Olympic Games 2016Rio de Janeiro Candidate City

After the successful organization of the 2007Pan-American Games, the city now has moreexperience and expertise to face this evengreater challenge. Some of the justifications forthe candidature of the city were as follows:

• Olympic values as a pillar of education andsocial development in a country like Brazil,with a predominately young population;

• Reinforce the image of the Olympic Games,which have been fulfilling an important role inthe planning and development of all the citiesthat host the games;

• The impact of the Games on Rio would beimmense. Bringing the Games to LatinAmerica for the first time, with 400 millioninhabitants, signifies launching Olympic valuesin a continent that is young and full ofenthusiasm;

• Adding value to the Olympic symbol thanks tothe Pan-American Games, which continues togain importance for the success of the bid forthe Olympic Games. In this Brazil’s capacity isinsuperable. Mega-events such as Carnivaland other major festivals are innovative, andBrazil’s experience in presentation, diversityand inclusion is invaluable.

Imagine, the whole city will be transformed intoan Olympic arena to celebrate sport and theBrazilian way of life.

LEISUREAnd to end with, we mustn’t forget Rio’s mostobvious attributes: our beaches, our parks andour lagoon. The city is investing in infrastructurefor services along the beaches, by building newkiosks, which apart from blending in with thelandscape, with their design in glass, offer a largevariety of good cuisine, plus the comforts oftoilets, showers and lockers.

Rio is one of the world’s greenest cities, withTijuca Forest, the largest urban forest in theworld, within its borders, and numerous parks,such as Flamengo Park, the Botanical Gardens,Parque Lage, the Rodrigo de Freitas Lagoon andsurrounds, and many others, all with a servicesinfrastructure for the comfort and enjoyment ofvisitors.

Enjoy the diversity that comes together in the“Marvelous City”.
