The weather is not very favor- able for flying, so I guess we just sit inside and read our MPA newsletters, flying magazines and Sporty’ Pilot Shop catalogs and dream. Our meet- ing in Mt. Grove at the Los Dos Potrillos restau- rant will feature Mike Vaughn’s 5 minute safety seminar. This should be a good one as Mike is very familiar with what it takes for a safe and un- eventful fight. I was happy to see Mike Vaughn and Mike Pace step to the plate and volunteer to conduct our safety meetings for this and next month. Hopefully this has developed a trend and others will step forward to lead these very important sessions. If we can make this work, I believe it will be better than asking someone to make the presentations. As you could see from Clint’s show last month, his 5 minute presentation lasted about 45 minutes after all providing their experiences and understandings of the rules based upon what Clint had to say. This chapter is blessed with some very knowledgeable pilots and people interested in aviation and they can bring to the table a vast amount important material to make us better and safer pilots. By adding their own experiences to the subject matter at hand, we all go away from the meet- ing with something new. When we get into that situation when we run out of altitude, air speed and ideas all at the same time, just maybe, we can reach back into that grab bag of knowledge we gained from one of our presenters or someone adding their ideas during the presentation and get ourselves out of an unpleasant situation. We are getting to the end of our SAFE com- petition for the year. It ends March 31, and anyone interested in becom- ing a safer pilot should make every effort to complete the program be- fore that date. Remember the MPA has made this program less stringent than the FAA approved WINGS program because MPA pilots were dissatisfied with the FAA rules. Get that flight review completed to your instructors satisfaction, and with the safety seminars we have completed during our monthly meetings you should have your three knowledge credits completed. Get the paper- work to Ray and get ready for next year. Our new year for the Chapter Board of Directors is coming soon. In May we elect new officers for the year and we need to get new people involved in our Chapter officer posi- tions; so if you are interested, please let me know. I will be getting a committee together soon to present a slate of officers for next year. Re- member our meeting is Thursday at 6:00 pm at the Los Dos Portillos in Mt. Grove, the restaurant with the great Mexican food. See ya there!! Floyd

WINGS/SAFE February, 2015Have you been "up in the air" about

anything lately? I hope you have been in order to complete the SAFE/WINGS program.

Remember the windy/bad weather is coming so NOW is the time. Also remem-ber if the weather is beyond your personal limits stay on the ground.

The key phrase here is "your personal limits".

Remember the deadline is March 31, 2015. Be sure to notify me if you complete anything. This includes on-line seminars, in person seminars and SAFE or WINGS.

I only count the beans you send me.Try these true false questions/state-

ments.1. One procedure to use during ap-

proach during turbulent/gusty wind con-ditions is to add all of the gust factor to approach speed.

2. For aviation purposes, ceiling is defined as the height above the Earth's sur-face of the lowest layer of clouds reported as scattered, broken or thin.

Be careful. Check it out. Thanks, Ray

Floyd Deidiker opened our first meeting of 2015. Mike Vaughn of-fered the blessing and Mike Pace led us in the pledge of allegiance. Presi-dent Deidiker asked for a moment of silence in memory of the recent passing of Troy Whitte’s mother and Mike Vaughn’s mother. Twenty-one members were present, and one guest: Mike and Sharon Vaughn’s daughter Heather Rutenkroger.

The secretary’s minutes were approved following a motion by Norm Epperson and second by Mike Vaughn to accept as published. In Sue L'Hommedieu’s absence there was no treasurers report this month. Presi-dent Deidiker reported on member-ship in Tom White’s absence stating no change from last month.

There was no state meeting this month but Floyd opened a discussion about our 5-minute Seminars noting that there has been interest in this concept by other chapters. He also made the suggestion that we have volunteers take responsibility for the presentations. The suggestion met with approval and Mike Vaughn vol-unteered for our Feb. meeting. The presenter need only pick a subject, present about 5 minutes about that subject, then facilitate a discussion for the group. These discussions will allow us to share what we know and

learn from each other. We learned that Floyd has been

working with Jack Bowman on the development phase of a Master Plan for West Plains Airport. There was a discussion about small towns and cities needing the involvement of pi-lots and local MPA groups in support and guidance. President Deidiker reminded us of the importance of this work with our local airports.

Floyd introduced Eric and Kim Stouffer, MPA members who had been attending meetings at the Cuba chapter but will be joining us for meetings. Apparently they are web-savvy, so after some discussion Mike Vaughn moved to have our web site re-established. Mike Pace seconded and the motion passed. Eric and Kim have agreed to help us re-establish the web site for the chapter. Floyd will get a copy of the CD of the old site to Kim.

Pat Deidiker, our Hospitality chairperson, suggested either Thurs. Feb. 19 or Sat. Feb. 21st for our next meeting. A move was made by Pat Storm, seconded by Mike Vaughn and passed unanimously for our Feb. meeting to be held on Thurs. Feb. 19 at 6:00 pm. In keeping with the idea of moving our meetings around to better cover the area our chapter serves, Sharon Vaughn moved that

the Feb. meeting be held in Mountain Grove. The motion was seconded by Kim Snouffer, and passed. Mike Vaughn moved to leave the location of the meeting up to Pat to determine after looking at the options of Los Amigos or Los Dos Potrillos. Motion was seconded and passed.

Pat Storm reported for Ray Fine that there was no change to the WINGS/SAFE completions. Final deadline remains as March 31, 2015. Mike Pace informed us that the AOPA web site has training and informational sessions that are inter-esting and available via the internet.

Fly Outs will resume when the weather warms, according to Clint Allen.

Clint Allen presented an overview of “Wind and Flying” for our safety presentation. His discussion covered winds of all types: head winds, tail winds, cross winds, wind shear, and gusting winds. A lively discussion followed Clint’s summary, with many members sharing “wind” sto-ries and things learned.

The meeting was adjourned after a motion by Jack Bowman, seconded by Diana Pace and passed unani-mously.

Respectfully submitted:Patricia StormSecretary
