Your support ofthis event is greatly appreciated.

Jesus promised that the Holy Spirit would dwell within eachof us if we loved him and kept his Commandments. (Jn13:34-35) Stewardship is a manifestation of the indwelling ofthe Holy Spirit. We all have a responsibility to answer thecall to mission, to develop our God given gifts and to sharethem with our family, our parish and our community. Oneimportant answering of the call to mission and sharing one’sgifts is through our tithe. Tithing is an ancient form of worshipestablished before the Law of Moses by Abraham andMelchizedek. (Gen 14:18) Faithful Jews actually gave threetithes, an annual tithe, and annual Feast tithe, and a third-year tithe. These tithes would actually add up to 1/3 of theirincome, not 10%. But how we tithe is not actually asimportant as understanding that tithing is really a gratefulresponse to our generous God. We cannot outdo God’sgenerosity. It is good, though, that we be grateful for whatGod has given us. We must show that gratitude by usingour time, talent and treasure as a form of worship out oflove not obligation.

There are many benefits to tithing. The satisfaction fromgratefully sharing your blessings is tremendous. *When youtake a hard look at your spending and plan to make Godfirst in your budget you quickly begin to realize the differencebetween what you need and what you want. *You begin toeliminate the endless clutter of material wants from yourlife and start to more fully appreciate the many blessingsyou already have. *You realize commercialism works toconvince us we never have enough of the right things, eventhough God has already blessed you with all you need. *Youstop being “consumed by consumerism” and “possessedby your possessions” and begin to slow down and prioritizenot only how you spend your money but also how you spendyour time. *Once you stop trying to satisfy yourself withmaterial possessions and spending, you find enjoyment insimple pleasures - especially time to deepen yourrelationships with God, with loved ones and with yourcommunity. Ultimately, those who tithe feel the practicebrings more joy, more peace, more contentment and morebalance to their lives.
