Gruising in the Sea Baltic The Baltic is a fascinating area, and the cities on its shores are among the most beautiful and historic in the world. Our Baltic cruises are becoming increasingly popular, and this year we are offering more cruises than ever before, so you can be sure of a starting date that suits you. Your holiday starts at your local railway station, as our prices include travel by train from any station in the UK to Southampton, where you will join your ship, Once you are at sea you will call at a number of exciting destinations, depending on the particular cruise. For example, you might visit Kiristiansand, in the extreme south of Norway, a town with beaches, beautiful scenery and the Setesdal Vintage Railway. For an extra charge, you will have time for a three-hour ride on the train, pulled by a steam engine that is over'100 years old. Another port where you may call is Gothenburg, in the south of Sweden. lts modern opera house in the harbour was designed to look like a ship, and is a very popular venue. Although our visit will be too brief to attend a performance, you will have time to see the building and the city. Stockholm is another place you'll enjoy visiting. Much of Sweden's capital is on islands, and a third of the city consists of water. Copenhagen, the capital of Denmark, is famous for its statue of the Little Mermaid, a character in a children's story by the Danish writer Hans Christian Andersen. This is only a short distance from where you leave the ship. But there is plenty more to see in the city. Like Copenhagen, Helsinki, the Finnish capital, is small enough to explore the historical centre on foot, and they're both ideal cities for shopping - the Scandinavian countries are famous for their designl For many of our passengers, the best part of a cruise is a visit to St Petersburg. The city dates from 1703 and for two hundred years it was the Russian capital. All our cruises include the city, and you will have two full days in port here, giving you plenty of time to admire the beautiful palaces, churches and other buildings. lf you'd like a guided tour, there are plenty available - on foot, by car or by boat along the city's rivers and canals - although unfortunately we no longer organise tours ourselves. Among the many other cities that you can visit on our Baltic cruises are Tallinn, Riga and Oslo. For more details visit our website.
