CraftTry your hand a woodcraft and whittle your own wand.

Design your own magical creature.

For Leaders...This can be as simple as cutting and sticking pictures of different animals together, which is perfect for younger groups. Older groups might enjoy the challenge of drawing their animal from scratch or even making it/moulding it from clay. Alternatively, draw them out in teams with each person drawing a different part, i.e. head, body, wings, legs.

Make your own broomstick.

Learn about different constellations in Astronomy and stitch your favourite constellation onto black card, learning how to sew. Alternatively make your constellation from mini marshmallows and cocktail sticks.

Paint rocks and make your own Magical Runes.

Try your hand at Transfiguration and turn something old into something new by up-cycling/recycling.

Here’s an idea! Why not upcycle an old piece of furniture or transform an old piece of clothing. Get creative...paint, stitch and snip your way to Transfiguration champion!

Learn to knit and knit an item for your house elf.

Create your own wax seal and write a howler to someone.

Make your own Owlery...make an owl or bird box for the garden. Alternatively make a paper birdhouse using our free resource.

Finger knit your own scarf to show your house colours.

Make your own Butterbeer cork necklace to ward off the Nargles.

What?It is believed that a necklace with a Butterbeer cork pendant will keep away Nargles. Nargles are known to infest Mistletoe so be sure to keep watch around Christmas time!

Paint or decorate a plant pot to grow your own herbs in ready for your herbology lessons.

Page 5: Wizarding Adventures - Pawprint Family

FoodTry your hand at potions and mix up your own mocktails.

Whip up your own batch of Butterbeer.

Learn about chocolate tempering and make your own chocolate frogs. Add in some popping candy for a truly tong-tingling experience!

Can you guess the jelly bean flavours when blindfolded?

Have a go at Herbology and identify plants and fungi that are safe to eat when out foraging. Remember: always get professional advice as some plants can be poisonous!

Handy Hint!Find yourself a professional forager who can help you look for edible plants and fungi near your home/in your local woodland.

Try growing and eating your own herbs.

Transfigure ingredients into something tasty.

Here’s an idea...Making egg whites or chickpea water into tasty meringue nests is just like magic and you could even mould some chocolate dragon eggs to sit a-top your nests once they’re cooked!

Make a meal using tomatoes, potatoes, chillies and aubergines.

Why?All of these ingredients are from the same family as the Mandrake plant. Though not poisonous they can make some flavour combinations to die for!

Find out how to read tea leaves in Divination. Have a go and while you’re at it try tasting some different types of tea!

Have a go at making your own sweet and candy creations. Set up your own fantasy sweet shop and give it a fantastical name too... why not use it as a fundraiser and run a tuck-shop?

Try making your own pumpkin pasties to enjoy on your very own train ride, just like the ones our favourite wizards are offered on their ride to school.

GamesPlay a game of ‘Giants, Wizards, Elves’.

How?Much like the game ‘Rock, Paper, Scissors’. In two teams, each must agree on their character- giant, wizard, elf. On the count of 3 both teams must turn to face each other and perform their actions: Giants - stand on tip toes, hands high in the air and make a menacing noise, Wizards - crouch slightly, waving hands out in front as though making a magic spell, Elves - crouch down with hands cupped behind their ears and make a high pitched giggling noise. Giants beat elves as they “squash” them. Elves beat wizards because they outsmart them. Wizards beat giants because they zap them with a spell. If both teams show the same character, no one wins. The winning team then run to capture as many people as possible to join their team.

Play a game of Quidditch either field or table. Quidditch is now a recognised sport; find your local team at www.quidditch.org

Capture the keys to unlock the Philosopher’s Stone (capture the flag).

Hunt unicorn blood in the forbidden forest.

For Leaders...This is a great starting point for a wide game of your choice. We like finding glow sticks in the dark as unicorn blood is shiny...

Hold your own treasure hunt using a magical map.

Our favourite Witches and Wizards are great at solving problems...have a puzzle night and solve different dilemmas.

Hunt the Horcrux. Either a treasure hunt with clues or a wide game like capture the flag...you decide!

Visit a maze like the one in the Tri-Wizard tournament.

What time is it Mr Dragon?

What?Played like ‘What time is it Mr Wolf’. The Dragon is guarding its eggs. Players step closer and closer trying to get close enough to steal the eggs and win!

Hold a Wizarding Quiz and test your knowledge.

Page 7: Wizarding Adventures - Pawprint Family

OtherTry Levitation and go indoor skydiving.

Fly like never before on a zip-line!

Write your own magical charms or spells.

Create an animation showing transfiguration.

Here’s an idea! You could try making a stop-motion animation using clay or try your hand at special effects morphing one object into another using computer software.

Learn how to look after owls by inviting a local Falconer to visit your unit and bring along some owls so you can get up close.

Try your hand at Care of Magical Creatures and learn how to look after your pets. Local pet stores often run free educational sessions.

Have a go at self-defence to boost your Defence Against the Dark Arts.

Study the stars in Astronomy. Find out some fun facts about the planets and the solar system.

Write your own Wizarding paper all about the activities you’ve been getting up to as part of your Wizarding Adventures. Maybe you want to make it digital with moving pictures?

For Leaders...This is a great activity to produce a newsletter for parents/carers to show them what you’ve been up to during the term/evening. Maybe you could even invite the editor of a local paper/magazine to visit?

Make your own Prophecies...write yourself a set of goals for the week month/year then look back on them to see if they came true.

Take it further: visit the Chained Library in Hereford which is just like the restricted section in our favourite magical school library.

Host your own Wizarding party for your fellow witches and wizards.

Make your own magic and come up with some Wizarding Adventures of your own!
