BHP works closely and collaboratively with the local communities where they

operate to ensure they deliver valuable programs and activities that will leave a

lasting positive impact. BHP recognises the importance art and culture plays in

those communities and is a central focus of their arts partnerships. They work

to provide creative outlets for young people and Indigenous artists throughout

Australia and believe in the value art brings in creating connected communities,

Department of Communities

Twitter: @HousingWA

At the Department of Communities, the concept of People, Place and Home,

describes the essence of why the Department exists, and why its work is

important to everyone in Western Australia.

The Department works to advance opportunities, community participation and

the quality of life of the people it supports, with a clear focus on inclusion, building

resilience and meeting individual needs.

Priority areas for the Department’s Women’s Interests portfolio are the

promotion of women in leadership and the support of women’s economic

independence.

In practice, the Department partners with government and non-government

organisations to improve outcomes for women through scholarship programs

and at events such as CEDA’s Women in Leadership Series and the Skills West

Expo.

In addition, it delivers workshops on financial literacy and workforce

reengagement, provides support for the Techtrails school incursion program and

offers grants to community organisations to deliver women’s initiatives.

The Women’s Report Card is produced by the department every three years,

cataloguing Western Australia’s progress in key gender related issues.

WA Department of Communities has been a CEDA member since 2017.

Edith Cowan University

Twitter: @ECU

ECU is a young, progressive university with an enviable reputation for teaching

excellence. In 2019, and for the fourth year in a row, ECU received the top

undergraduate teaching quality ranking of all public universities in Australia. This

makes ECU one of just two public universities – and the only one in WA – to

have achieved such a consistently high endorsement for teaching quality.

In 2018, ECU was one of 11 universities and one of only 15 organisations

nationally to achieve the internationally-recognised award of Bronze Institutional

Accreditation in the first pilot of the Athena SWAN Charter in Australia. The

University has also been awarded the Workplace Gender Equality Agency

Citation as an Employer of Choice for Gender Equality for the last three years.

In 2019, ECU has been ranked sixth in the world for Gender Equality in the new

Times Higher Education (THE) University Impact Rankings. These rankings show

how the global higher education sector is contributing to the achievement of the

United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). ECU’s Vice-Chancellor

is a Workplace Gender Equality Agency (WGEA) Gender Pay Equity

Ambassador, a CEO for Gender Equity (WA), and a national Male Champion of

Change in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).

ECU is a university that values diversity and is striving to be a beacon for gender

equality. This is why it is so meaningful that ECU is the only university in Australia

named after a woman; Edith Dircksey Cowan, the first woman elected to an

Australian Parliament, who believed education was the key to removing barriers

and whose life was dedicated to championing social reform. ECU continues to

strive for gender equality as an educator and an employer to deliver social and

economic benefits.

ECU has been a CEDA member since 1995.

International for CB&I, based in The Hague.

At Clough, Peter has led the transition of the business from a specialised LNG

contractor to a more diversified EPC delivery company for the energy, mining,

and infrastructure markets across Australia and overseas.

He has also been instrumental in championing diversity and inclusivity in the

about CEDA

CEDA is an independent, not-for-profit membership organisation. CEDA identifies

policy issues that matter for Australia’s future and pursue solutions that deliver

better economic, social and environmental outcomes for Australia. CEDA's cross-

sector membership of 770 spans every state and territory and includes Australia's

leading businesses, community organisations, government departments and

academic institutions.

Membership

Organisations join CEDA because CEDA delivers exposure to high level thought

leadership, timely briefings on issues of economic importance, access to

networking and brand reach through sponsorship and hosting opportunities. In

addition to high profile public events, CEDA also delivers regular member only

events for employees of member organisations and exclusive Trustee only

boardroom briefings for senior executives from member organisations. These

provide a unique opportunity for peer-to-peer knowledge exchange and for

speakers and attendees to talk candidly on issues.

Research and policy

CEDA’s only agenda is to pursue good public policy to progress Australia’s

economic and social development. Since 1960 CEDA has produced more than

3000 publications, research reports and articles highlighting emerging issues and

directions in a diverse range of policy areas. Research in 2019 will focus on

Australia’s long-term budget position, the effects of temporary migration, a survey

of Australian businesses on their approach to economic development, and new

approaches to addressing entrenched disadvantage.
