Our Mission Woodfin Elementary belongs to the people

and children of the Woodfin Community. Our

entire mission is focused on giving our children

unique advantages because they are here and

part of something important. We believe

students learn in different ways and should be

provided with appropriate instructional

approaches to meet their individual needs.

Serving students from kindergarten

through fourth grade, Woodfin’s curriculum

includes Common Core and Essential standards

through the Fundations, literacy program, and

Investigations math program.

Extracurriculars Students enjoy extracurricular activities

such as the Master Gardeners Program, Boys On

Track, Girls Are Active Confident and Encouraging,

Readers Odyssey, Music Club, and Odyssey of the

Mind.

Our Vision “Preparing all students to realize their potential in a rapidly changing, diverse, global society.” Specifically, Woodfin students enjoy:

• Small Class Sizes

• iPads in every child’s hands

• A State-of-the-Art Media Center Renovation to be complete prior to the 2016-2017 school year.

• Free Summer Camp Opportunities

• Instruction from Highly Qualified teachers

Woodfin is a small town nestled in the Blue

Ridge Mountains. It borders the French Broad

River and still remains a quaint small town

environment. Woodfin Elementary emulates

the same quaint small town charm. We have a

student population of approximately 155+ and

a faculty and staff of 40-50 members. Our

small environment nurtures the needs of our

diverse population with a feeling of mutual

respect and positive growth.

Curriculum Overview

Our staff uses a balanced literacy

approach and the Fundations program to build a

strong foundation for literacy. Likewise, Math

Investigations help students to develop

mathematical thinking skills to support their

understanding of essential math topics.

Students enjoy art, music, performing arts,

media center, computer lab, and physical

education classes weekly. Students learn 21st

Century skills through the integration of

technology, including a computer lab, iPads for all

students, interactive white boards in the

classroom, wi-fi, and global connections with

various tools. Woodfiin is a Title 1 school and

receives federal funds to assist in closing the

achievement gap. Title 1 funds provide us with

reading interventionists and a curriculum coach.
