WORD WALL

ANALYZE: Break it down into parts, Tell about the parts.

INFER: Give a possible explanation for what you are observing. Prediction,Conclusion, or Interpretation

WORD WALL

Summarize: Tell the main idea. Tell the beginning, middle, and end.

Evaluate: Tell the good and the bad. Judge it.

WORD WALL• WRITE THE FOLLOWING ON WORD

WALL VOCABULARY SHEET

Predict: Hypothesize, give an explanation based on observed facts.

Support: Back up the information, Prove,Provide evidence.

• Compare: Tell all the ways they are the same

• Contrast: Tell all the ways they are different

• HEART: A HOLLOW,MUSCULAR ORGAN THAT PUMPS BLOOD THROUGHOUT THE BODY. (ABOUT THE SIZE OF YOUR FIST)

• ARTERY: A BLOOD VESSEL THAT TAKES BLOOD AWAY FROM THE HEART

• Blood: Made up of four components- plasma, red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets

• Circulatory System: Transports materials to and from the cells. It is composed of the heart, blood vessels, and blood

WORD WALL

Arteriosclerosis: occurs when the blood vessels that carry oxygen and nutrients from your heart to the rest of your body (arteries) become thick and stiff — sometimes restricting blood flow to your organs and tissues

WORD WALL

Superior Vena Cava: Largest Vein in the body. Receives blood from the body.

Pulmonary Fibrosis: a disease marked by scarring in the lungs. The alveoli (air sacs) are affected by thickening, stiffness, and scarring of the tissue.

WORD WALLAorta: Largest Artery in the body

Cholesterol: Cholesterol is a waxy, fat-like substance that's found in all cells of the body. Your body needs some cholesterol to make hormones, vitamin D, and substances that help you digest foods

WORD WALLCystic Fibrosis: The lungs naturally produce a layer of mucus to protect them. In CF the layer of mucus is thicker than usual. The thick, sticky mucus in the lungs obstructs airways and allows bacterial infection and inflammation to occur

WORD WALLFeedback 1/23/15

Negative feedback is a reaction that causes a decrease in function. It occurs in response to some kind of stimulus. Often it causes the output of a system to be lessened; so, the feedback tends to stabilize the system.

WORD WALLPositive feedback enhances the original stimulus. An example of a positive feedback mechanism is blood clotting. Once a vessel is damaged, platelets start to cling to the injured site and release chemicals that attract more platelets. The platelets continue to pile up and release chemicals until a clot is formed.

Autotroph: an organism that makes its own food through photosynthesis.

Heterotroph: obtains energy through eating other organisms.

MITOSIS: The process in which the material from the cell nucleus divides during cell division.

MEIOSIS: Cell division that produces sex cells (eggs or sperm)

Diffusion: Process where molecules move from an area of high concentration to low concentration.

DNA: Genetic material that carries the information about an organism that is passed from parent to offspring.

ALLELES: ONE PAIR OF GENES THAT DETERMINE A SPECIFIC TRAIT. THERE ARE DOMINANT AND RECESSIVE ALLELES.

RNA: Ribonucleic Acid- Translate the genetic message of DNA into protein

WORD WALL

a locus (plural loci) is the specific location of a gene or DNA sequence or position on a chromosome.

GENES: THE FACTORS THAT CONTROL TRAITS.

HEREDITY: THE PASSING OF TRAITS FROM PARENTS TO OFFSPRING.

•Homozygous: An organism that has two identical alleles for a trait.

•Heterozygous: An organism that has two different alleles for a trait.

WORD WALL

WRITE THE FOLLOWING ON THE WORD WALL VOCABULARY SHEET.

•Dominant Allele: an allele whose trait always shows up in the organism.

•Recessive Allele: an allele whose trait is masked in the presence of a dominant allele.
