Dear Parents,

It was pleasing to see so many parents and students in school this week. On Tuesday evening we held our Year 9 Options Evening which launches the options process. Students also had the opportunity to try new lessons in ‘taster’ sessions this week. This is a really good opportunity for students to see what they will be studying at GCSE and to clarify their choices.

I was delighted to see so many of our students being rewarded for their participation in the Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme this week. Students and their parents were invited to the Youth Achievement Awards Ceremony at the Magnet Sports Centre in Maidenhead. Windsor Girls’ was also well presented during the evening by Jessica Lee who compared the event and Isobel Walters, Aaliyah McCarthy and Livvy Beer who performed. The programme continues to go from strength to strength and this would not be possible without the contributions of the staff who support the girls with their training, online activities and with the weekend expeditions. We look forward to sharing the official photographs from the evening in the next few weeks.

We also celebrated success in rowing this week with Lucy Tomalin, Eve Lombardo and Daisy Horler winning gold medals at the South of England Indoor Rowing Championships. We hope to see this success translated to success on the water as the weather improves.

After half term we will begin to interview Year 11 students who have applied to the Sixth Form. I always enjoy seeing the girls individually to discuss their future plans and aspirations. We will be sharing appointment times with students before the end of term.

Windsor Homeless

Project

Cake Sale

On Wednesday 27 January, Year 10 students held their second cake sale in aid of the Windsor Homeless Project which aims to offer practical and emotional support and companionship to homeless and unsupported adults of Windsor, so that they shall feel cared for and be enabled to develop or re-discover a sense of self-worth and to preserve life. .

This fundraising endeavour was part of the students’ Citizenship community engagement initiative. Well done to all involved!

It’s been a busy start to 2016 with all age groups participating in activities and competitions run by The Windsor Sports College. As we start our countdown to the Olympic and Paralympic games in Rio, schools have taken up the opportunity to get involved in the fun and host their own disability afternoons.

So far Braywood, Clewer Green and Oakfield First School pupils have tried their hand at Boccia, New Kurling and Goalball. We are continuing this initiative right up till the summer games.

Five schools participated at our Bisi Badminton Festival at the Windsor Girls’ School, with pupils taking part in eight badminton-based activity stations which were led and managed by Windsor Girls’ School Year 9 Leaders who did an excellent job at coaching and demonstrating activities.

One of the main highlights this month was the Indoor Rowing Competition at The Windsor Boys’ School which hosted schools from Ascot, Maidenhead and Windsor. Performances from Dedworth Middle School ensured that both Boy’s and Girl’s squads will be joining The Windsor Boys’ School and Windsor Girls’ School squads at the Berkshire School Games in the summer.

This month has also been busy date for PE Coordinators and teachers attending CPD courses. Firstly we ran the Change4Life course which looked at extra-curricular clubs aimed at dis-engaged children at The Windsor Boys’ School and the following week our PLT’s met up to discuss school sport and PE before taking part in a netball and tag rugby CPD session.

Furthermore The Windsor Sports College will be running a First Aid Course on:

9 March 6.00 – 9.00 at The Windsor Boys’ School,
