“No Sanctuary: Big Business and Family Detention”

Join us on Monday, October 10, 2016 at 7pm in the Fellowship Hall

The Archdale UMW will sponsor a program and discussion on “No Sanctuary: Big Business and Family Detention”. The purpose is to raise awareness of private prisons funded by DHS and ICE to house thousands of immigrants at a cost of $140-$300 per person per day at Family Detention Centers in the U.S. Our tax dollars are paying for this. While in these prisons, immigrants are locked in cells behind razor wired fenced areas, subjected to common correctional practices, being denied medical attention, sexual abuse, multiple cell counts each day, and some require small children to wear prison scrubs. UMW members from eight local churches have been invited and all church members are welcomed.

Future meetings for our GLOW (God's Light on the World) Youth Conference are listed below. All meetings start at 7:00pm. If you are willing to help, we would love to have you

join our meetings. This conference is for all denominations and will be held at Adaumont Farm (i.e. Kyle Petty's old place on Finch Farm Rd.) on Friday evening, December 2nd and Saturday, December 3rd. Our goal is to host approximately 550 youth for music, worship and fun. If you are unable to help but would like to give a donation, we would greatly appreciate that as well. Results of our Fill the Bus school supply drive are in: 2785 pencils, 257 packs of paper, 1240 composition books, 335 boxes of crayons...and MORE! In total, we collected and distributed 6895 items at an estimated value of $9,750.17! This value includes 120 filled back packs. WOW!

Some activities are better done alone, like brushing your teeth or playing solitaire. Others are better and more satisfying when you work with others. Stephen Ministry is one of those get-it-done-together ministries. Stephen Ministers meet regularly with another person to provide care. They also meet with other Stephen Ministers to support and encourage one another. Stephen Leaders provide training and supervision. When Stephen Leaders and Stephen Ministers work together, God accomplishes won-derful things! Is God calling you to get to-gether with this team?
