Just recently I have been alerted to parents stopping cars on the streets near our school to let children out. Please use our main parking lot. We have numerous spaces that would be an alternative to driving through our supervised drop off lane. The parking spaces on the side of our building are reserved for staff. Please do not use these spaces during arrival or dismissal. On several occasions parents have interfered with our buses and day care vans that must use that entrance. I will be enlisting the staff and the Grayslake Police to enforce safety during those times. Spring is right around the corner, but students still go out for recess and enjoy playing in the snow. In order to play on the playground, the children must wear all “5 points”. That means snow pants, boots, winter coat, hat, gloves/ mittens. The blacktop provides an area for students to play who are not dressed for the snow or wet conditions. We will be outside for recess unless the wind chill is 0 degrees or below. Please plan accordingly. On Thursday of this week we focused on fitness and making healthy choices. Our Jump Rope for Heart event raised much excitement and money for the American Heart Association! Students jumped rope with classmates in a variety of ways while keeping others in mind. We are proud of our students working to make a difference for a great cause. A special thanks to Mr. Mulvaney and many parent volunteers who helped facilitate healthy snacks during the event. Thanks to all of you for donating to support our efforts. Our Wellness Night was a huge success. We had many Woodview families and staff members come and participate. A healthy mind and body leads to much success. The event included yoga and stress reduction techniques, the use of fitness equipment and healthy alternatives to sugary drinks. CALLI�G ALL BAKERS!
The Kindergarten, 1st & 2nd grade Music Show will be held next Thursday, March
14th. A bake sale to help raise funds for Mr. Smith and the music department will be
held in conjunction with the music show. We are asking for donations of individually
wrapped baked goods for the sale.
Items can be dropped off at the school on Wednesday, 3/13 or prior to the show on
Thursday, 3/14.
Thank you in advance for your donations!
Bring the family out for a night of delicious Italian food at That Pasta Place—641 Barron Blvd., and
help Ms. Heinz raise money for the Art Department.
This Dine & Share runs for 3 days—March 19th-21st between 4:00-10:00 p.m.

NEWS FROM THE PTO
Dear Woodview Friends,
Together with our parent community, our PTO Board has had a tremendously satisfying and
successful 2012-2013 school year, having hosted several family events and fundraisers that
enabled us to purchase five SMART Boards for Woodview classrooms, a sound system for the Music department, many library books, as well as to provide funding for Exploration Day,
field trips, and several fine arts assemblies, plus many, many classroom supplies and materials for our teachers and kids. Together, we are a community of parents that gets
things done and makes a difference in our school!
Now, the Woodview PTO is looking ahead to next year, and we want to include you. Several PTO Board positions will be open, and we'd love to fill them soon, to ensure a smooth
transition and to be able to continue to provide these "extras" for our families, teachers, and children. The following positions are open:

Tickets are $2 for pre-paid and $3 at the door, Kindergarten-Adult (pre-k
children are free).

While dodgeball is played in the gym, pizza, beverages, and snacks will be sold in

Planning is underway for Exploration Day 2013! It's a day like no other for Woodview students, filled with exploring, learning, discovering and having fun. The students will choose from over 20 hands-on presentations and move about the school experiencing the interactive and interesting topics.
HELP WANTED!
Exploration Day is simply not possible without the help of volunteers. It takes more than 100 volunteers to make this wonderful day the success that it always is. Though we already have many exciting presentations lined up, we are in need of several more. Do you have an interest in something unique? Do you have a hobby or career that you think our students would be interested in learning more about? Or, maybe you are just able to help out and present one of the suggested ideas below. These are suggestions only - if you have a different idea, please let us know – we are open to any new ideas!
Science Experiments Multicultural Arts Arts & Crafts Smoothies/Afterschool Snacks Tumbling Camping Skills Kite Making Jewelry Making Origami Carpentry Magic Technology ***Additionally, we are looking for help with scheduling the students for their Exploration Day sessions. This is a job that can be done on your computer from home. We will provide the program which does require Microsoft Access. We have easy to follow instructions that accompany the program. This is a very important component of Exploration Day, so please contact me if you would like to learn more! Exploration Day 2013 is scheduled for Friday, May 10th. The day begins and ends with a special ceremony, and is broken up into five, 40-minute sessions that consist of approximately 15-25 students each. If you would be willing to present at Exploration Day, please return this form to school as soon as possible. We will get in touch with you to assist you with planning. This is very exciting..drum roll once again…
The 2nd place winner is..Mrs. Brobst’s 2nd grade class! They collected 426 Box Tops. Well done!
The 1st place winner is a returning champion..1st place goes to the dynamic duo of Mrs. Palo & Mrs.
Feldman’s 4th grade class! They collected 492 Box tops. Congratulations to both homerooms! Thank
you to all of the students, parents and staff of Woodview for bringing in a total of 3,886 Box Tops for
this contest that ran mid January-March 1st!
The next contest is underway! It will end on Friday, April 26th. First and 2nd place prizes will be

Flu Season and School
To help keep flu outbreaks to a minimum, we are asking that all students and families follow these simple steps:
1. PLEASE keep sick children home from school until they are fever-free for 24 hours without medication, such as
Tylenol or Ibuprofen. (fever = 99.5 degrees or above) and their cough is gone!
2. Teach your children to COVER THEIR COUGHS and wash hands often. Hand sanitizers are also effective.
3. The CDC recommends that all school-age children receive flu vaccinations. Seasonal flu vaccines are available
now!
4. Prepare in advance. Have alternative childcare available if you cannot stay home or pick up your sick child at
school. SICK students cannot remain at school!
5. PLEASE report your child’s absence to school and tell us the symptoms. (Just saying “sick” doesn’t help us track
illnesses)
6. Make sure we have current phone numbers to reach you and your emergency contacts.
