WORLD HEALTH STUDENTS ALLIANCE

November 17th 2014, Prague - The International Federation of Medical Students Associations(IFMSA), the International Association of Dental Students’ (IADS) and the InternationalPharmaceutical Students’ Federation (IPSF) are proud to announce signing of the World HealthStudents’ Alliance (WHSA) implementation document.The WHSA is a coalition of international health student-run organizations aiming tostrengthen interdisciplinary healthcare-related advocacy; to advance global health; and todevelop, improve and implement health policies together with multisectorial stakeholders. TheAlliance has a reach-out capacity of over 1.8 million health students in more than 100 countriesworldwide.“ We hope that through this united effort, the knowledge and competence of healthcarestudents worldwide will be acknowledge for the advancement of global health.” - AgostinhoSousa, IFMSA PresidentSince 1941, November 17th is recognized as the International Students’ Day, commemoratingthe day students and professors from Charles University in Prague were killed without a legaltrial. This day highlights the role of students as agents of change and advocates of sustainableprogress. For the founding members of the WHSA, this day symbolizes the importance ofpromoting the participation and empowerment of young people and students as keystakeholders in health development. The WHSA hence provides platform for health students topromote greater youth participation."We strongly believe that students must be involved in the delivery and quality of healthcarealongside other professional health and governmental organizations." - Petra Horáková, IADSPresident

Modern health care is highly specialised discipline which calls for synergic cooperation ofvarious healthcare professionalists together in order to improve health of patients and thus ofpopulations around the world. Hence, the founding members of the WHSA are confident theAlliance will serve this purpose as a tool of effective and collaborative work to answer this needfor the best interests of the patients.
