May 2020 Woodsette The Woods Community Newsletter The From the Board of Directors We hope everyone is continuing to do well during the statewide shelter-in-place due to the COVID-19 virus. Please check our reader boards at the community en- trances and thewoodscommunity.com for updates on official Woods meetings and facility re-openings. We would like to provide you a rules and safety update in this issue. Regarding safety, the Jacksonville Sheriffs Office has issued the following tickets over the last several months to both residents and non-residents driving in The Woods: Ten speeding tickets for speeds up to 40 mph, along with 10 written warnings for speeding. Please re- member the speed limit throughout our community is 25 mph. Three tickets for failing to stop for stop signs were issued along with seven written warnings. Two citations were issued for driving on a suspended license with one including a criminal summons (non-resident). Four cita- tions were issued for license and seat belt violations along with two written warnings for license violations. One citation was issued for driving with an expired regis- tration tag. Additionally, due to continued instances of unleashed dogs in our common areas, we obtained the services of a Jacksonville Sheriffs officer to patrol our common ar- eas on foot to issue citations as needed for unleashed dogs. We will review the need to continue this service at future board meetings. In the area of rules, please remember that changes to the exterior of your home, including sheds, mailboxes, and any other structures, require approval from the Ar- chitectural Review Committee (ARC). We are a deed re- stricted community with various limitations on the height of structures, etc. Additionally, the ARC checks for re- quired utility setbacks. Submitting your planned work to the ARC and following their guidance will save a lot of time, frustration, and expense, as opposed to making unapproved changes. Please remember the ARC helps to maintain the pleasant look and feel of our community which is a big factor in why many of us chose to live in The Woods. Thank you to the ARC for all of their hard work. The board directed Giddens Security to suspend ticket- ing and towing for overnight street parking during the shelter-in-place order. Please note that vehicles making it unsafe or impossible to travel our roads, or that create other hazards, are still being towed. The normal ticket- ing and towing process will resume when the shelter-in- place ends. The net posts for our tennis courts have been replaced. Thank you to the Recreation Committee for their work on getting bids and making this happen. The audit of The Woods Community Association, Inc.'s financial documents for 2019 is complete. The CPA firm found our recordkeeping to be in good order. Thank you to our finance committee and Marsh Landing Manage- ment for their professionalism in this important area. Hello, WOW Friends - The spread of the Coronavirus and attempts to keep people safe have resulted in social distancing and a recommendation that we self-quarantine in our homes. Because of the serious-ness of this pandemic and the vulnerability of some of our members, our last two meetings of the year are cancelled. The April Jewelry Exchange meeting (hosted by Lin Gedert and Madeline Osiecki) will be re-scheduled for September 17, 2020, and will be our first meeting of the new year.

Here are the scheduled meetings for next year. I am asking for volunteer hostesses for the four months that are open. If you and a friend are willing to take a month for your program, please let me know. You don't even have to commit to what your program will be at this time. Email me at [email protected] or call at 992-3848.

Here are the upcoming Thursday meeting programs for the 2020-2021 Year:

Stay safe, everyone. This too will pass, and we'll be back together again in September!!! Jeannie

Women of the Woods

We would like to congratulate Joe and Jennifer Mantione at 2456 Winged Elm Dr East as our Yard of the Month for May 2020. See their picture on the next page. (I’m not sure what kind of gardening implement Joe is holding in his hand.)

Joe and Jennifer both hail from Buffalo, New York. They have lived in the Woods for 3 years, and Joe jumped right into the Streets and Drains Committee. He is a constant source of information and is willing to help all.

Since we are still practicing safe distancing, please drive by and HONK to let them know that you support them and appreciate their yard.

On a final note, ACE Hardware in Harbor Place, continues to promote The Woods by providing our winners' gift certificates. The Yard of the Month committee would like to thank the employees and staff at Ace for continuing to provide us with their services.

The Spring 2020 Community Yard Sale has been canceled. Be on the lookout for information about the Fall 2020 Community Yard Sale, coming soon!

Just A Reminder

MAY - Fruit trees should receive their second fertilization of the year, as well as the rest of the landscape. Cut back gardenias once they finish blooming. Insects are prevalent. Check St. Augustine grass for chinch bug damage in sunny areas. Plants root easily from cuttings May-September. Make sure beds are heavily mulched in case we have a dry summer. Remove spent vegetable plants to reduce insect and dis-ease problems. The Woods Yard of the Month committee extends its thanks to the Ribault Garden Club of Jacksonville for providing the monthly gardening information that appears in The Woodsette each month from their Horticulture Calendar.

Gardening

We hope everyone is making it through these challenging times in good health and good spir-its. We want to share a reminder that if a member of your household has tested positive for the COVID-19 (coronavirus), please be considerate of your friends and neighbors, and follow the rec-ommendations of the Center for Disease Control (CDC) for quarantine and social distancing. Thank you.

Important Announcements and Reminders Watering: Two-day-a-week watering is currently in effect. Odd-numbered homes may water only on

Wednesdays and Saturdays. Even-numbered homes water only on Thursdays and Sundays. There is to be NO watering between the hours of 10:00am and 4:00pm on any day.

Recycling is collected every other Wednesday. Recycling receptacles are to be placed at the curb after 5:00 PM every other Tuesday afternoon. Schedules may be obtained in The Woods office.

Lawn Debris may be placed at the curb after 5:00 PM on Wednesday afternoon for pickup on Thursday. Be sure not to block drains and gutters.

Garbage pickup has moved to Fridays. Garbage receptacles are to be placed at the curb after 5:00 PM on Thursday afternoons for pickup on Friday.

Cul De Sacs (common areas): Use by residents for trash, lawn debris or parking is expressly prohib-ited. These are common areas. We ask that everyone keep this in mind. Please note that vehicles parked on any common area grass will be towed immediately once discovered by Woods’ security personnel.

Do not put lawn clippings, or any other debris, into any of the Woods’ ponds.

In order to assist the guards with more efficient entries, residents are encouraged to use the Gate Sentry app on their smart phones. Call the management Office if you have any questions.

For non-vehicular entry: all persons entering the community on foot, bicycle, etc., must check in with the Gate guards and be prepared to show photo ID as proof of residency in the community.

Make Yourself Visible: If you like to ride bikes, walk, or jog late in the day or at night, be sure to wear some light-colored (preferably reflective) clothing.

Jacksonville Municipal Code requires that pets must be on a leash or tether when being walked by their owners. Both the law and common courtesy require that pet owners immediately clean up any mess made by their pets.

Animals not on a leash: whether accompanied by the owner or not, should be reported immediately to the City of Jacksonville Animal Control at 630-2489.

The Board has continued the JSO patrols throughout the community. That means STOP at all stop signs and honor the 25 mph speed limit.

REMINDER - Keep your garage doors closed when not in use and make sure your vehicles are locked at all times.

DO NOT FEED THE GEESE THAT INHABIT THE PONDS AND LAWNS AROUND THE NEIGHBORHOOD.
