Flowers The sanctuary flowers are given today to the glory of God.

The King’s Brass Tim Zimmerman, director

As stewards of God’s resources, we try not to print an excess of bulletins. We invite you to bring this bulletin with you when you return for the evening service.

WelcomeTo Our Guests,We especially welcome you today! More information about our church is available on our website at firstpresaugusta.org. You can also visit our welcome desk in the Welcome Center, located directly behind the sanctuary.

Spiritual CareIf you would like to speak to someone about what it means to know Jesus Christ or you have any spiritual need or question, please use one of the prayer cards in the pew rack to contact one of our pastors. Our church elders are also available to speak with you. An elder and his wife will be standing next to the pastor following the service to talk or pray with you.

Children’s Check-inWe are committed to the highest level of protection possible for the children placed in our care on Sundays and at all church events. For this reason, we require parents of newborns through fifth grade children to check in their children before they go to the nursery, Sunday School, Catechism, Children’s Church or any other children’s activity. Kiosks are available in the Narthex and in the Children’s Lobby. The process is quick and easy, and volunteers are available to assist you.

Children’s WorshipWe offer a specially designed program for children in pre-K through fourth grade during the morning services. Leaders will escort children from the sanctuary to their classrooms during the hymn of preparation. Parents are welcome to accompany them to observe where to pick them up after the service. Children in pre-K through second grade remain in their classrooms until they are picked up by a parent.

Nursery Nurseries are provided for infants and toddlers during the worship services and Sunday School. We provide a Mother/Infant Room (room 160) located in the Ebenezer Building behind the sanctuary, and the Geneva Room is designated as a cry room for parents with fussy children. Both rooms are equipped with live video feed of the worship services. Ushers are available to direct you.

Additional Seating Please see ushers for additional overflow seating.

We are very glad to have you worshiping our gracious God with us today.

The Morning Services

The Meditation—Arise, My Soul, Arise .............................................. arr. Dan Forrest

Luke: Following the LeaderThe Prelude—Lauda Anima ...............................................................Samuel Metzger

†The Call to Worship ............................................................................ from Psalm 100Shout for joy to the Lord, all the earth. Worship the Lord with gladness; come before him with joyful songs.

Know that the Lord is God. It is he who made us, and we are his; we are his people, the sheep of his pasture.

Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name.

For the Lord is good and his love endures forever; his faithfulness continues through all generations.

The Lord be with you.And with your spirit.Let us worship God!

Arise, my soul, arise, shake off thy guilty fearsThe bleeding Sacrifice in my behalf appearsBefore the throne my surety stands, before the throne my surety stands. My name is written on his hands, my name is written on his hands

My God is reconciled; his pardoning voice I hearHe owns me for his child, I can no longer fearWith confidence I now draw nigh, with confidence I now draw nighAnd “Father, Abba, Father,” cry.

“Father,” cry. Arise, my soul, arise! And “Father, Abba, Father,” cry.Arise, my soul, arise.

§The Personal Confession of Sin

† Indicates the congregation standing. § Please kneel if able to do so.

Gracious Heavenly Father, we are sinners in your sight; you have judged us so and if we deny it, we make you a liar. Yet in Christ you are reconciled to your rebellious servants.

Shamefully, we have experienced your amazing grace toward us, but we have not loved you with our whole hearts, nor our neighbors as ourselves.

We confess that we often honor your Son with our lips when our hearts are far from you. Forgive us for our hypocrisy and formality in religion. Forgive our neglect of your Word, your direction, your priorities, and your day. Forgive us for tolerating sin in the knowledge that grace abounds. The worship that you do not despise comes from a broken spirit and contrite heart before you. Therefore, we plead for you to create in us clean hearts and put new and right spirits within us, that we may bring glory to your name. Through Christ we pray, Amen.

†The Pastoral Prayer and The Lord’s PrayerOur Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever. Amen.

The Assurance of Pardoning Grace .......................................................1 John 4:9-10This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.

Though we have not faith to seek him, Christ himself will draw us nearDeep, abiding rays of mercy cast their light on lonely fear.Cry no more, ye poor and weary. Our redeeming Lord is here.

Offering

Thy mercy, my God, is the theme of my song, The joy of my heart, and the boast of my tongue; Thy free grace alone, from the first to the last, Hath won my affections, and bound my soul fast.

Without thy sweet mercy I could not live here; Sin would reduce me to utter despair; But, through thy free goodness, my spirits revive, And he that first made me still keeps me alive.

Thy mercy is more than a match for my heart, Which wonders to feel its own hardness depart; Dissolved by thy goodness, I fall to the ground, And weep to the praise of the mercy I’ve found.

Great Father of mercies, thy goodness I own, And the covenant love of thy crucified Son; All praise to the Spirit, whose whisper divine Seals mercy, and pardon, and righteousness mine. All praise to the Spirit, whose whisper divine Seals mercy, and pardon, and righteousness mine.

The Prayer of Great Thanksgiving

Great is thy faithfulness, O God my Father,There is no shadow of turning with thee;Thou changest not, thy compassions, they fail notAs thou hast been thou forever wilt be. Great is thy faithfulness! Great is thy faithfulness!Morning by morning new mercies I see;All I have needed thy hand hath provided—Great is thy faithfulness, Lord, unto me!

Summer and winter, and springtime and harvest,Sun, moon and stars in their courses above,Join with all nature in manifold witnessTo thy great faithfulness, mercy and love.

Pardon for sin and a peace that endureth,Thine own dear presence to cheer and to guide;Strength for today and bright hope for tomorrow,Blessings all mine, with ten thousand beside!

Upon a life I have not lived, Upon a death I did not die, Another’s life; another’s death, I stake my whole eternity.

Not on the tears which I have shed, Not on the sorrows I have known, Another’s tears; another’s griefs, On these I rest, on these alone.

O Jesus, Son of God, I build on what thy cross has done for me; There both my death and life I read, my guilt, and pardon there I see.

Lord, I believe; O deal with me, As one who has thy Word believed! I take the gift, Lord, look on me, As one who has thy gift received.
