, residents will decide where they would like to travel to for the next month. Bruce, Mark Professor Mark Bruce teaches mass communication topics including Media Relations and Current Events as well as Public Opinion Dynamics/Research at Pace University, Iona College and Northeastern University in Boston. Previously, Professor Bruce taught at New York University. Professor Bruce is an avid news observer who never tires of analyzing current events and their effects on public opinion with his graduate students and senior seminar attendees. He believes that an inquisitive, informed electorate is the foundation for democracy. Capulli, Vincent - Resident “Vinny” was born in Italy and grew up in Italy and then moved to Eastchester. He met his wife Clara, who also lives at The Fountains at RiverVue and they have been happily married for 55 years this past May. Vinny greatly enjoys playing billiards with the guys and now wants to teach some of his techniques. Ciolino, Jeff - OTR Jeff has been an Occupational Therapist and fitness trainer for 21 years. He grew up on eastern Long Island and currently lives in East Quogue NY. Jeff graduated from Syracuse University in 1993 for Occupational Therapy. He has owned Lifelong Therapeutics for 13 years where he and his team of PTs, OTs and fitness trainers have focused specifically on building strength, confidence, safety and Independence in older adults. Jeff’s mission is to inspire people, show them that they are capable of greater ability, and help them achieve it. Jeff’s patients will know that their success is of the greatest importance to him and that they will accomplish great things together and have fun doing it.

Coale, Skipwith Skipwith is a writer and long-time creator and facilitator of poetry and multi-media workshops. She worked for many years at The Graham School in Hastings-on-Hudson, a treatment center for at-risk youth. Her articles have appeared in a variety of shelter magazines, including ‘Food & Wine’.

Crolius, Ross - Bass Ross recently retired from the Metropolitan Opera after spending twenty-five years with the company as a full-time chorister. During that time he performed an average of 180 performances each season in operas ranging from Handel to Philip Glass, singing in 6 different languages. He performed in nearly 50 “Live from the Met” telecasts as well as singing in a half dozen opera recordings under the direction of Maestro James Levine. During his career at the Met, Ross was chosen to perform a number of small solo roles in many operas including Rigoletto, IL Trovatore, I Pagliacci, La Boheme and Der Rosenkavalier. Despite the demands of his rigorous Met schedule, Mr. Crolius continued to remain active as a concert soloist and recitalist in the New York area. An avid enthusiast of small vocal ensemble singing, Ross founded and managed a male vocal quartet called Songfellows that was originally formed from the ranks of the Met chorus. The group has performed from Maine to Maryland singing a broad range of purposefully non operatic repertoire. Mr. Crolius’ prior musical background includes two seasons performing with the Gregg Smith Singers, a three year enlistment in the Soldiers Chorus of the U.S. Army Field Band, and degrees from the Peabody Conservatory of Music and the Eastman School of Music. Since his retirement from the Met, Ross has shifted his focus to teaching voice and lecturing about opera. As a teacher, he has recently been added to the voice faculty at the Mozartina Conservatory in Tarrytown, NY. As an opera lecturer, Ross keeps very busy presenting opera talks primarily at senior residences throughout the local region. Mr. Crolius resides in Westchester County with his wife Nancy, also a former Met Opera chorister.

Delaney, Janettina Janettina has a love for being creative. She has been part of the faculty of Watermark University since it first started. She teaches jewelry making and flower arranging and is loved by all that take her class. Gaskin, Michael Mr. Gaskin is a retired music teacher. He has been playing the piano and singing for over thirty years. He greatly enjoys lecturing about the Hollywood Greats and enjoys coming to The Fountains to do so, once a month, on the first Saturday of every month at 10:30 am. Gerke, Roy Roy is the son-in-law of Fountains residents Tom and Peg McQuillan. He hails from the great state of Missouri where he grew up in the small, rural town of Tipton. Roy is an engineer and an attorney but is passionate about farm to table gardening. He has extensive gardens in NY and VT that he shares with family, friends and neighbors. In addition, Roy has studied farmstead cheese making with master artisanal cheese makers in Vermont and NY. Gersh-Nesic, Beth Beth Susan Gersh-Nesic, Ph.D., is the director of the New York Arts Exchange, an arts education service which offers tours, lectures and workshops in various venues, including museums, galleries, artists' studios and arts organizations. Beth has taught art history at Purchase College since 1997 and Mercy College since 1995. She also teaches translation from French to English at Manhattanville College. In the past, Beth taught at New York University, Simmons College, Rhode Island College and Hartwick College. Beth has lectured and led art tours through the New York Arts Exchange since 2003. Beth earned her doctorate in art history from the City University of New York's Graduate Center and her MA and BA from Binghamton University. Her master's thesis explored rhetorical gesture in 17th century Dutch portraiture. Her specialty is modern and contemporary art, specifically Pablo Picasso, Cubism and works by women artists. She has published two books and several essays on the noted art critic and poet André Salmon (best known as an intimate friend of Pablo Picasso and his “gang”). Beth continues to write about and translate Salmon's art criticism in collaboration with Jacqueline Gojard, Professor Emeritus, University of Paris (Sorbonne III) and executor of André Salmon's literary estate. You may read their work at the André Salmon website. She also writes for the online travel magazine Bonjour Paris. Gershman, Shirley - Resident In High School, Shirley had a music teacher named Ms. Butler. Shirley always sat in the front row and the teacher noticed her interest in the class and so Ms. Butler paid for her voice lessons. At her graduation, Shirley sang a song from Carmine for the graduation ceremony. After graduation, Shirley became a member of a group called "Curtain Callers". She later was a member of the USO and sang in all the camps in the Baltimore Area. When Shirley married and had children, her children became her priority and she gave up show business but continued to perform for weddings and Bat Mitzvahs. She passed on her love of music to her children. They spent many of their family trips singing in the car. It is a fond memory of hers to this day. Hampton, Jerome Jerome Hampton is a leading Professional Fitness expert, inclusive of all lifespan developmental stages. Jerome is the President and CEO of Fitnes 4 Life, LLC which he founded in 2003. Jerome holds a bachelors degree in Business Science from IONA College, New Rochelle, NY and a certification from the National Exercise & Sports Trainers Association (NESTA). Jerome is an alumni of Iona College in New Rochelle, New York. He is certified in CPR/First Aid by the American Heart Association. He has appeared on the Montel Williams Show on a panel discussing how to get in shape.

Mercy College Participating Students Students in the Master of Science Program in Communication Disorders participate in this clinical educational experience in their first year of graduate school, while they are completing their coursework. Clinical Educators The two clinical educators who supervise this experience are speech-language pathologists who hold New York State licensure and ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC). They are faculty members who conduct this activity as part of their in-house clinical supervision duties. They accompany the students to the site and provide 100% supervision. McQuillan, Beth Beth is the daughter of Fountains residents Tom and Peg McQuillan. She is married to Roy Gerke and they have two children, Elizabeth and Thomas. Beth recently retired from the Colgate-Palmolive Company. At Colgate she was an attorney practicing chiefly in the area of domestic and international commercial law. In her position she traveled extensively and had additional responsibility for management of Colgate’s global legal function. Beth and her family love Italy, especially Italian food! Milite, Prudence Prudence used to volunteer at The Fountains from 2005 to 2012. She took a break to focus more on her career but missed it so much, she is back with us! Prudence volunteers every Monday and runs a discussion/lecture on different historical people of the past as well as different historical events. We are happy Prudence has decided to volunteer here at The Fountains again and look forward to her upcoming classes. Militscher, Marilyn As a practicing artist and retired high school and college art teacher, Marilyn has worked in all forms of art. She has taught beginners as well as more experienced artists. Marilyn has the ability to assess people interested in art, helping them achieve what they would like to accomplish in their artistic pursuits or their personal growth as artists. Pierot, Sybil, Resident Sybil has been a faculty member since the beginning. Her love of games brought her to want to teach others. She has recently started teaching “13” a card game, which is now a big hit! Sybil has also lectured on Sailing and Horseback riding, two other great loves of hers. She volunteers quite a bit for the Community Life Department, whether it’s calling Bingo or dealing Poker, she is always willing to help! Renzin, Sue Sue loves to dance and especially loves Bellydancing. Her bellydancer name is Shayna, where she gets into character of a dancer from a foreign country. Schneit, Marty Marty Schneit, born and bred New Yorker and Historian. A licensed New York City Tour guide. Marty has lectured at the New York Public Library, National Council of Jewish Women, JCC, The 92nd Street Y. The Health Outreach Program of New York Presbyterian Hospital. The Jewish Braille Institute has recorded Marty’s lectures for their audio magazine and lecture series. He typifies pride and passion for the City of New York. Tenore, Roseann Roseann is a certified aerobics instructor who has been holding classes in many other senior living communities and she loves it. She also holds a Masters degree in Music Therapy which she received from NYU in 1981 and also provides music therapy in many communities as well as here in our Gardens community. Roseann lives in Yonkers with her two children.
