● Used this to argue their place in politics● Suffrage: the right to vote in political

elections● Began in 1848 at Seneca Falls● New organizations formed in 20th Century:

● Also, teamed up with abolitionists

Seneca Falls Convention

● July 19-20, 1848○ FIRST EVER Women’s Rights Convention held in the U.S.○ Wesleyan Chapel in Seneca Falls, NY.○ Organized by Lucretia Mott and Elizabeth Cady Stanton○ Declaration of Sentiments

Getting the Vote!

● May 21, 1919○ James R. Mann proposed to the House to

approve the 19TH Amendment ● June 4,1919

○ Senate passed the Amendment○ Sent to states for ratification

● BY March, 1920 THIRTY-FIVE States Ratified It○ tENNESSEE TIPS THE BALANCE

● 19th Amendment ratified (AUGUST 1920) granting voting rights to women○ About 70 years, after Seneca Falls Convention

● November 2, 1920○ 8 Million Women!

● The following 60 years○ Other twelve states ratified

the Amendment○ Mississippi was the last to

ratify

Women Finally Get to Vote

● Boys divide yourselves into two teams (3 boys in each)● Each boy will have to complete 1 obstacle (Each team must complete 3

obstacles)○ Changing a babies diaper○ Tie/Braiding a woman's hair○ Sewing a button

● Once each is complete they will have to present their work to the girls● After the girls have seen all the work, they will vote for the best team

and the best “lady of the house”(best single competitor)
