Whenever the moon and stars are set, Whenever the wind is high, All night long in the dark and wet, A man goes riding by. Late in the night when the fires are
out, Why does he gallop and gallop about?
Whenever the trees are crying aloud, And ships are tossed at sea, By, on the highway, low and loud, By at the gallop goes he. By at the gallop he goes, and then By he comes back at the gallop again.

2. While reading this poem, what were you thinking? Have you ever been in a storm at night when the wind was howling? Describe how it made you feel?
3. Discover and read another “wind” poem such as “Who Has Seen the Wind” by Christina Rossetti, compare and contrast the similarities/differences.

1. Create your own windy night; complete four verses using descriptive detail and illustrate.
2. Develop a “he” poem. Create mental images using powerful word choice so we can picture the poem in our minds.
