Club News

From The Desk of Patrick Lucas

Dear Members,

I would like to thank each and every member for making 2015 a great year so far here at Woodcrest and we look forward to a fantastic fall season!

As our membership and usage continues to grow, we are continually improving and upgrading the facility. Improvements at The Grill at the Turn and the pool area have gone a long way in providing faster service coupled with a broader variety of food and beverage options for your enjoyment and convenience. Due to the success and overwhelmingly positive feedback regarding the pool, we areplanning on expanding this area in the off-season to accommodate the increase in demand. Our goal is to add more shade options, additional playing areas and more room for lounge chairs. Weather permitting, the pool will also be open weekends in September after Labor Day. Please check your email for our weekly update, each week for hours.

We are also in the process of upgrading the Flynn Ballroom. The final wall partitions have been removed, a new full-service bar has been added and a fresh coat of paint will follow. This will dramatically increase our banquet capacity and functionality of the room. Stop by and see the improvements the next time you’re at the Club, and please consider Woodcrest for your next event. Our Event Sales Manager, Ida Fraser will be more than happy to show you around the club and assist you in making your next event nothing less than spectacular.

Thanks to George Jordan, our Food and Beverage Director, and Mike Ince, our Executive Chef, the food and beverage operation has experienced vast improvements in a short period of time. George and Mike will continue working to provide our Members and guests first class service and quality. We encourage you to eat at the Club and talk with George about ideas you may have. The fall is a perfect time to dine at Bar 1929 and don’t forget to enjoy cocktails by our fire pits on the patio outside the Bar.

Bill Torlucci, our Director of Golf and Assistant Golf Professional Jay Curry are just wrapping up a very successful Kid’s Camp here at the Club. The feedback from the camp has been very positive with lots of interest already for next year. Great job to Bill, Jay, Christina and the rest of the staff! On behalf of the entire Woodcrest Country Club staff, I thank you for being a part of the growing Woodcrest family and if there is anything we can do, just let us know.

Best Regards,

Patrick Lucas

Pro Shop UPDATEThe 2015 Juniors Camp at Woodcrest was very successful! The participation increased immensely from last years camp. We had campers attend for days at a time, a week and several campers who attended multiple weeks! For golf, we covered a different part of the game everyday such as irons, putting, chipping, driving, rules of golf and course etiquette. We held individual and team contests that allowed the juniors to compete against their peers. This years camp was designed to teach the campers more than just the game of golf as they learned about team building, course rules and etiquette of the game. Each camper learned at their own appropriate skill level. Our goal was to impact the children and the way they learned to play by reviewing all aspects of the game while keeping it fun! The campers also enjoyed tennis instruction and free time at the pool. The highlight of day always seemed to be the water ice and ice cream on those hot summer days! Overall, the 2015 Juniors Camp was a success. We received many compliments from parents and grandparents and we look forward to seeing all of our 2015 campers return next summer! Enjoy the school year!

Congratulations to the Woodcrest Juniors Club Champ!

Joel Hark is the overall winner with rounds of 88 & 78

Joel is also the winner in the 13 to 15 age group.

Pat Donaldson is the winner of the 16 to 18 age group with scores of 87 & 81.

Congratulations and thank you to all juniors that participated this year.

Socially Speaking...From the Desk of George Jordan

Director of Food & Beverage

What a hot but beautiful summer! As we head into the end of summer, plans are underway for the many fall and winter activities and events. To our Social Members: The fun doesn’t end when the pool closes, you and your family can still enjoy all of the dining and social events until the end of the calendar year.

The Ladies Member Guest Tournament, “A Day at Downton Abbey” was held on Tuesday July 28th. The ladies were all decked out in their finest hats and were very pleased with the décor and great food! Wednesday August 5th, brought us Men’s Member Guest. We started off with a BBQ on the deck of Bar 1929 and finished off the night with a great cocktail hour and amazing lobster tails and carving station. Here’s how one of our members described the event:

“Just wanted to send a quick note to thank you for a great member guest day. My 3 clients had an awesome day. The golf course was in perfect condition, the food and beverage was really excellent, and the staff very friendly and welcoming. I think it was a tremendous value, priced perfectly for our membership. This will be an event that gets sold out in the future once members hear the about the great day that it was. your entire staff should be proud for pulling off a great event! Thanks!”

Our premier summer event, Lobster Night was sold out. Our members and guests feasted on one & three quarter pound lobsters served piping hot with carved prime rib, wonderful salads and baked potato bar. The night began with a fabulous cocktail hour featuring wonderful passed hors d’oeuvres. Thank you to all the members that have made our summer events so successful.

All the best,

George

Tennis CornerIt’s been a great summer for tennis at Woodcrest! The courts have been bustling with

activity from drills to private lessons. We were also excited to welcome yoga on the fairways and tai chi classes! The 4 week series were a huge hit and a great way to switch up

the normal golf workout routine. Here is a testimonial from one of our amazing students:

“Yoga on the Greens was the perfect excuse to get out of the studio and breathe in the fresh air. The class over looked the golf course with the calming sounds of the pond’s water fountain as our background. CHHRC’s instructor, Shannon Harty, spoke to all

levels through her vinyasa flow. She even got a few of us out of our comfort zones and into head stands! She truly focused on guiding us through the flow

and poses to build strengthen, flexibility and balance. I left the class feeling refreshed and ready to take on the work week!”

Thank you to all students and instructors! Don’t forget the fall is a great time to hit the courts and try something new!
