We would love to see you!

Here’s what’s going on this month in our Sunday school classes. What sounds interesting to you?

Last week, on Wednesday morning, Lori and I, along with my son Adam, his wife Katie, and our two grandsons visited the ARK in Kentucky. It’s pretty amazing to see just how large the ark ac-

tually was and what life may have been like for Noah and his family with all those ani-mals. There’s a lot of information there on creation and the flood as well. From there, we returned to Cincinnati for AC - not air conditioning, but Annual Conference (although the air conditioning was much appreciated as the first couple days of Conference were very warm). All in all, I think it was a good conference, although those who want to pick at and argue over things will always find a reason to do so. As I was thinking about the ARK and the AC, this is what struck me. One of the passages that we often think about in relationship to the ark is Jesus’ words in Matthew 24:38-39: (NIV84)

As it was in the days of Noah, so it will be at the coming of the Son of Man. For In the days before the flood, people were eating and drinking, marrying and

giving in marriage, up to the day Noah entered the ark; and they knew nothing about what would happen until the flood came and took them

all away. That is how it will be at the coming of the Son of Man. People quote this verse and talk about the evil of both Noah’s day and ours. However Jesus does not refer to the evil of Noah’s day. He refers to “eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage,” unaware of what is about to happen. In other words, life going on in the normal pattern, business as usual. One thing is certain in the church of the Brethren, our leadership has come to the realization that we can-not continue on the path of the last 30+ years. They have seen that this can only lead to the destruction of our denomination. So we are no longer doing business as usual. We are working very hard to put the conflict and decline of the past years behind and move on to something productive. Enter the Compelling Vision Process. It is a hopeful process that began this year at Annual Conference, and will continue in local regions of our Districts throughout this year, attempting to gain input at the grass roots level. It will be the main focus of next year’s Annual Conference, with the hope that shortly after that, we will have a vision around which we can unite in serving our Lord and Savior. It may be overstating this process to refer to it as an ark, but it truly may be the only hope for our denomination. While I am aware of the tremendous division this process must overcome, I am hopeful that somehow, most of us can put our difference aside and unite in a God-given vision for our church. Let’s be in prayer for this process and, as we have opportunity in the year ahead, let’s be active

participants, sharing what God has laid on our hearts. Blessings in Christ Pastor David
