    IEEE Conference 20th-21st October

The 2011 IEEE Conference on Sustainable Utilization and Development in EngiNeering and Technology (2011 IEEE STUDENT) was a student conference

organized by IEEE PELS/IAS/IES Joint Chapter and IEEE Systems, Man & Cybernet-ics Chapter in cooperation with the Energy, Fuel and Power Technology Research Di-

vision, Faculty of Engineering, The University of Nottingham, Malaysia Campus. It served the purpose of providing students of higher learning institutions a channel to

present their own projects and be recognized for their professional and technical achievements by the industry and IEEE. This conference was not just a venue for

students to exchange ideas, but to communicate, network and learn from others. The conference also allowed for more collaboration among the IEEE Chapters.

The conference provided an international forum that brought together those actively involved in areas of interest to report on up-to-the-minute innovations and develop-

ments, to summarize the state-of-the-art, and to exchange ideas and advances in all aspects of sustainability and technology. Advances in engineering continually play an

increasing role in providing an enriching experience and thereby improving the qual-ity of our lives and the sustainability of our lifestyle. Papers related to this confer-

ence theme were especially solicited, including theories, methodologies, and emerg-ing applications such as recognition of activities of daily living.

    Research Themes:

    Multimedia Security and Signal Processing

    Photonics

    Health Care Science and Technology

    Christmas Party 16th December

The Graduate School hosted the annual Christmas

and End of Year Party on December 16th.

As always, there was Christmas food from different countries, music and much merriment. Students

and staff gathered in BA64 to celebrate the end of 2011 and enjoy a much needed break from studying.

Prof Graham Kendall, VP Research and Knowledge Transfer, delivered a welcome speech and thanked

the Graduate School for their hard work and hoped that students would continue to take advantage of

the opportunities available to them in the future.

    Graduate School Space

The Graduate School provides a valuable resource to postgraduate students at

UNMC. BA64 is a multi-purpose room that can be booked for delivering presen-tations, conducting research, quiet study or even socialising. The room has wifi,

comfortable chairs, desks and a computer with a projector. We have added a water cooler for greater convenience and the room is available to be booked at

any time – when not in use for training.

Over the course of the past semester, the Graduate School was used on a daily basis by students looking for a quiet place to study and to work on their research

    projects and presentations.

The Graduate School delivers the bulk of its training in BA64 and holds the ma-jority of its social events here to. As a result, this space has rapidly become the

hub for postgraduate activity at UNMC.

If you are interested in booking the room then please contact Deepa Kumari.
