Unfortunatel)'i the advert:laement wa.a quite s mblguoua and appeared to be either a joke or a reckless "yeUow " smear attack on the Unlveraity. Many of the people In· eluded in the general categories l~ted In the ad were deeply otrended by the ad'a content. The POI?\'TER apologiz.ea for any affront , however unintended, to any­one who read the ad \·ertiatment.

A n explanation of aome or the terms used In the ad ma)· be in order. The fourth paragraph or the ad atatn, in part . that "We are fully awa~ or a hiatory or otrcriaea which have dominated the au baurlace of thla Univenlty."

The term "fully aware" wa.a conatrued to mean that the authors of the ad were prepared to bring formal charges backed by substan tial proof. Thia is not the cue at preaenL

The term "a history or. otren&ee which have dominated the subsurface • . . " Implied that &exua1 misconduct ia ram1mnt among·the lea~ers or the Univeraity community. In fact. the statement is not founded on one shred of hard fac t and thua conatitutes the moat ir reaponsible line in the ad,·er~isement.

The ad went on to imply that coeda were being "coerced" into aexu al invoh•ementa. The intention or the coercion statement wa, only to point out that a public educator might find that, In some case,, he could take advantage of the Influence and prestige of his poaition. No implica­tion wa.a intended that any educator ever did or necea· sarily would abuse hla influence or position.

The POINTER served only a.a a contact point for the group who would help anyone .,.,.ho aought It. Thia was the reason that the POINTER'S name appeared at the bottom of the ad.

In any event, the POI?,,'TER, more apeciflcally, the editor asaumea any and all reaponaibllity for anything with the paper's name attached to it. The advertieement wa.a made In good faith and with all aincerity. It wu In­tended · as an otl'er of help, not a.a a lweeplng charge against the moral climate of the Unive.nity. •
