On December 11 we had a Block Captains meeting where Deputy Parnell Roy was the guest speaker from the Crime Prevention Unit. He offered many tips to keep safe at any time of the year. Auto theft – do not leave valuables in your car. Even during lunch periods thieves may be watching if you put laptops or other items in your car or trunk. Put them in and immediately get in your car, first locking your door then starting it and buckling up. In your garage – do not open the garage door instead get in your car, lock the doors, start the car, buckle up, then open the garage door. And reverse when entering, close the garage door, then stop the car, open the car door and unbuckle. At a filling station – take the keys and lock your door while pumping gas. When shopping any time of year – the same applies. Store your packages, get in car, lock doors, starting the car and buckle up. During the season there were reports of decorations stolen and cars (especially on the street) being “egged”. Remember to call the Sheriff’s office for any incident no matter how small. This is the only way our Deputies know what is going on in our community. Following is the incident report for November: Incident Report November 2007 Incident Offense Total 911 Hang Up 1 Accident/Minor 1 Alarm Local 12 Alarm/Rep.Site 1 Alarm/Sil/Pan/HU 1 Animal Humane 1 Assault 1 Burglary/Motor Vehicle 5 Check Park 24 Contract Check 391 Credit Card Abuse 1 Criminal Mischief 1 Disturbance/Loud Noise 1 Disturbance/Other 4 Domestic/Prevent 1 In Progress 1 Information Call 1 Meet the Citizen 5 MUD Building Check 28 Open Door/Window 1 Prop Found/Lost 1 Road Rage Incident 1 Telephone Harass 1 Theft/Other 3 Traffic Stop 33 Vehicle Suspicious 5 Vehicle Stolen 1 Neighborhood Recreational Facilities Corner By Rick Anderson “Well, 2007 has already passed us and it is the start of another year here at Wortham. I hope all of you had a wonderful and blessed holiday season and enjoyed your family. We are looking forward to a great year and we have planned on some renovations to be done at the pool again this off season. We will be having the entire pool re-plastered with new tile and “safety-grip” coping installed. This will include once again upgrading the pool safety markers/equipment to be in compliance with the current codes. We are also replacing the tile at the outdoor shower as well. This renovation is part of a planned repair/replacement schedule that we have set up with our pool company to ensure that this pool lasts for many years to come and we have budgeted for this work to be done this year for the last couple of years. We are also planning on purchasing the remainder of the new pool furniture, which we started last year. We feel this new furniture not only looks much better and is more durable, but is much more comfortable as well. This purchase was planned for to be done in consecutive years to take advantage of special pricing, but also to ensure that we would be able to get the same style and colors. The Recreational Facilities Committee will continue to look at ways to upgrade our (Continued on page 3)
