THOMAS HAINES SolancoWinning his third consecutive PIAA

championship, Thomas Haines showed therewere still things he believed he could learn, areaswhere he could improve. He was quick to seethe irony o acing Boyertown reshman JordanWood in the championship fnal and quickerto see that Wood would not be writing historythis time out. Haines 7-2 championship victorymoved the Solanco junior one step closer toPa. state wrestling immortality. Should he win

his ourth title next year, he will become the12th wrestler in the 77-year history o the PIAAchampionships presuming Kennard-Dales

Chance Marsteller becomes the 11th 30 minutesbeore Haines to win our state titles. Bywinning his third state title he became the frstever rom Lancaster to do so, establishing him asLancasters all-time grappling king. And he didit with his trademark humility, telling a reporterthat winning this title, eels better, actually.

The terms were a little bit better. Last year, Ilost my head. The match (a rustrating tay pullwith Nazareths Aaron Bradley) got a little out o

control. It didnt make me look good. It didntmake the sport look good at all. I didnt want thatto happen again.

Wallace coached the Vikings to a 6-0league season and the L-L Section

Three championship. A phoenix-likeaccomplishment notable because in theprevious six seasons, Northern Lebanon(16-5 overall) won once in 36 sectionmatches and was 10-44 overall. A key tothe turnaround was the oseason transero the Blatt brothers sophomore Caleb and reshmanQuinn rom Tulpehocken, but that was icing on thecake. The oundation was already in place. We had a nice, young team, our reshmen and sixsophomores, who came up through our elementary

and junior high program, said Wallace. They work allyear round and (their success) wasnt a surprise to us.We knew, because o all the time and eort, they hada chance to be a (successul) team.

Butt and Powell rode herd on two of the best

boys basketball teams the L-L has seen in

years. Powells Red Tornado won 25 straight

and earned their league-leading 13th title.

Butts Indians won 23 straight and were

the lone L-L boys team to go undefeated

during the regular season while claiming the

programs rst Section Three title since 1983.

The most versatile player in the league and the lone returning

member of LNPs Fab Five from a year ago, the Division

I recruit and 1,000-point scorer helped the Red Tornado

reclaim the Section One title and repeat as L-L champions. A

big guy with a deft shooting touch from the perimeter as

his team-high 50 3-pointers attest the 6-6 Pinkard can play

forward, center or guard, and will battle beneath the boards forrebounds. He was a key gure for a team that won 25 straight, one shy of tying

    the program record.
