Growing as Disciples of Jesus Christ Through Worship, Learning, Fellowship and Outreach The Messenger August 2015 OF TRINITY ANGLICAN CHURCH THE ALPHA COURSE Is God Calling You to Reach Forth Your Hands With An Invitation? This past Easter Season, we spent six weeks as a congregation exploring the theme of evangelism through the lens of Reaching Forth Our Hands In Love. We began by exploring the reason why we reach forth our hands, that God sent His Son, Jesus, to rescue a perishing world. We live surrounded by those who are seeking life and meaning in places they will never find it. We further suggested that we need to know Gods story of salvation, from Creation to Fall to Redemption to Restoration, and our own unique personality, how God has equipped to us to reach forth our hands in ways that resonate deeply with who we are. To that end, we explored six styles of evangelism: direct, intellectual, serving, interpersonal, invitational, and testimonial. As unique persons, one or more of these styles come naturally to us. The key, then, is to intention- ally use our handsto reach forth with the love of Christ. Early in the series, though, we also spoke of the role of community in evangelism. We suggested that the com- munity itself, as a loving family, is an attractive offering to a world in need, and we noted that it is as all the dif- ferent styles of hands are reaching forth that we are able, together as a team, to reach people for Jesus. As we concluded the series, we noted that sometimes the most effective thing you can do is invite someone to come experience the community of the Church, where the many different gifts working together can tell the story of Gods love in a powerful way. The Alpha Course is a wonderful way to do that! On an Alpha Course, we have lots of dif- ferent hands in action. We have serving hands that offer meals and hospitality. We have direct and intellectual hands delivering talks about the basic beliefs of Christianity. We have interpersonal hands building relationships in discussion groups after the talks. And we need testimonial and invitational hands reaching out to invite people into the Alpha Course community. I want to challenge you to pray now about who you know that could benefit from the opportunity to hear about Jesus at the Alpha Course. It could be someone who has never met Jesus. It could be someone raised in the Church but not currently active in their faith. It could be someone in the fellowship of the Church who is hungry for something more. Who do you know? Who is God putting on your heart? I want to further challenge you to reach forth an inviting hand to ask them to join you in coming to the Course. Alpha will meet on Tuesday nights starting at 6:00 p.m. for six weeks, beginning on September 1 and conclud- ing on October 6. THE ALPHA COURSE Is God Calling You to Reach Forth Your Hands With An Invitation?

This past Easter Season, we spent six weeks as a congregation exploring the theme of evangelism through the lens of Reaching Forth Our Hands In Love. We began by exploring the reason why we reach forth our hands, that God sent His Son, Jesus, to rescue a perishing world. We live surrounded by those who are seeking life and meaning in places they will never find it. We further suggested that we need to know God’s story of salvation, from Creation to Fall to Redemption to Restoration, and our own unique personality, how God has equipped to us to reach forth our hands in ways that resonate deeply with who we are. To that end, we explored six styles of evangelism: direct, intellectual, serving, interpersonal, invitational, and testimonial. As unique persons, one or more of these styles come naturally to us. The key, then, is to intention-ally use our “hands” to reach forth with the love of Christ. Early in the series, though, we also spoke of the role of community in evangelism. We suggested that the com-munity itself, as a loving family, is an attractive offering to a world in need, and we noted that it is as all the dif-ferent styles of hands are reaching forth that we are able, together as a team, to reach people for Jesus. As we concluded the series, we noted that sometimes the most effective thing you can do is invite someone to come experience the community of the Church, where the many different gifts working together can tell the story of God’s love in a powerful way.

The Alpha Course is a wonderful way to do that! On an Alpha Course, we have lots of dif-ferent hands in action.

SUNDAY SCHOOL TEACHER

Our launch day for Sunday School (September 13th) is just around the corner, and as always we are look-ing for more people to step into the important role of Sunday School teacher. Many, however, hesitate to do so for a variety of reasons. I will offer a few of the top reasons to be a Sunday School teacher. You don’t have to be an expert or experienced teach-er to make a big impact. You just have to care and love the kids. That makes the biggest difference. You don’t have to be a theologian with all the an-swers. All you have to do is stick to the lessons that lay out everything you need to know. What if the kids ask questions that you can’t answer? Point them to Fr. Karl!! You don’t have to devote a bunch of time to be a Sun-day school teacher who makes a difference in kids’ lives. You could teach every third Sunday. And your prep work should take no more than 30 minutes. You don’t have to go it alone. You will be part of a team. Tracey and Kevin Ray (our superintendents) provide great support. And you will always have an-other teacher partnering with you in the classroom. We have a great group of young disciples at Trinity. Our children are truly wonderful. They will bless you as much as you bless them. You can help lay a biblical foundation that lasts a lifetime. Blessings, Fr. Joe +
