How much food do I need?

• Like this food processor a normal stomach is built to digest all foods eaten or dumped in….

(unless bad & thrown out by the stomach)

Page 8: World Food Day

Let’s check the Human Stomach

• The stomach of an adult is about 10 inches (25 centimeters) long & can easily expand to hold as much as l quart (0.9 liter) of food.

• It normally expands to hold about 1 litre (or litter) of food & can hold as much as 1.5 liters.

• The stomach can expand to hold up to 4 liters of food, more than 50 times its empty volume.

How much food do I need?

• Honestly, stuffing oneself to the limit is not very safe nor healthy.

• Don't abuse your stomach because you will need it for quite a long time.

Thought for Food… While experts are figuring out the exact cause of soaring food prices:-

• rising fuel costs? lower agricultural production?• weather shocks, more meat consumption?• shifts to bio-fuel crops?

Experts know for certain that High Food Prices:-• threaten to increase malnutrition, • is a cause of death for over 3.5 million children a year.

What you & me MUST realize:-

Food prices are expected to stay high through 2015• Wheat prices are up 120%• Rice prices have risen 75%• Poor families spend up to 80% of their budget only on food

Thought for Food…

The nearly billion malnourished people in OUR world could be lifted out of hunger with less than a quarter of the food wasted globally.

The hunger of 1.5 Billion people could be alleviated by eradicating:-• Fruits-Veg. & Dairy food wasted by Retailers, food services & at OUR homes.• Crops such as wheat, maize & soy to produce the wasted meat & dairy foods.

Food waste costs every household in the UK between £250 & £400 a year Producing & Distributing the 6.7m tonnes of edible food that goes uneaten & into waste in the UK also accounts for 18m tonnes of CO2.

The production of wasted food squanders resources & the irrigation water equivalent to domestic water needs of 9 Billion people.
