Wood finishing refers to the process of embellishing and/or protecting the surface of a wooden

material.

DIFFERENT FINISHES

WaxWaxes confer matting effects and wear resistance to paints. Polyethyelene waxes are incorporated into inks in the form of dispersions to decrease friction.

ShellacShellac provides a glossy finish, but lacks durability. This means that you will need to apply a new coat more often than you would with other finishes.

PolyurethanePolyurethane is available in satin and high-gloss formulas. The durability of polyurethane makes it ideal for finishing high traffic areas like floors, tables and desktops.

Tung OilTung oil is a penetrating oil varnish that is derived from the seed of the tung tree. In addition to varnish, tung oil is available in pure and polymerized forms.

Linseed OilLinseed oil is a traditional penetrating finish material that leaves a glossy finish. You can mix linseed oil with a variety of other elements to create a specific kind of character for your finish.

Nitrocellulose Lacquer

is a somewhat imprecise term for a clear or coloured varnish that dries by solvent evaporation and often a curing process as well that produces a hard, durable finish, in any sheen level from ultra matte to high gloss and that can be further polished as required.

Alkyds varnish Alkyds are used in paints and in moulds for casting. They are the dominant resin or "binder" in most commercial "oil-based" coatings.
