TASK 8.1 Analysis and assessment of access potential of LIST-11 RIs (M1-M18)

❖ Series of 5 Kickoff meetings with LIST-11 Representatives conducted between April and June 2020 (achieved)

Achievements:▪ Replacing the WP live Kickoff meetings, foreseen in April 2020 (cancelled due to Covid-19 outbreak);▪ Collecting general information about LIST-11 RIs structure and organization, field of research and main tools,

current access mode.▪ Organizing regular meetings with representatives of the LIST-11 RIs: bilateral meetings; videoconference on

December 2020; videoconference May 2021 (tbc).

❖ Survey on analysis and assessment of access potential (ongoing)

Achievements:

▪ Collecting detailed information about access policies, selection process, international cooperation and userspolicies;

▪ Collecting expectations about the participation in CREMLINplus TNA programme;▪ Guiding LIST-11 representatives through a self-assessment excercise about their readiness to provide access to EU

researchers (relative opportunities, challenges and risks).

D8.1: report on the survey on the potential of access to Russian RIs – due in M18 (July 2021)

TASK 8.1 Analysis and assessment of access potential of LIST-11 RIs (M1-M18)

❖ Assessment of the interest of EU researchers for Russian RIs (ongoing)

Achievements (ongoing):• Estimate the level of interest of the European scientific communities by contacting corresponding ESFRI RIs;• Identify the possible pulling factors, opportunities, risks and challenges related to Russian RIs;• Collect information about EU access models and develop a better understanding of how EU RIs organized their TNA

policies;• Create contact list of potential users in view of the CREMLINplus TNA Call;• Conduct video-interviews with EU top Managers from European RIs (currently done already with life sciences

community: INFRAFRONTIER, INSTRUCT, OPENSCREEN and LifeWatch);• Develop interview guidelines.

Preliminary outcomes (ongoing):• Confirmed strong interest by European RIs;• Confirmed willingness to enhance cooperation with Russian RIs: e.g. exchange of knowledge via mutual visits and

cooperation on scientific topics;

• Identified first set of challenges:o collect the appropriate set of information from LIST-11 RIs => to better exchange with EU expertso identify the appropriate European user communities => in view of the TNA call.

TASK 8.1 Analysis and assessment of access potential of LIST-11 RIs (M1-M18)

Next steps:

▪ Finalize the survey on analysis and assessment of access potential (1 RIs remains);▪ Prepare the relative report (D 8.1 due in M18 – July 2021);▪ Finalize Interviews with the managers of EU RIs working in for each of the scientific fields covered by LIST-11;▪ Develop the dissemination plan for the CREMLINplus TNA call among the European users communities.

6

TASK 8.2 Knowledge transfer from EU to Russia on access policy and governancefor RIs (M1-M18)

❖ Workshop on the European Charter of Access and best practices of governance of RIs – POSTPONED TO 2022

Objectives for the Workshop:▪ Analysis of the opportunities and challenges while providing access to the Russian RIs for EU scientists;▪ Dissemination of Russian and EU RIs;▪ Exchanging of best practices concerning access policies and governance of RIs;▪ Keeping the event in face-to-face modality.

(open to Megascience projects)

Next steps:▪ Organize a Virtual symposium on EU and Russian RIs in Fall 2021 (in addition) => dissemination and networking;▪ Organize the „Workshop on the European Charter of Access and best practices of governance of RIs” as face-to-face

event as early as possible in 2022 (D 8.2 postponed to 2022).

7

TASK 8.3 TNA models for Russian RIs (M12-M48)

❖ Create tailored models for the Transnational Access to Russian RIs (task just started)

Objectives:▪ Collect best practices on access modes from EU RIs;▪ Develop appropriate access policies and regulations;▪ Set up the adequate user support;▪ Set up WP8 Scientific Review Panel and proposals selection regulations;▪ Combine the needs and access features of the different scientific communities around LIST-11 RIs;▪ Engage funding to grant appropriate access conditions for all the different user communities.

Next steps:▪ Develop the first set of tailored TNA Models for Russian RIs (MS40 „First Models of access to Russian RIs“ – due

in M24 – January 2022);▪ Test these models during the first CREMLINplus centralized call (task 8.4 to start in M24 - January 2022).

8

TASK 8.4 Case studies: Transnational access to Russian RIs (M24-M48)

Task to be started in 2022

Next steps:▪ Preparation work for the launch of the first CREMLINplus TNA Call – development of relative regulations, set up

of the Wp8 Scientific Review Panel, selection procedure and all access related instructions;▪ Launch the first CREMLINplus Centralized call for TNA dedicated to European researchers in early 2022;▪ Disseminate the call through appropriate information channels.

9

TASK 8.5 Helpdesk and promotion of TNA to Russian RIs (M1-M48)

❖ Helpdesk for EU scientists for access to Russian RIs (ongoing)

Achievements:▪ The centralized helpdesk for transnational access (TNA) to Russian RIs has been set up – at the website of the

Russian National Contact Point (NCP) (http://h2020-infra.misis.ru/en/helpdesk);Milestone 39 “NCP webpage active” – achieved in M12 – January 2021

▪ Develop LIST-11 INFORMATION SHEETS: brief presentation sheets per each of the LIST-11 RIs containing informationabout the organization and its main tools and services;

▪ Develop a central point of information to disseminate the future TNA initiatives; Information about LIST-11 RIs’,future events and training occasions;

Next steps:▪ Development of a specific LIST-11 electronic catalogue destined to users in view of the CREMLINplus TNA call;▪ Finalization of the Helpdesk NCP page;▪ Helpdesk services will start operation in view of the CREMLINplus TNA call (MS41 “Helpdesk start operating” - due in

M28 -July 2022)

Management Plans (DMPs);▪ Common platform for exchanging information on data analysis (Analysis pipelines and their tools; Use and

Integration of AI and ML);▪ Evaluating common tools to seamlessly exchange data between RIs in Russia and Europe.

Next steps:▪ Landscaping data access, analysis and policies at the partner RI’s;

Analysis of the relevant Big Data Infrastructure in Russia and Europe and their data access regulation and policies; For Europe, focus on the FAIR H2020 Project, but also at ESFRI clusters;

▪ Contributing to the organisation of the Workshop on access;Preparing the program including experts from Russia and Europe (on data analysis, data handling and access, dataPolices/FAIR data and DMP’s);Finalizing deliverable D8.2 (with results from the workshop, a gap analysis on goals which could be achieved incommon, provide a plan for working on mitigating the gaps).
