Today is our beloved pastor’s final Sunday with us. Dr. Robertson will preach in both the morning and evening services.

During the Sunday School hour today, there will be a presentation in the sanctuary highlighting God’s faithfulness to First Presbyterian through the ministry of Pastor Robertson. Children in first grade and older will attend with their parents.

Following the evening service, there will be a reception in St. Andrew’s Hall for the Robertson family.

August 6, 2017

Flowers The sanctuary flowers are given today by the Session with gratitude to God for

the gospel-centered leadership of George and Jackie Robertson from 2005-2017. “The Lord has done great things for us, and we are filled with joy.”

Psalm 126:3

WelcomeTo Our Guests,We especially welcome you today! More information about our church is available on our website at firstpresaugusta.org. You can also visit our welcome desk in the Welcome Center, located directly behind the sanctuary.

Spiritual CareIf you would like to speak to someone about what it means to know Jesus Christ or you have any spiritual need or question, please use one of the prayer cards in the pew rack to contact one of our pastors. Our church elders are also available to speak with you. An Elder and his wife will be standing next to the pastor following the service to talk or pray with you.

Children’s Check-inWe are committed to the highest level of protection possible for the children placed in our care on Sundays and at all church events. For this reason, we require parents of newborns through fifth grade children to check in their children before they go to the nursery, Sunday School, Catechism, Children’s Church or any other children’s activity. Kiosks are available in the Narthex and in the Children’s Lobby. The process is quick and easy, and volunteers are available to assist you.

Children’s WorshipWe offer a specially designed program for children in pre-K through fourth grade during the morning services. Leaders will escort children from the sanctuary to their classrooms during the hymn of preparation. Parents are welcome to accompany them to observe where to pick them up after the service. Children in pre-K through second grade remain in their classrooms until they are picked up by a parent.

Nursery Nurseries are provided for infants and toddlers during the worship services and Sunday School. We provide a Mother/Infant Room (room 160) located in the Ebenezer Building behind the sanctuary, and the Geneva Room is designated as a cry room for parents with fussy children. Both rooms are equipped with live video feed of the worship services. Ushers are available to direct you.

Additional Seating Please see Ushers for additional overflow seating.

As stewards of God’s resources, we try not to print an excess of bulletins. We invite you to bring this bulletin with you when you return for the evening service.

The Prelude—Great Is Thy Faithfulness ............................................. arr. Dan Marvin

†The Call to Worship ......................................................................... from Ephesians 2

For through him we have access to the Father by one Spirit.

You are no longer foreigners and aliens,

But fellow citizens with God’s people and members of God’s household

The Lord be with you.And with your spirit.Let us worship God!

When I consider how my light is spentEre half my days in this dark world and wide,And that one Talent which is death to hideLodged with me useless, though my soul more bentTo serve therewith my Maker, and presentMy true account, lest he returning chide;“Doth God exact day-labour, light denied?”I fondly ask. But Patience, to preventThat murmur, soon replies, “God doth not needEither man’s work or his own gifts; who bestBear his mild yoke, they serve him best. His stateIs kingly; thousands at his bidding speed,And post o’er land and ocean without rest:They also serve who only stand and wait.”

§The Personal Confession of Sin

Q. What is your only comfort in life and in death?

A. That I am not my own, but belong—body and soul, in life and in death—to my faithful Savior Jesus Christ. He has fully paid for all my sins with his precious blood, and has set me free from the tyranny of the devil. He also watches over me in such a way that not a hair can fall from my head without the will of my Father in heaven: in fact, all things must work together for my salvation. Because I belong to him, Christ, by his Holy Spirit, assures me of eternal life and makes me wholeheartedly willing and ready from now on to live for him.

†The Pastoral Prayer and The Lord’s PrayerOur Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever. Amen.

The Assurance of Pardoning Grace .............................................. Colossians 1:21-23Once you were alienated from God and were enemies in your minds because of your evil behavior. But now he has reconciled you by Christ’s physical body through death to present you holy in his sight, without blemish and free from accusation if you continue in your faith, established and firm, not moved from the hope held out in the gospel. This is the gospel that you heard and that has been proclaimed to every creature under heaven.

Almighty God, merciful Father, every time we rebel against your just rule in ourlives we enslave ourselves to the tyranny of guilt and sin. We exchange freedom forbondage; health for sickness of soul. We are left miserable. Forgive us, we pray.We have not lived out the new reality of life in Christ. We have not understood the power of the gospel that brings forgiveness and a new reality. We pray that youenlighten our minds, transform our hearts, strengthen our wills so that the powerof Christ’s resurrection will make us new people, enslaved to nothing but the glorious freedom of Christ. Amen.

**The Offering (Please take a moment to sign the attendance register.)

*‡The PeaceThe peace of the Lord be with you always.

And also with you.

Combined Choirs

The church’s one foundation is Jesus Christ, her Lord; She is his new creation by water and the Word. From heaven he came and sought her to be his holy bride; With his own blood he bought her, and for her life he died.

Elect from every nation, yet one o’er all the earth; Her charter of salvation: one Lord, one faith, one birth. One holy Name she blesses, partakes one holy food,And to one hope she presses, with every grace endued.

Mid toil and tribulation, and tumult of her war,She waits the consummation of peace forevermore,Till with the vision glorious her longing eyes are blest,And the great church victorious shall be the church at rest.

(Congregation stand and join the choir in singing)

Yet she on earth hath union with God the Three in One,And mystic sweet communion with those whose rest is won;O happy ones and holy! Lord, give us grace that weLike them, the meek and lowly, on high may swell with thee! Amen!
